HOT Dog & the #RememberTheRescue Contest!

It's been pretty hot here - the temps aren't that bad here at the coast, but it's been unusually muggy.

Rita's not a fan of overly hot weather so we got her a little pool this summer. As I've mentioned here before, she hates to swim, but loves to dunk!

We set up the pool thinking she'd love to come home from a walk and have a dunk. But she refuses.

She'll put her toes in, but that's it.

The other day after our walk, it was so hot I found her crashed in our shower. Funny because we've definitely had hotter days before, but that was the first time she ever went in there! So much for the pool!

Luckily, it is supposed to cool down a lot and also be less muggy starting Wednesday. And we are even beginning to see some signs of fall. Hooray! My favorite season!

Fall can often be very hot and dry in San Diego (and usually it's fire season) so hopefully these cooler temps will stay!

#RemembertheRescue Contest!
A month back, I blogged about Remember Me Thursday coming up on 9/28. It's a day to "shine a light" on all the pets waiting to be adopted into their furever homes.

As part of #RememberMeThursday, Helen Woodward Animal Center (where I volunteer) is running a #RememberTheRescue contest until 9/30. All you have to do to try to help your favorite rescue group win cash ($5K for 1st place!) & food/toys is:

1. Snap a pic of your beloved rescue pet and share it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #RememberMeThursday and #RememberTheRescue

2. Then go to the contest page here and upload your image to enter.

At the end of the month, HWAC will select 3 winners based on their photos/stories. Entries can come from anywhere in the world, but the rescue group you nominate for the prize must be in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico.
My #RememberTheRescue pic from last year

I would LOVE it if one of you won!! So enter!!

How's YOUR weather?

Thanks to BlogPaws for hosting Wordless Wednesday! Stop by their site to check out all of the other blogs in the hop.

    1. Yeah, it's just funny to me though that she's never tried that before - especially since we've had hotter days. Maybe she FINALLY trusts me to not turn the shower on on her. :)

  2. My guys LOVE to swim in the lakes and streams and even big pools but the baby pool is a big N-O !!! They absolutely won't go in unless I dump them in. Silly boys.

Our weather has been uncharacteristically cool starting in the end of August. No complaints from me or the boys!

    1. That's so funny. Well, it must be the kiddie pool then. We need to go back to the beach - been waiting for the summer crowds to die down so hopefully start up again next week.

  3. Awesome picture of Rita promoting Remember the Rescue. I still plan on putting up a post about it sometime next week. It's such a great cause and so important since I'm sure tons of animals were displaced during the hurricane. Booker T and Cass made sure to donate to them already.

Rita is hilarious in the shower. Our dogs were never much interested in a pool either. Made me think, last night when I went to bed, I found Cass just standing in the bathroom staring at the shower. I was waiting for his little doggy voice to say "I see dead people" and then I was soooo out of there!

    1. I was pretty excited when we happened upon that RESCUE surfboard. :)

That's so funny - I imagine Rita saying the same thing whenever she's staring off at nothing. (Or what I THINK is nothing.) :)

  4. I can't keep my dog, Bear, out of the water! And if there is no water, he takes a mud bath – see my Wordless Wednesday post for his mud picts :)

    1. Oh dear. At least we don't get a lot of rain here so not a lot of mud. She did lay down in a really grossly dirty gutter puddle once, but she's never had the chance for a mud bath!

  5. the plastic pool just doesn't quite compare to the ocean :( Jaxson feels the same way. Cool rescue contest, I wish everyone the best!

    1. Well.. when you put it that way... yeah, I guess I can see how a crappy pool in the backyard is not quite the same as the Pacific Ocean. :)

  6. Torrey would be the same way. She gets hot, but god forbid she has a swim to cool down. If we coax her into the river, she will go.

    1. Same with Rita - if I go in the water she'll follow me, reluctantly. (SO cute when she swims! I wish she liked it! She's the first dog we've had who would swim at all but not willingly.)

  7. We are supposed to take a big dip in temperatures. From high 80's to low 60's - Ugh. We would love to have some time in the 70's - nice pleasant fall weather

    1. Oh, that is a big dip! Some nice time in the 70s would be great. (That's what we're supposed to get this week! Yay!)

  8. When my children were young we got a cool off pool for them. They used it once. I wonder how else Rita is like them.

    1. Hahahaha. I wonder too. She's very picky... often looks at her food and walks away. Does that sound familiar at all?

  9. The shower looks like the ideal place to be on a hot day!

    1. It is nice and cool in there. Probably the coolest spot in the house. (Although... our guest bath might be a bit cooler - but that's where she gets her baths so she rarely goes in there willingly!)

  10. It's been hot and dry here too. I'm so over summer and definitely looking forward to autumn, my favorite 'color.' 🍁

    1. There are lots of dogs at the shelter that do that too. And if the pool isn't full, they'll do the same in the big water bowls. :)

  12. Our pets are so funny. I love how she chooses the shower over the pool purchased just for her.... Beautiful shower tiles by the way.

    1. Oh, thank you. But she's right - I did miss a spot.

  13. Hee, hee, funny that Rita won't dunk in her pool but glad she likes the shower. I'll bet the tiles are nice and cool. We bought a wading pool for Seriously last summer and she hated it. Refused to get in, though she'll happily jump in any lake or creek or stream or even large puddle. Cheers and have a great rest-of-the-week. Hope it cools off down there. I'll send some of our 50-degree weather your way, okay?

    1. It has cooled off nicely - 70s and not so muggy any more - so I'm going to pass on the 50-degree offer. That'a "freezing" to us here in So Cal! :)

  14. Hi Jackie & Miss Rita! Rita, I bet your having super fun with your new pool! Mom got my minion, Bessie the Basset, one a few years ago, but she never used it! The doggie really doesn't like to be in the water. Mew Mew!

    1. You are very wise Dennis! The other bathroom is the one with the dreaded bath tub so she almost *never* goes in there of her own free will!

  16. We entered the contest! I hope I can remember to participate with a post on 9/28 - or maybe by some miracle I'll be organized enough to do a scheduled post. Fingers crossed - and thank you for the reminder :)

  17. It is a shame that Rita doesn't like her pool! My dogs probably wouldn't want like one either, but Theo does enjoy floating on the raft in one.

The Helen Woodward Animal Center must be a great place to volunteer!
