Mirth Watch Thursday: Disciplining Doggy

Thanks to Doggie Stylish for pointing out this pawesome graphic originally from The Onion on "how we are disciplining our pets":

Yeah, we do the "constant hugging" thing a lot for discipline. Sometimes we also come home smelling like other dogs if we're really put out with her. But we would never go so far as having children to punish the dog.

How about you? Does this about size up how you discipline your pet?

Who's An Author's BFF? (Best Furry Friend)
In other silliness, I wrote a guest post last week on the Change the Word blog about how dogs make the best friends for authors. It was A Ruff Rebuttal to a guest post from the prior week by my author friend Libby Mercer claiming that cats make the best friends for authors. (What's really funny is that one of the ladies who commented on my post thought we were seriously feuding with one another. She called the whole thing "ridiculous." Which I took as a compliment.)

  1. The woman who thought your guest post was ridiculous needs to get a life or a sense of humor, whichever is easier.

I do a lot of scowling at Indy followed by a kiss on the top of the head as discipline.

    1. A scowl followed by a kiss on the head sounds like a good technique. That should have made the chart!

  2. This is a great graphic!!
I have 3 cats and a dog - they're all my BFF's for different reasons - but when writing... dog is king! (Edith Wharton quote: My dogs, little heartbeats at my feet)

  3. Psh. We got the dogs BECAUSE we had children. Coming home smelling like other dogs is always a good punishment. Even better is to come home smelling like horse or goat. Freaks 'em out.

  4. HA ha! This is great. I missed it on Karen's blog. Thanks so much for sharing. P.S., I like to steal Desmond's blanket when I'm mad at him for snuggling with my husband instead of me. :-p

  5. A lot of dogs actually do think being hugged is punishment. It's that whole primate behavior thing that we foist on our poor dogs.....But they are such good sports they just go along with it.

Mine are just such angels, I never need to discipline them...Yea, that's it!

    1. Yeah, I know some dogs don't like the hugging. We torture her. She endures it cuz she's a sweet pea. I can't help being a smotherer...

  6. Tee hee! I remember seeing this a little while ago and it cracked me up.

I've totally done the fake petting thing. Sometimes I just like to mess with her mind to see if she can tell the difference between real petting and me moving my hand in a petting motion over her head. Cruel, I know. :-P

    1. I like to mess with their wee heads too sometimes. I'm right there with you!

  7. I have watched C-Span and I think it is definitely dog AND human abuse, not just punishment.

  8. This is so cute. We use time out with our dogs. They're so great though that even a stern look will get them to step back into line. They're practically perfect :)

  9. I am defintley guilty of punishing them by means of hugging:)

  10. I think coming home smelling of other dogs is good, as well as other children, since both dogs like playing with kids a lot. As for the lady who thought you guys were really feuding, she clearly does not have a sense of humor.
