Today we are joining the brand new Thursday Barks and Bytes Blog Hop (hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog) with a review of Kurgo car door protectors.
I mentioned in my post on "An Angel's Twin" recently that we bought door protectors for my new car. I got them on Amazon for $22.50 for the set.
Here's the view of the front side. The mesh part at the bottom is actually a pocket, so you could put the dog's leash or stash some poo bags in there.
The backside has some velcro (the black vertical strips) in case you need to shorten the length for your car. The square plastic tabs at the top are how you attach it to the door.
There are 4 tabs that you slide in along the window glass.
At first, I couldn't get my tabs to slide in (the windows were so "tight" next to the rubber piece). But I found it was looser at at the back end of the window so started there and slid the tabs along.
And, voila, it was in place. As you can see, they hang down far enough to protect the arm rest if your dog is an arm-rest surfer, like Rita.
Now... Would they stay in place?
Some of the Amazon reviews said they didn't like these because when you lower the window, they fall out. I was concerned, because Rita does like to have the window down a bit so she can sniff the air.
So far they have stayed in, even when the windows go up and down - but I only lower them a few inches at the most. (I never lower the window the whole way - I imagine they'd fall out then.) Sometimes the tabs have come up a bit at the end of a car ride (from the window movement), but I just push them down again before we head out the next time.

I suppose we could lower the window more if I worked again on training Rita to wear her Doggles.

The bottom line: My old car doors were covered with dog hair and scratches, but I don't think that will be a problem anymore now that we have our car door protectors!
Another Quick Shout-out
Thank you to Indie Author Land for posting the interview with me about Rescue Me, Maybe! If you're an indie author, check out their site - they'll tweet for you when your book is on sale and you can simply fill out their interview form on their site and hopefully they'll post it!
Note: I was not compensated for this post, or even asked to do the review. I wanted to review the product as others had asked for the review.
Thanks again to 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog for hosting:
These would've been great when we had the car! As soon as we got Alma and doubled our Newf population, though, it was goodbye sedan, hello SUV! Drool on the windows remains an issue. lol
ReplyDeleteDoggles are a pretty good idea. I get some major rage when I see dogs' heads hanging way out car windows at high speeds - if a rock can chip my windshield, what will it do to your dog's face or eye?!
Yeah - that makes me crazy too. We never let her hang her head out at high speed - only in our 'hood, which has a 25 mph speed limit. She's not a huge fan of the Doggles, unfortunately!
DeleteI take it you keep them contained in the back of the SUV? Thought about that w/ Rita, but she likes the backseat.
I've looked at these, so I've been waiting to see how they worked for you. I think they're such a great idea. Thanks for the review (and those adorable photos of our favorite senorita)
ReplyDeleteMy only wish is htat the tabs would be a bit longer so they would stay in better when she has her "episodes" but if your pups don't scratch at the doors, they'll probably stay in place fine.
DeleteMy car is a mess, I really should get something like these, but I'm also lazy, so I would buy them and then not install them...
ReplyDeleteIt really only takes 30 seconds to get both installed. But i hear you on the lazy thing... I'm the same. :) Nothing like a new car to motivate me though! (My old car was a disaster!)
DeleteSounds like a good solution to having Rita in the car and protecting it at the same time. We are lucky as we don't really need to drive anywhere being in a big town. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Rita looks great in her doggles, and thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteIt's too late for my car :-) But those look like a good idea when you are starting fresh.
ReplyDeleteA great idea, I'll see when I can get some cos Dina is an atrocious car door surfer :)
ReplyDeleteDina Mom
What a great idea! I will have to get a few of these so I don't have to wipe up the dog drool off the door.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the back of the SUV and have a cover for back there. I am the only one that does nose art on the back window and Mom doesn't seem to care much about that. We do have a seat cover for a car backseat in case we ever are in a car, but covers are a must regardless of where we are sitting, and a seat belt hook up too!
ReplyDeleteShe looks cute with the Doggles on. Mr. N doesn't really shed so I don't worry too much about the car. And when I remember, I stick a towel in there to wipe his feet. I've tried to calculate before if we break even with grooming costs when you consider the money we save on lint rollers, vacuums and various protective gear.
ReplyDeleteWe do a lot of travel with our dog (all the time) and this is a great idea - ty!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining Barks and Bytes! Thanks too for the great review. Our problem is the slobbery drool. Thunder especially slobbers on the door. I will have to show this review to hubby since he is always complaining about it. Of course Thunder gets the window too...lol. Rita looks cute in doggles. :)
ReplyDeleteThe inside of my car is covered with fur, drool, and treat crumbs. I am ok with it. Those who ride in my car, not so much...
ReplyDeleteAwesome review Jackie, thanks for that!! My car will be paid off the end of this year and I've basically decided I will drive it 'til it stops. BUT I could have the car detailed and then add the door protectors. Now if only there was a way to stop the drool on the windows.....:-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Barks and Bytes Blog hop! It's awesome to have people supporting it!
Great review, and I love Rita in the Doggles....too cute!
ReplyDeleteThose are very cool! Next thing? RainX for the inside of the windows and those slurpy nose prints! Do you think it would work?
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh...love it!!
