It's not her favorite thing to get brushed, so the dog-daddy has been trying to sneak a little brushing in here and there each time she stops on a walk to sniff or eat grass.
"Stop brushing me and let me graze!" |
We normally use a shedding blade, but we've been using a Kong ZoomGroom lately, and it's much smaller so handier for bringing along on walks and she seems to hate it a bit less than the shedding blade.
Not sure if this is late in the year for a dog to be shedding his/her undercoat, but it's still darn hot here (80s today) even if the calendar - and the trees - say we are well into fall.
And they say we don't have fall here in San Diego! |

It always seems just wrong to me then they start shedding in the fall, though I can't complain because Rudy and Rosie don't shed much. Used to have a black lab, Spanky, who let me use a vaccum attachment to take care of those little shedding clumps and tufts :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, man, I wish she'd let me vacuum her! Sometimes when she's laying beside me on the couch, I can't resist trying to pluck the little loose tufts ouy of her haunches. She hates that. But I can't resist!!!
DeleteIt is weird they shed in the fall. I use an undercoat rake on Torrey, that's the only thing that will get deep into her fur. Maybe treat bribery while brushing Rita would work.
ReplyDeleteWe've tried letting her lick a Frosty Paw while we brush her and even with that, she'l only put up with it for a brief while!
DeleteWe pugs shed really bad, but Maggie is the worse.
ReplyDeletestella rose
I would have thought pugs didn't shed that bad! But I bet Rita sheds enough to build another Maggie.
DeleteOur dogs are shed at different times. Thunder always has a great coat for hunting season but then always blows it in February...just in time for all the big dog shows. It made for a challenge to finish his CH. Those Zoom Grooms are nice brushes.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny that they shed at different times. Yeah, we like the Zoom Groom - it's easy to hold and seems like it would be almost like a massage. (But Rita still doesn't like it...)
DeleteI'm convinced Bailey and Katy have no traditional clock for shedding.
ReplyDeleteRita definitely does, but she's the first dog we had that would blow her coat.
DeleteHaha, that is so funny brushing on the run!!
ReplyDeleteThe hubs comes up with some funny ideas sometimes!
DeletePhod sheds all year round!
ReplyDeleteI would have thought he'd blow his coat like Rita.
DeleteWhatever works, right!? Zoe and Phee don't like being brushed all that much either! I usually just do it in the bathtub when they are soapy. They are already upset about the baths, might as well get the extra brush in, too. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, man, I get so much hair out of her when I give her a bath, but she doesn't get bathed very often - lucky girl!
Deletebrush on the go... Don't turn your back Rita
ReplyDeleteKeeps her from dilly-dallying too much on walks! :)
DeleteI've often thought the same thing about Sheba. This fall I was prepared for it, and she hasn't been shedding as bad! Maybe because it's been warmer than usual.
ReplyDeleteThat brush looks similar to the one I use on Luke that he really likes. I love that you use the sneak attack method of grooming...I might have to try that. Sheba is especially fidgety when I try to brush her!
Sheba looks like she'd be a big-time shedder. Maybe you can try the sneak attack method on her!
DeleteStealth brushing!
ReplyDeleteThe hubs likes to think he's a ninja.
DeleteBailey & Hazel do the same thing - they always shed but seem to blow their coat twice a year
ReplyDeleteMabel does not have the thick undercoat they have and does not shed as much
hugs
Mr Bailey, Hazel & Mabel
I assume she'll shed as much as them when she gets older??
DeleteBentley sheds all year. He should be naked by now but it is just never ending hair. ☺ I have to bribe Pierre to get brushed though. I have tried to sneak up on him with the brush, but he always knows. Haha!
ReplyDeleteLol. Yeah, how is it they never end up naked??
DeleteAt our house, we call that tufting. Katie does that a lot. Mom pulls out all the tufts she can on walks.
ReplyDeleteI bet Katie is a class A shedder!
DeleteWith long-coat border collies there is plenty of shedding all year, but no noticeable increase in the fall. The spring is definitely the season when they shed the most.
ReplyDeleteSpring shedding makes sense to me, but I don't get why shepherds blow their coats in the spring AND the fall.
DeleteGood idea to brush on a walk! The pack is done shedding now that winter is almost here. I'm actually looking forward to the spring shed...and the arrival of summer in a few months.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to winter - supposed to actually be cold and rainy this winter here, not like last winter when it was crazy hot all the time!
Deletewhat beautiful fall tree picture, just love the colors.
ReplyDeleteWe have a good number of those in our neighborhood. They're SO pretty!
DeleteWe don't have seasonal shedding here in Doodleville, but I choose to brush the Boys daily to minimize matting. Harley loves it, Leo loved it. Jax fights me every morning.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a big job with those two big boys!
DeleteWe have shedders here and we love our Furminator and use it in conjunction with their shampoo and conditioner with great success. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe also use a shampoo and conditioner that help with shedding. It gets a TON of hair off her.
DeleteI'm so jealous of the green grass in the photo. Green grass! We've been slogging through snow for weeks, but the pup loves it (loves it!). Cheers and have fun with the brushing (tell Rita that I don't like brushing my hair either, okay?)
ReplyDeleteWow, snow for weeks!? Rita's never even seen snow. She loves her some nice green grass!
