Mirth Watch Thursday: How Rude Is That Puppy in the Window?

Just a quick mirth watch post today (what?! She's not going to be wordy?) because it's NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. To officially participate, you sign up online and keep track of your word-count progress, and to "win" you need to come up with 50,000 words (most of them formed into actual sentences!) by month end.
Hang in there for more cuteness like this!
BTW, 50,000 words does not a novel make. In general, your average 300-page novel is about 90-100K words. So, really it should be called NaHaANoWriMo - National Half-a-Novel Writing Month, but that's unwieldy and sounds like some ancient Hawaiian word.

I'm not officially participating because that's a LOT of words, 1667/day to be exact or ~6 pages of double-spaced typing. (I did "win" a few years back though, as Rescue Me, Maybe started out as a NaNo book. And boy how it changed from there!) But, I am doing a mini-Nano on my own, attempting to add 1000 words/day to my manuscript. Yes, it's JaNoFaMo - Jackie's Novel-Fattening Month. (Not to be confused with JaAssFaMo, which also falls this time of year due to things like pumpkin pie...)

Anyway, attempting is the key word. I'm behind, and I need to try to catch up! And then I need to try to get ahead, because we're hosting Thanksgiving this year, and I know I'll have tons of cleaning (which I've been avoiding!) and prep stuff to do that week. So, this is just a quick post cuz I really need to do some writing today! (All this explaining is turning this into a long post. I can't help... I'm always wordy...)

Okay... without further ado, we've all seen videos of pups seeing themselves in the mirror for the first time, but (a) that never gets old, right? and (b) I know you never saw this one before, because I shot it myself with my phone when I was walking a super-cute pup at the shelter the other day.

The title of this post comes from this pup's frustration that the rude puppy in the window would not play with her!
And, on the even-more-mirthful news front, this little girl has already been adopted! Hooray!

P.S. I've not been counting the words I've written on the blog in my daily count - much as I would like to. If I counted how blabby I am here, I'd be all caught up! Okay, back to work...

Go forth and be mirthful!

  1. 1000 words a day is a great goal. I did NaNoWriMo last year and ended up with 50K of crud that I'm not happy with.

Nice to hear that good things do come from it though (like your first novel).

P.S. You really cracked me up with JaAssFaMo, because I'm suffering thru that right now! LOL!

    1. Oh, believe me - mine was 48000 words of crud when I was done - but there were a few usable words (the "and"s, "but"s and "the"s were all recyclable!) and you gotta start somewhere!

And let's just be clear - you are suffering from DoAssFaMo! :)

    2. Too true. That's what happens when you eat to many do-nuts. ;-)

    3. "Too many"
      not "to many"
      yikes!
no wonder why I had 50,000 words of crud. LOL!

  3. I hope the writing goes well. You made me laugh with this - (most of them formed into actual sentences!)

    Best wishes Molly

  5. The only thing cuter than a puppy? Two puppies--even if one is a reflection.

Good luck on your writing this month.

  6. Hilarious! I love the dog's voice! And every month is FlAssFaMo here. Sadly.

    1. Truthfully, it's pretty much every month around here now too. But the holidays is the worst!

  7. That is so cute!!

I did Nano whatever it is last year and hit about 37,000 and never picked it up again. It burned me out. I applaud those of you who can do it this way, it's not for me. :-) Good luck!!

    1. Yeah, I only did it "officially" that one time. It's a grind. But I've done my own "mini" version a few times, and that seems to work better for me! Every writer has to find what works for them.

  8. NaNoWriMo and all of you committed people make me feel like a slacker every year since JaAssFaMo is also at work here. My dogs are also slackers when they first see their reflection. They walk up, sniff it and totally lose interest.

    1. It's so much easier to be a slacker, I must admit. I don't know if I'll make my goal - slacking off is tempting - but now that I've put it 'out there' in writing, maybe I'll be more likely to make it!

  9. I'm not surprised that she's been adopted! What a little cracker jack!

Every year November rolls around, and darned if it's not the second most insanely busy month of the year for us! *sigh*

    1. Ugh, yes, Nov. (and Dec) are always SO busy. And with the 4-day weekend, plus Nov having only 30 days instead of 31... well, I for one wish that NaNoWriMo was in October instead!

  10. I dislike word counts. I usually end up over, guess I ramble too much :) Good luck!

    1. Word counts kinda stress me out and I don't usually pay attention to them - except in November!

  11. Too cute video! You make me laugh every time you say you're not going to say much! All those abbreviations have had me confused lately....I kept seeing it everywhere and forgetting what it stood for. Hope you are able to reach your goal!
BTW, I had to change my whole plan for my blog post today, because I got too wordy and realized I was going to need another whole post for one of my originally planned this n that Thursday topics! So it's not always just you. :)

  12. Love it! Love the post, love the pix, love the vid! It all had me laughing and asking myself; 'Am I sure I didn't write this?' thats how much I can relate to this post... pumpkin pie included! lol

    1. Oh, I see I've found a kindred spirit! Love me some pumpkin pie. I bought an entire one at Costco the other day! So bad!!

  13. I love this post! Would mine be HeAssFaMo? :)

I was reading up on the history of NaNoWriMo and originally the goal was to write 100,000 words in the month! The guy dropped it down to 50k a couple years later... :)

    1. Heehee! Yes, that's what it would be - especially if you also find pumpkin pie to be a downfall.

That's very interesting about the 100K word thing! Now it makes sense why it's called NaNoWriMo instead of NaHaANoWriMo!
