K9 Kamp: Are You and Your Pup Keeping Up?

It's time for a check in on how K9 Kamp is going. You might remember that I posted about this month's challenge a few week's back, which is to add an EXTRA 30 minutes of activity with your pup 3 or 4 times a week.
I gotta admit -this has been a toughie for us this time. For the summer version of Kamp, we got extra time in by adding a 2nd walk at night with the Daddy. But this month's been pretty crazy at Daddy's work, so we've only managed to do this about twice a week.

That leaves another day or two that we've been trying to add 30 minutes, and I gotta admit, we have fallen short. (Although we have at least maintained our 45 -60 min walks each morning. We're not complete slackers.)

We've snuck in a few extra minutes here and there by adding a game of fetch after we get home from a walk. While Rita fetches, I trade off doing jumping jacks or squats.
But Rita's not a natural when it comes to fetch. She'll go after it about 4 or 5 times, and then she's done. So that doesn't last very long.

We've also had a few dance parties. We'll put on some music and get our groove on, which must be a frightening sight to her, cuz she usually dives in to try to stop it! Here she is groovin' with Daddy:
"Is this your only move, Daddy?"

That usually only lasts about 5 or 10 minutes at the most.

So... we're not quite achieving the full extra 30 minutes of activity we set out to, but we're trying! There's one more week to go, and my new SlimDoggy gear just arrived so that should give us new motivation!

Thanks to Gizmo, cuz we won it from a giveaway on his site!

How about you? Are you kamping along with us? If so, don't forget to head over HERE and enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for these fun prizes:

  1. You know, the 30 minutes is just a guideline, but maybe Rita is just fine with the amount she's already getting. You've added a few more fun activities and she lets you know when she's done. I'd say that's perfect!

  2. Great idea to start dancing!! What a fun way to burn a few extra calories :)

  3. I thought with two dogs, I'd be doing slightly less exercise but I find myself doing more. Trying to teach the foster dog good habits! And extra activities for Mr. N so he has time alone with me.

  4. We don't do kamp but we think it is an excellent idea. I get hours of squirrel chasing each day and that does it for me. Have a fabulous Friday.
    Best wishes Molly

  5. Good efforts trying to keep the momentum going particularly if you've been busy elsewhere. It doesnt sound like your pup is missing out too much though. Like the new tshirt & hat from SlimDoggy - stylin'

  6. You're looking mighty stylish in that SD gear...so glad you like it...Dance parties are something we do too...at first Giz would just give me "the look" but now he dances around with me and it's fun (as long as no one has a camera)

  7. I'm blushing. Thanks for the shout out about my prize donation :-) Rudy was terribly disappointed that Rita doesn't enjoy fetch. Jeffie? Jeffie says this only confirms that Rita is his kind of girl ;-)

  8. I agree with Peggy - 30 minutes is just a guideline. I say ANY extra time is time well spent. Dance parties are fun, but Jack is a little to big and klutzy to dance - he tries, but he has four left feet. You look great in the gear...and you "Get off your Butt, Workout with your Mutt" T-shirt will be sent off right away. Thanks for ordering!

  9. Nailah isn't the best for fetch either, she gets bored if I don't keep it super exciting for her :) Some dogs are just more natural at it than others, right? I do love those pics of your pup dancing with her dad. Awesome way to exercise and cute way of bonding! <3

  11. Human dancing must be a little scary for dogs, like we're reverting to our savage ways.

  12. Well, you and Rita both look mah-ve-lous! So you must be doing something right. :)

  13. None of us really play "games" like fetch, so that is out. We have been doing some new stuff I hope to post on next week but with a new puppy, my senior sister and now my surgery, it has been tough to find something for all of us to do. We always walk and play chase and wrestle, and we are fit, so that is not the problem. It is finding something new to try that is tough.

  14. I think you already do great with your daily walks, so anything you add to that, even if not much, is a bonus. Our golden retriever actually loses interest in fetch too. She'll play a little bit, but mostly she just watches her beagle sister do all the work!
The dance parties look fun, that was a good idea! My dogs usually look at me like I'm nuts when I dance. :)

  15. I think you do a great job with your walks in the mornings! Anything else is bonus.
And geez, pics of Rita and your husband dancing together? Are you trying to kill us with cuteness or something? :)
Yeah, the wiens don't care for fetch much either... they'll gladly run after anything that is thrown, but have no interest in bringing it back to us... therefore it's not something that we can use as an exercise.

  16. You're so creative with the activities that you do. Kayo and I have been doing pretty good but we're pushing hard before it gets too cold! Congrats on the SlimDoggy gear!

  17. Way to go! I LOVE dance parties w/ my mom & daddy! Whenever they start to dance, I stop whatever I'm doing to join them! I also love playing fetch, so we often play fetch after our walks, when my muscles are all warmed up. We're not doing K9 Camp because my staff is "too busy", but we exercise every day anyway.

  18. I guess K9 Kamp is really about raising awareness and trying. I think very few actually meet or exceed the challenged. We are one of the co-hosts and we aren't keeping up either. This college thing is kicking my butt.

  19. Love the dance party. Have a great day.

  20. As long as you're trying, that's all that really counts. So funny that she wants to break up the dancing...Leah wouldn't like that either. :-)

  22. Some months are easier than others, but you're trying and that counts. I never thought to throw some music on.....I know Delilah would dance along. :-D
