Monday Mischief: If Only Rita Was as Sweet as Sugar!

You guys! We met a celebrity this weekend! As fun and exciting as it was, there was a lot of mischief too...

I was super excited to get a chance to meet Sugar (!!) from Sugar the Golden Retriever fame on Saturday!

She was so cute in her Purple Pawz boots, and such a sweetie. Like other celebs I've met/seen, she was smaller in real life! She's so tiny. I'd always pictured her being much bigger than Rita, but they were almost the same size!

It was really nice to meet her and her mom and dad.

But the meeting was not without mischief...

First of all, it took us a while to find each other. We met up at "the cove" - a lovely spot in La Jolla. Sugar's mom said they were by the lifeguard tower and the bathrooms. Problem is there are 2 lifeguard towers, and both have bathrooms, so we were by the wrong ones! We finally figured it out and got together.

Then there was more mischief when Rita had the nerve to snarl and lunge at Sugar. Oh my dog, so mortifying. (Rita can be unpredictable on-leash meeting other dogs, BUT there's an older, very calm golden in our 'hood that Rita really likes and is always sweet to, so I was hoping she'd be the same with Sugar. BUT... 2 days before meeting Sugar, we were attacked AGAIN by an off-leash dog in our 'hood - as you know if you see my posts from my Facebook author page. So, I don't know if that was going through Rita's wee head or what. She was *mostly* okay with Sugar, but was a brat a time or two. Ugh. Like I said, mortifying.)

Then there was the weather mischief! We'd just barely met up (and Rita was finally being okay) when it started pouring! So we had to cut our meeting short and run for it. We were soaked by the time we made it all the way back to our car.
Wearing my SlimDoggy hat for rain protection!
And then, of course, there was the mischief that is eau de wet dog in the car. Pawesome.
"What? I smell good!"
All in all, it was lovely to meet them, but maybe Rita will have to stay home next time! And hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Rita would like to apologize to Sugar for not being on her best behavior, especially since Sugar was nice enough to bring Rita a gift bag full of Caru treats!

One final bit of mischief... Rita refused to smile for the camera! But she really does love the treats and says Thank you very much, Sugar!
"I LOVE these Caru treats!"
How about you? Did you have a fun weekend? Anything mortifying happen, or was that just us?!

    1. I think she didn't like the crinkling of the bags. She was not thrilled when I set them up against her! But she was amply rewarded for her modeling!

  4. We had an ice storm. So fun....NOT! You can't walk a dog when everywhere is ice. I have a short driveway that slopes away from the house. Once I made it to the bottom ( a harrowing journey for sure!), I could get back up! $-Paw drive worked a bit better for the boys, but they were still slipping and sliding. The bad weather also caused us to cancel n indoor swim day :-(

    1. I should proof read before hitting enter..... I could NOT get back up my driveway, and $-Paw is really 4-Paw....seesh, such poor attention to detail!

    2. I figured out what you meant! And that does not sound like fun mischief! I HATE walking when it's icy - I'm such a klutz. You were brave even to venture down the driveway!

  6. Thankfully, Sugar is pretty sweet and probably wasn't bothered by Rita's less than welcoming greeting! :) Although, if that had been Blueberry, my face would have been all kinds of red.

That's interesting about Sugar being so small - I wouldn't have thought that at all - she looks like a regular sized retriever!

    1. I know... seriously so mortifying. Sigh.

And, yeah, I always pictured her being a regular sized golden too. I pictured her being like my bro's golden, who was probably about 70lbs.

  8. I can be a real stinker myself sometimes, so I understand, Rita. We can't just like every dog we come across right off the bat!

    1. Oh, Emma, I must admit, that makes me feel better to hear that you can be a stinker like Rita! :)

  9. It's always something I think about when I meet other bloggers! It's even worse when you have two reactive dogs meeting and they take turns lol.

    1. I was quite worried about how Rita would be, but like I said... with the older golden in our netighborhood that she likes, I was hopeful! Anyway, at least if the other dog was reactive too I wouldn't feel so bad! :)

  10. One of the things most intriguing about dogs is their total unpredictability, Seriously, isn't that one of the reasons we have them around us...the challenge of not knowing what the behavior will be on any given day.

Or do I have it all wrong?

    1. Hmm, you might be on to something. I think it's their supreme predictability mixed with a bit of unpredictability. Rita is 90% predictable - sleep, eat, play all day. But the unpredictable part of her does keep things interesting!

  11. Isn't the best when you meet someone you've been following online? I love it! I can totally relate to Rita's behavior, I have had those moments too with Harley. I feel like asking him "what's up with you?" He does much better when there is no leash. Sorry the weather shortened your plans, but happy you were able to share with so photos!

    1. Yeah, it was too bad it was cut short... but what's "elvising"? Swiveling her hips??

  17. That's so fun that you got to meet Sugar and her parents, even if everything didn't go so smoothly! Poor Rita, she's had some tough times so her behavior is understandable, and I'm sure Sugar and her family understood.
Since Sheba is our only dog that can be trusted not to act that way, I totally understand too!

    1. Yes, the poor kid has had some tough times. I know it can be hard to understand when your own dog is super sweet, but I told them about how she's been bit and we've been attacked before, so I think they understood.

  18. Rita looks more worried that you aren't going to open those treats and give her some!

  19. Have to say that I'm really surprised Rita and Sugar are about the same size. I'd have thought Sugar much larger! Laughed and shook my head about Rita's behavior. Jeffie has the same reluctance to meet strangers. Wonder how they'd do if they ever met!

    1. I wonder... Hopefully she'd be a lady! I'm assuming he's bigger than her. She's sometimes afraid (and shows 'fear aggression') to bigger dogs, but usually if they're mellow she's okay with it.

  20. Hi Y'all!

Since Rita's been attacked, and recently, I'm sure Sugar understood her reaction.

    Y'all come on by,
