Monday Mischief: Rita's a Howl-o-Weenie!

Rita is not a fan of Halloween. She thinks it's even worse than Fourth of July!

First of all, she hates the decorations people put up:
Skulls with googly eyes have no appeal for her!

Scary hands can grab little pups!
These folks had a VERY elaborate set up!

She also hates when folks come to the door (doorbell = INTRUDER ALERT! BATTLE STATIONS!) Luckily we live on a hill on a dead-end that is not super well lit, so no kids really come down our street. Phew. We hide with the lights off, and try to keep the barking to a minimum.

Also she's not a fan of everyone eating treats that she can't partake in. She hates the phrase, "No chocolate for dogs!" She thinks this is something the momma makes up just so she doesn't have to share her dessert.

Finally, she hates the costumes - on others and on herself!
My little witch
What about your pups? Will they help greet Trick or Treaters at the door? Or will you hide like us?

In Other Wee News...
I'm interviewed by Jodi on Heart Like a Dog on Monday, so stop by and check it out! She had some interesting questions!

Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  1. we absolutely hide like you. we turn off all the lights and go to the back of the house. BOL
yes, doorbell = intruder here too and bailey has the most piercing bark i've ever heard. it's more like a scream so best way to keep her quiet, is lights out.
    wags, bailey unleashed

  2. We don't get trick or treaters so nothing to worry about there. Mr. N likes visitors. It's just a little loud at first.

  3. He he! Cool post! Kayo's OK with most decorations but she's not a fan of statues. But there's a house in my neighborhood that has an unbelievable amount of decorations. A dog walked by the other day and went crazy barking at the Halloween gnomes, statues and moving decorations. It was pretty cute and his owner was just cracking up!

  4. We have to keep the curtains closed so we don't get any trick or treaters otherwise it becomes an excuse for a bark fest. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  5. Great post! Some of your neighbors really go all out! Living in the country, we just don't have trick or treaters. (All the country kids head to town - more houses = more treats) I miss it, but think it's just as well. Jeffie would give them the scare of the lives!

  6. Luckily, we live far enough in the sticks that we don't get trick or treaters, so I don't have to deal. Jack would scare them and they would scare Maggie...not a good combination.

  7. No trick or treaters for us.....thank goodness. The dogs would not be fans. Well, Roxy would.

  8. Indy was giving a faux tombstone what for the other day. However, she completely ignored the skeleton lying on the grass with the zombie flamingo perched next to it in the yard right next to it. She is nuts. We also hide, although I briefly pondered giving out candy this year. Then I came to my senses.

  9. No. We did our spooky walk last Saturday and that's about it. I do enjoy the kids ringing the doorbell as I can hear them too yell Sugar Sugar. I don't care for the big kids saying Boooo. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  10. Living smack in the middle of a closely packed subdivision, we do get trick-or-treaters, but we sit outside with the candy to prevent doorbell ringing. My guys would probably injure themselves responding to that many rings!

  11. Well, I love to bark at and greet the trick-or-treaters and Ma is the one who prefers to hide. BOL Though, she tries to hide me too because I get all spazzed out with the doorbell ringing sooooo much.
    Happy Monday.

  12. Sampson and Delilah would happily greet the children at the door, but with their size and exuberance we keep them behind a gate. Of course, Delilah would happily eat the candy as well, she doesn't listen to chocolate is not for dogs.

  13. Great pictures. We decorate, but living in the country don't have anyone knocking at our door!

  14. Awesome pictures! Looks like people in your area really go all out! For whatever reason, no one seems to trick or treat on our street. We prepared ourselves for trick-or-treaters the first year we moved into this house - put out a jack-o-lantern, armed ourselves with a ton of candy, and guess what... only ONE group all night. Decided we wouldn't bother with it from then on; and it's just as well, I guess, because it would be a HUGE barkfest with every ring of the doorbell. So now we turn off the light and hide out, just in case any kids do come through.
If we didn't have dogs, though, we would encourage trick-or-treaters! Hubs and I love Halloween! We would probably dress up to hand out candy :).

  15. I think it's probably lucky for Gizmo that our neighborhood doesn't get trick or treaters...The only ones I've had come by were drunk college kids looking for more beer

  16. I've never gotten into the spirit of the season. I'm like the Grinch who stole Halloween and my dogs would like for October to have only 30 days. It is the worst day in the year for them.

  17. Since some of those scary photos are from our neighborhood, I can attest to the fact that they don't bother Reggie at all. No worries here on his first Halloween. We'll hide from the T-or-T'ers. Mostly because last time we didn't hide, we ran out of candy at 200 of the little devils!

  18. We are right there with you... This is the most stressful day ever! We always try to put them in a quiet room and trade off one of us handing out candy and one of us calming the dogs. However, we just learned that they do trick-or-treating differently in Louisiana, and I think it might save us!! Apparently, you sit out on your front porch and hand out candy rather than kids ringing the doorbell. If you're not sitting there, they skip your house! Sounds like this might be the best tradition for the dogs!! We shall see! As for costumes, Emmett LOVES them because he gets way more attention and treats than usual :) The other two, not so much.

  19. We hide too. Luckily in our rural area we didn't get many trick or treaters anyway. It wasn't worth trying to corral the dogs and then listen for the few that did come, so we started leaving the outside lights off and now we have a totally peaceful Halloween! Halloween has never been my favorite holiday anyway, so we don't mind missing out.

  20. Super fun interview on Jodi's blog. I'll definitely take a look at your books on amazon. Cupcake loves wearing her costumes because being dressed usually means we're going to the VA to do therapy "work" or something fun is going to happen. That being said, she is deathly afraid of decorations - especially pumpkins.

  21. Our golden used to sit on the porch with me and greet the kids, whether permitting. The brown dawgs are kept away from the door because they are a little to excited to see kids. Rita looks cute in her costume.

  22. Cool pictures. You look very darling in your giddy up. My dogs would bark at the doorbell but would be very happy to meet the guest.

  23. Oh Rita!! Dakota would go NUTS with the doorbell ringing every minute! We live in a condo community where they aren't allowed to trick or treat. I miss it but for Cody and Dakota we are better off.

  24. Hey Rita

My Mum says that "Not for Doggies" nonsense too - doh!

I like Halloween though, we get literally tons of kids visiting, mainly cos Dad is really into it and does a whole scare performance with lots of props, Mum doesn't understand it! This year he has lots of teenagers in the neighborhood wanting to help him too, so no idea what he'll be up to!

I get all excited when the doorbell goes and have to greet every one of them! Most times Mum just takes me outside for a while to watch everyone coming and going, so they don't need to ring the bell, then we go for a little walk in the neighborhood to see the big music/light show at the house around the corner, yep, no sleepy dead end to hide out here! :)

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  25. We like the pumpkin patch, could care less about the decorations, and find those kids at the door irritating...so not the favorite of holidays.

  26. Ha! Well, perhaps she simply thought it was too low class and tacky for her approval!

  27. Hey Rita! We were wondering if you'd like to take part in a round robin "novel" we're doing for NaNoWriMo. It's going to be the best book ever because it's going to be written by all of us dogs! If you'd like to take a turn, please e-mail me at bossdog AT roccoshouse DOT com. Thank you! :D
