Wordless Wednesday: A Photo Flashback

I shared this recently on my Facebook author page, but thought I'd share it here as well.

As far as I know, this is the first known photo of me with a dog: (sorry about the quality - I just took a pic of the original with my phone)
That's me and our beagle, Barney - the first of many pups I would love.

And, yes, I'm old. My childhood was lived in black & white. (Technically I think color film existed during my childhood, but my parents went with the cheaper B&W until I was about 4. From that age on, like Wizard of Oz, my childhood becomes colorful!)

Do you have a "first known photo" of yourself with a pet as a kid?

Happy Wordless Wednesday! Thanks to BlogPaws for hosting!

  2. This would have been a great blog hop! I would have to go through my old photo albums and find one. I don't have many photos from the really young B & W years........

    1. I know, I was thinking it would be a cute blog hop. Don't remember who organized the Meet the Blogger hop but if they do it again they could incorporate that! If you find an old pic, post it!

  3. Awwww, Barney! Beagle pups are the cutest! Jon and I each have a B&W photo from our toddler years where we are hugging a black and white spotted dog. Ours was named "Spot." If Jon weren't so much older than me, I'd say the pups could be from the same litter. ;)

    1. That's funny that you have pics with such a similar dog! (Poor hubs, his first dog was Bailey! What a deprived childhood!)

  4. Love your blonde curls! Yep lots of B&W - my baby pictures and my husband's were hand colored by the photographer. It's actually kind of a cool effect.

  6. I do - it's B&W too...but pretty cute and fun to look at. I did a whole series a few years ago on my families dogs...lots of old pics.

  10. I have a photo of me with my dog Ernie. I named him after the Muppet from Sesame Street. I loved Bert and Ernie as a child. It was the 80s so, it isn't as neat as your photo; thanks for sharing!

    1. Ernie - what a cute name for a dog, and a great source for the name too!

  11. Aren't you just the cutest little girl with your trike and your doggie!!

My son used to complain about black and white pictures and movies. I finally told him that the world didn't have color at all until he was born.

    1. I think my one sis's "first known pet-loving photo" is also with a cat! But the family cat was gone by the time I came along, and then we never had one again when I was a kid.

    1. We had a bird when I was little. One day, apparently my mom was cleaning his cage, and he normally would just sit there whiel she cleaned it, but Barney barked and scared the bird and it flew away! We never saw it again! Apparently I just said, "Well, that's that." I guess I wasn't very attached to that bird!

  16. Very cute! Rachael has a picture like this with her first dog Abby as a little girl. Believe it or not my first photos with a dog is Harley and I am in my 20's!!

    1. My hubs was the same - he didn't have his first dog until we got married, so he was in his late 20s!

  17. How fortunate you are to have such memories. My parents were not pet people, therefore Harley is really my first.

  20. Yes! I found a picture at my mom's house at Christmas time. It was me and my brother at my grandmother's house in Indiana. I think I was four and the dog was a goldeny type named Schatzi. My mother barely remembered the dog...but my brother and I both recalled her name immediately.

  21. What a lovely photo and memory! Sadly, I don't have any childhood pictures with pets (my cat) and my dogs didn't come into the picture until much later on. Your photo is a such a sweet one :-)

  22. What? You're that old? Ha ha, just kidding...my early childhood photos are black and white as well. The only photo of me with a dog was a stuffed one (and it was my favorite toy which I had well into adulthood!...I also think that stuffed dog might have been a beagle).

  23. Love the pic...and of course it would be a beagle. :-) I remember seeing a few photos here and there of me with my mom's past dogs, most of them shepherds.
