Mirth Watch Thursday: I'm So Hoppy

In homage to Rita, our Mexican jumping bean, and this photo that I posted of her on Monday...
... I thought I'd post a hoppy video. And this one just happened to cross my path yesterday. This is a lot like how Rita looks when she's amped up about something. Luckily she doesn't get amped up too often!

That dog doesn't even need a trampoline! Neither does Rita, although it might be better for our hardwood floors (and her joints) if she had one. (Of course, she would be terrified if we ever put her on one!)

In Other News...
If by any chance you were thinking of purchasing a paperback copy of Rescue Me, Maybe, I wanted to let you know that the price is going up next week. Right now it's only $8.47 on Amazon, plus free shipping if you buy enough other stuff to hit $25. (I don't know why it's such an odd price. I marked it $9.95, but Amazon marked it down - which is cool, cuz I still get the same royalty.)

Here's why the price is going up - which will only be of interest to any of you folks who maybe plan to someday self-pub a book, so if you don't plan to do that, just skip on over this part. Anyway... the cheapest way for a self-pubber like myself to get a paperback book out is to use a POD (Print On Demand) service. I use CreateSpace, which is owned by Amazon. Publishing your book with them means it's available for sale on Amazon.com and Amazon in Europe.

If you want your book to be available in places beyond that (like Barnes & Noble, both online and - theoretically - in B&N stores, in libraries, or in small independent stores) you have to pay $25 for their "Expanded Distribution Channel." It costs more per unit of course to have your books sent to these other distributors, so you need to raise the price to cover the added costs.

So, next week I'll probably be upping the price to $11.95 or $12.95 (depends on what the costs are  - they obviously won't let me sell it for less than the total print + distribution cost). But then, after a while, Amazon will probably mark it down again. For instance, What the Dog Ate is listed at the $11.95 price I selected, but Amazon has it marked down to the odd price of $10.76.

Just thought I would let y'all know the price is going up - just in case!

And... in other mirthful news... TWO DAYS TO SEEING BETTY WHITE! I have my outfit picked out! (Go here and here if you don't know what I'm referring to.)

Happy Mirth Watch Thursday. Go and be mirthful.

  4. So exciting about meeting Betty White, you are going to have a blast! Interesting about the self pub. My husband has been throwing around the idea of doing an art type book. Seems like there is a lot to know. Finished the book last night. Awesome!

  8. I have wondered about that distribution thing. Most I hear from advise against it, but I just don't know, so I opted out for now. It is crazy how Amazon just randomly prices a book no matter what you set it at! Hope that goes well, let me know if you regret doing it or are glad you did.

  9. That video was great! Someday I might write a book, so I found that info about self-publishing very interesting. HAVE FUN at your dinner!! Are you familiar with ParkerPup, a golden retriever on Facebook? He is supposed to be there too....he does fundraisers for MAF, and he has a "cancer vest" with all kinds of names on it of those affected by cancer, canine and human. Anyway, my two dogs I lost to cancer, Moses and Shelby's names are on there. So look for ParkerPup! And say hi to Betty White! :)

  12. SO glad my dogs can't jump past my knees! :) Thanks for explaining the Amazon thing; I don't know whether I'm ambitious enough to try it, but if so, NOT being completely clueless will be helpful.

By the way, I'm on Chapter 5 (and I did that in one sitting, before Mr. Sandman brought me a dream, and I woke up at 5 a.m. with my reading glasses on). ;) I'll be sure to head over to Amazon as soon as I get finished!

  13. Okay - I am UBER excited about you seeing Betty White! PICTURES!!!

Our dogs used to love to jump on the trampoline. They'd jump up there on their own and compete for who got to stay. There was a safety net, so there was only entrance. Flash usually got up first and kept Patches from getting up. So much fun. :)
