Wordless Wednesday: Tiny Hats and Fond Memories

Y'all know Flea, right? If not, go subscribe to her Jones Natural Chews blog now, cuz she's funny and she gives away yummy treats and fun things. (Like the leash Rita won!)

Anyway, you should also be friends with her on Facebook, cuz she's funny and she gives you ideas for things to post about on your blog! Like the other day when she posted this picture of this fine, tiny hat, and said she was going to put it on her duck Jimmy the next day.
And, as promised, here's Jimmy, looking quite dashing in the fine, tiny hat.
Jimmy, the dashing duck
For good measure, the hat was also modeled by Legolas, one of her chickens...
This picture makes me think of those Purple Hat Ladies.
...And Flash, one of her dogs.
Adorable, yes?
It reminded me of eons ago when the hubs, my one sis, and I went to a Padres game. My sis and I got ice cream sundaes, which they used to serve in these tiny batting helmets.

We barely paid attention to the rest of the game, because we were so excited to get home and put the tiny batting helmet on my mom's dog, Sugar. Sugar, as her name would imply, was the sweetest little beagle ever. But she had a very funny little pea-head, thus our excitement about putting the helmet on her head, as opposed to a selection of other beagles in the family at the time. (My stupid scanner wouldn't work, so I just took a picture of the picture, so not the best quality, but you get the idea.)
Me & Sugar (I forgot I used to wear glasses!)
You can see I am thrilled about this. Sugar... not so much.

I hunted for that photo - going through several old albums! (Luckily I'm anal and have my albums labeled by year, but I was only roughly guessing what year that was). After wasting a lot of time, I finally remembered that I love this photo so much, because it's such a funny memory for me, that I have it on the little shelf in front of my writing desk! D'oh!

And then I thought I'd share the dog-ified shelf of the desk where I do all my doggy-blog and doggy-novel writing. (I'm not great at the "pano" function on my phone yet...)
My writing desk, full of dog books, stuffies, trinkets, and photos! (click to big-ify)
All that doggy stuff helps me channel my inner dog while I write!  (BTW, those stuffies are all right at Rita's nose level, and she's never once tried to steal one. She's such a good girl! On the other hand, you might be able to see the chew marks on some of the books on the right from when we had Abby!)

Ah, good memories. Do you have a fun, favorite memory of a family angel?

Thanks to Flea for letting me "borrow" her photos! Happy not-so-wordless Wednesday!

  5. When I saw that purple hat on Flea's site, I thought for sure it was a feature from a photo blogging site. But it's a real hat! You just made my day.

BTW, love your shelf of memories. I have them too, along with some dog sculptures, a dog lamp, and a hand crafted dog CD rack. :)

  7. I love your memory shelf. :) We have books and our family clock with chew marks from our first cockatiel. Good memories. Sugar looks adorable in the batting hat!

I got the tiny hat at a Civil War battle reenactment. I've gotten other tiny hats at the local party supply store. Tiny hats are in vogue at the moment, at least here in Oklahoma, where we're a little behind the times.

  9. Love the duck and chicken wearing that fashion-forward hat. My favorite memory of that baseball sundae hat is that you sent the picture to Mom with a little note on the back that said, They all went to the Padres game and all I got was this stupid hat.

  11. Good and precious memories of Sugar. What a great photo and that's good you're able to preserve the photo. Mom lost many photos for the past years ... cute little doggie stuffies. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  15. Love the expression on Sugar's face. It"s like dogs are trying to figure out if the home, food, bed, exercise partner, poop scooper, and general servants of their humans is worth the occasional humiliation.

  16. Ha! That sounds like something we would do. I remember those sundae bowls, too. We tried to get one from each team for a long time, or maybe that was just an excuse to get my grandparents to take us to Dairy Queen more often....

  19. I enjoyed Flea's purple hat photos too....she is so funny. How cool that it brought back that memory for you, and what a cute photo (Sugar does look pretty annoyed though...lol). I can't tell you how much time I've killed more than once looking through old photo albums for a certain photo! I love your shelf....I have that same picture frame as on the right, also full of pet photos!

  23. We saw that tiny hat, so cute! I'm mom's inspiration...I sit in her office in the front window most of the time when she is writing. She says it is hard to write if I am not there, but she also does a lot of writing in her head on our walks and then just types it out when we get home.

  24. Aw! Her duck is so cute! I did see the photo of the purple hat, but hadn't yet seen her hat models. And Sugar looks cute in her little hat too!

  26. Okay, first off, cute hat and hat pictures! Secondly, all I could think about after seeing Jimmy the duck in the hat was Beatrix Potter's story about Jemima Puddle-Duck!

    Wags to all,
