Monday Mischief: We Do Have SOME Rules Here at The Spa

Things are pretty easy for spoiled pups who live here at our spa. They can get up on the sofa, sleep on the bed (although Rita mostly chooses not to), lick the plates before they go in the dishwasher (again, Rita doesn't always want to, because she's weird...), etc.

But we do have a few rules, and one of them is hard and fast: No sticks in the house!

Our last pup, Abby, (who was FULL of mischief) often flagrantly attempted to violate this rule:
"What, Momma?? I'm just practicing my Groucho Marx imitation."
But Rita (except for her reactivity issues on walks and with strangers in the house) has been good as gold.

I thought that would be the end of it, but then she must have started channeling her angel big sister, because later I found her like this:

Does your dog ever flauntingly breaking the rules at your house?

In Other News...
I'm going to be guest blogging Monday at my author-gal-pal Tracie Banister's blog. Tracie is celebrating the one year anniversary of her novel, In Need of Therapy. The main character is from a fun and nutty Cuban family, so Tracie is celebrating by having guest bloggers post family recipes. Stop by and read about one of my fave comfort-food recipes from my mom. It's easy to make! (Turns out, most of my mom's recipes are... but you can read about that on Tracie's blog.) While you're there, you can enter to win a Cuban cookbook!

Thank you to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  1. Hehe another awesome stick post! ;) Shiner really likes sticks too, but I've never seen her take them inside really. But yes, she does try to break the rules all the time. I actually gave her more rules to follow here lately and she's been very good at listening to them. But she still tries to break them :)

    1. I'm supposed to be giving Rita more rules to follow (after her training sessions) but the hubs keeps letting her break them!

  2. We don't bother with sticks in the house but plastic plant pots and bottles are our thing. Rules are there to be broken we say. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

  4. LOL. Rosie still isn't fully "with the program" and tries to bring sticks inside. Jeffie and Rudy know better and their faces are funny to watch when she gets her stick taken away. I think they like it when she gets in trouble ;-)

  5. My guys are pretty good around the house, so there really aren't any rules to break. They pretty much have the run of the house. They aren't allowed on the white sofa in the living room, that's about it. Once in a blue moon, they break that rule....usually in a fit of play.

    1. Wow - I can't imagine them hopping up on the sofa. Is there a step-stool? :)

  7. We have the occasional breaking of the rules. Mostly Torrey is the one that tries to stretch the boundaries.

  8. I don't have a problem with them bringing stuff inside. It's when I find someone has sneaked an expensive toy outside that has gotten sun beached and sprinkled on that I get perturbed. I'm thinking of running DNA tests to see who sneaked it out since I'm getting only paw pointing from the dogs.

    1. Funny. Rita rarely takes her stuff outside. The last time we took one of her good balls outside, it went down our ridiculously steep slope. Thought it would be lost forever, but she finally managed to find it and bring it back up.

    1. Did you think your name was "No, Greta, no" when you were growing up? Pretty sure that's what Abby thought her name was.

  10. Our dogs aren't stick dogs. Patches frustrates me the most, and usually because she doesn't come when I'm calling her into the house.

    1. Abby used to pull that one too! Luckily she was addicted to the laser light, and I had a little laser light thingy on my key chain, so if I jingled my keys, she'd come running. Scamp.

    2. Oh smart! Patches loves the laser light! Part of the problem is that she hides around the corner where we can't see each other. We have a large back yard. I wonder if I can train Jimmy to carry the laser light around the corner ... No, having her chase Jim is probably a bad idea.

  14. Ohhhhh yessssssssss Dakota (and Cody!) break rules every day!

  15. Wow, Rita looks a lot like Abby did, except her markings are different. Their head and muzzle shape, their expressive eyes, their ears, their body type... they really look like they could've come from the same litter, except that well... they didn't.
Speaking of expressive eyes, you always catch Rita making best faces. "Mama, can I bring my stick in the house?" So perfect.
The kids don't usually try to bring anything into the house. But break other rules? I think THEY think they were born to break rules.

    1. Yep, that's why Rita lives here with us. We were going to take a long break after we lost Abby - but 5 days after we lost her, my hubs asked Abby and Bailey (our angel beagle) to send us a sign if they were together at the bridge. Immediately after that, I saw Rita's picture online - and she looked like Abby w/ Bailey's coloring. Had to have her! Brought her home the next week. :)

Your pups are so cute they can get away with some rule breaking I bet!

  16. Our dogs have it just as easy as yours do! Only those Beagles are always willing to lick the plates (I'm sure that doesn't surprise you). One rule is that no stuffy toys can go outside. Our Golden Sheba will often go running out the door with one in her mouth though! Once in a while we'll just find one in the yard and wonder how the heck it got out there! They can be sneaky! Rita looks so cute....that's what makes it hard to say no to them!

  17. We don't allow raw bones and pork chews in the house, but the dogs will always try and bring them in - they all understand "that's an outside toy" or "leave it outside" - but sometimes they'll drop it then right before they come in the house, they'll quickly grab their bone or chew and run to the sofa. Cracks me up.

  18. Hi Y'all!

Too funny! Heck my Human doesn't even let me play with a stick. I can help her pick them up in the yard, but not play with them.

    Y'all come by now,

    1. Well, that's nice that you help pick them up! Rita loves to pick them up when we are on walks and bring them along for a ways. :)

  19. Oh where oh where should I start with the Gman. He is always breaking the rules, the one he breaks 10 times a day is standing on the counters or stove or table! Have a great night.

  20. Lol, you are one sneaky girl Rita!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh, they bread the rules alright. I don't think it's "flauntingly" though because if you asked them, they would swear there aren't any rules ;)

    1. Sounds like they have the same spa set up that Rita does. :)

  22. I used to try and sneak my Bunny outside but I always got caught...no stuffies outside is our rule. Never tried to bring in a stick...did try to bring in a dead wabbit and almost succeeded but got stopped at the last second.

    1. A dead wabbit?? Yikes!

I guess we do have that rule here too - no dead things in the house.

  23. Honey does the opposite of the stick rule--she takes her house toys outside and leaves them in the yard. I'd probably like it better if she brought sticks in the house. It would be less messy. :)

BTW, have you ever seen those stick toys? I don't know what they're made of but they don't splinter and have soft edges. Maybe Rita needs one of those.

    1. That seems to be a common thread with the others - dogs who take the house toys out!

No, I haven't seen those stick toys. Funny - will have to look for one.

  24. Haha - Do I ever?!

I usher Dad out to work every morning and then promptly jump on their bed and get all cosy whilst I wait for Mum to take me out - she tells me to get off, but I can't hear her, I only listen to Dad and well, he's not here! Tee Hee

Great mischief Rita, before you know it they'll be finding and bringing in nice sticks for you to gnaw on! :)

    Have fun

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  25. I wish I could have caught a video of one of my Corgis trying to being a stick into the house through a patio slider that wasn't open quite enough! It was hilarious!
