As if it wasn't bad enough that we came home smelling like CATS...
Our friends' gorgeous cat Ollie |
Our "niece" Sushi... |
...she's polydactyl and has the CUTEST feet! |
... not to mention also smelling like this funny pug puppy...
... to add the final insult to injury, we forgot to buy Rita anything!
So she took matters into her own paws.
I'd bought these "dryer hedgehogs." (They're supposed to keep your clothes from clumping up in the dryer so things dry faster/better. But let's face it - I bought them because they're cute.)
I accidentally knocked the laundry basket over, and that was it. From the moment Rita saw those little hedgehogs roll out of there, she was convinced they were for her. She snagged one and ran off with it to her bed to happily gnaw on it.
She had a good time batting it around and then gnawed on it some more.
I didn't have the heart to take them both away from her so she gets one and the dryer gets one. And I'm pretending like we brought it for her for as a present.
Please don't tell her otherwise.
Do you bring home presents for your pets when you travel?
(We normally do!)

That toy looks fun and I bet it feels good to chew on it too. We haven't seen those. Mom uses tennis balls in the dryer.
ReplyDeleteTennis balls just aren't as cute though. :) Couldn't resist these little guys.
DeleteHeck my dogs are so spoiled they look for something when we leave to go anywhere. It looks like a dog toy and acts like a dog toy so I say it's a dog toy! My dogs would not have forgiven me for smelling like cat!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what Rita says - it looks like a toy and acts like a toy, and apparently tastes like a toy too! So it's a toy!
DeleteRita might not have gotten a gift, but the babysitter did and that's all that counts! :-) Do those hedgehogs really work? (Had a big ol' typo in my original comment so I removed it.)
ReplyDeleteI know - I was thinking that, that the babysitter got one but not her! Her present was our presence. :)
DeleteNot sure if it really works yet. Only used it once and it wasn't that big of a load. Will let you know. (It works at being cute though!)
Oh, maybe she'll start! Good luck with that. :)
ReplyDeleteWe never go without the dogs so we don't have to get them a gift ;-)
ReplyDeleteI bet they expect gifts even when they go along. :)
DeleteMy dogs expect to be given something if I just go to the grocery. No, they aren't spoiled, why do you ask?
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Rita is the same. If I walk out the door, she wants a treat because I'm leaving. And when I come back in, same!
DeleteAll we have to do is go out the door and come back in and we expect something for that! How fun you got to meet a pug puppy!
ReplyDeletehugs
Hazel & Mabel
Ha - yes, I just answered basically the same thing in the reply above. :)
DeleteThat pug puppy was so cute! But you already know that!
Rita will never know that the hedgehogs weren't a planned gift from travels! Tee hee hee! Mom & Dad always bring a toy or treat home from travels for the Basset. She also gets a treat when Mom leaves for work. Mew Mew!
ReplyDeleteRita gets a treat when Daddy leaves for work too. She probably wishes I didn't work from home so she could get double. :)
DeleteYou remembered to bring the pet sitter a gift, but forgot Miss Rita? That's just all kinds of wrong (say Rudy and Rosie). They were threatening to tell Rita, but I'm bribing them with cookies!
ReplyDeleteOops. Yes. Please keep the bribes flowing!
DeleteIt looks like Rita has forgiven you. :-) Tallulah is obsessed with our dryer balls. Every time the dryer opens, she's right there waiting for one to fall out. Fortunately our human mommy is quick and tosses them back in before Tallulah can get them . . . most of the time. And yes, the humans do bring gifts home for us from their trips. What can I say? They are very well trained. Haha. Happy Wordless Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny about Tallulah. I heard from someone on IG that he mom and dad's dog also stole one of their dryer balls. Who knew they were such a hit with pups?!
DeleteHee, hee, good for Rita, taking matters into her own hands. We usually bring treats home for Seriously when we travel and it's usually something to eat (the way to a dog's heart is through its stomach, right?). P.S. Love the paws on your friend's cat.
ReplyDeleteWe usually bring her something to eat too. (Dog knows she doesn't NEED anymore toys!) :)
DeleteThe Man won't let me bring back gifts for the dogs!
ReplyDeleteWhaaaaat??? And the dogs still love him?? :)
DeleteHA! It's amazing you got to live to tell the story LOL
ReplyDeleteI know. I felt pretty bad about it! :)
DeleteHow adorable is that hedgehog?! Boy, good thing Rita found it, otherwise you'd have some serious 'splaining to do. Welcome back. No doubt she was just thrilled to see you even with the foreign scents.
ReplyDeleteThey were definitely "foreign" scents since those were all Canadian animals we were lovin' on! :)
DeletePoor Rita! Nice save with the hedgehogs though Looks like she really like them. I love bringing stuff back for Mini and she loves when she gets a bag of goodies. Sometimes I don't bring anything for her and she likes going through the bags of my stuff anyway.
ReplyDeleteYes, POOR Rita! She is treated so shabbily around here! That's cute about Mini. Rita is the same - no matter what we come home with, she has to check it out. Loves to stick her head in my bags. :)
DeleteShe looks pretty happy with her hedgehog, so it turned out OK (and I need to get some of those)! I normally bring something back, but not always. I'm sure Rita is like our crew, and really doesn't need anything new anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely her new fave toy! Constantly batting it around the house. (She plays like a cat!) And, yeah... she didn't really need a new toy! No shortage of toys here.
DeleteBOL that is truly hilarious! What an easy problem solve and Rita is none the wiser. Those hedgehogs are ADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteAren't they so cute?? Not sure it's working as well with only 1! :)
Deletehello rita its dennis the vizsla dog hay yoo no wot they say if life hands yoo hedjhogs just mayk toys owt of them!!! or sumthing like that!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteWords to live by!
DeleteBeautiful kitties and I love polydactyl! Rita's such a happy girl!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love polydactyl cats too! Their feet are to-die-for cute!!
DeleteRita thinks so too!
ReplyDeleteSushi has petite polydactyl paws. Those dryer things do look like dog toys.
ReplyDeletePitbulls are desirous of making their owners happy. If you keep your dog isolated from people or abuse him he is likely to be difficult to get along with. dogs
