For less-wordy Wednesday, I thought I'd share some photos from a little getaway trip we did last week. We went to Desert Hot Springs/Palm Springs for a few days and did three days of hiking on some of The Wildlands Conservancy trails.
One day we went to the Mission Creek Preserve:
And the other 2 days we went to White Water.
Both are great spots to hike with your dog. There's no fee to get in, and there are bathrooms and picnic tables (although you have to hike about 1.5 miles to get to them at Mission Creek), and - best of all in Rita's opinion - there are streams to plunk down in when you get hot!
She'll plunk down as soon as she gets a chance:
Here she was just kind of laying in the water:
The valley floor was covered with yellow and white blossoms.
The cactus* were blooming. (*This should probably technically say "the cacti were blooming" but that sounds weird/snooty, no?)
And there were lots of delicate, beautiful little flowers everywhere.
In most spots, the river/streams weren't running this fast, but Rita was a little worried about Daddy at this crossing.
We climbed up one of the hills the last day. It's hard to get the perspective from this shot, but next to the PoochSmooches watermark, you can see the river way down below.
This picture is kind of fun showing the cactus in the foreground and the snow capped peak in the background.
Thanks for coming along on our hike with us!
And
thanks to BlogPaws for hosting!
Just beautiful! Jason rescheduled our Palm Springs area trip that was supposed to begin tomorrow for the fall so I am glad I got to see some cactus blosoms anyways! And I love the water laying. My second husky, Katie, used to plunk herself down in water like that.
ReplyDeleteThis is our second time going there in the spring. Fall should be lovely too!
DeleteYour pictures are great!! We live in AZ and the desert flowers and cactus blooming this time of year are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice that we got a bit of rain earlier this year so the flowers could bloom. When we went a few years ago in March, there weren't nearly as many flowers!
DeleteWe would have loved to come on that hike with you all! It looks amazing, really wished we lived close to somewhere like that, the dogs would love it. Loved the pics of Rita "plunking" herself down....a girl's got to rest, wherever that may be!
ReplyDeleteShe's so funny with that - she'll just walk in and immediately lay down. :)
DeleteBeautiful and love the water along the way to cool off in!
ReplyDeleteYes, Rita thinks hikes with water are the best kind!
DeleteOh, you're making me home sick. I grew up about an hour from Palm Springs. Thanks for the pictures. People don't realize how pretty the high desert can be.
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't realize you grew up out this way. Yes, the high desert can be quite lovely!
DeleteWhat a lovely hike. Looks like Rita really enjoyed plunking herself down in the streams. I bet you felt like joining her!
ReplyDelete--Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
I was SO tempted to rip my boots off and jump in with her!
DeleteLooks lovely. And that stream looked very refreshing!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been cold because she didn't put her tummy in in some places.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of our new fave hiking spots!
DeleteLooks like you had a lovely time! Happy #WW
ReplyDeleteWe did! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLooks lovely and the stream must be a welcome addition. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly.
Yes, Rita thinks a stream (or river or whatever) is always a welcome addition to a hike!
DeleteThanks for sharing these with us. I would love to be able to take the boys hiking in such beauty as this. You are blessed!
ReplyDeleteWe are very lucky indeed! It's a little ways from our house, but not too far. We might try to start going there at least once a year each spring.
DeleteLooks like a great few days!
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice! Plus Palm Springs has lots of nice restaurants and shops so you get the best of both worlds.
DeleteThat looks like a great spot to go. I'll have to add that to my ever growing list.
ReplyDeleteyes! You'd love it there! And so would Roxy and Torrey!
DeleteWow, what gorgeous scenery and photographs. It looks like you had a wonderful time. I hope Rita didn't prick her nose on a cactus smelling those pretty flowers ;-)
ReplyDeleteHeehee - I was worried about that! She did get a bit close to a cactus at one point! (no pun intended...) But luckily most of the trails are nice and wide and she seemed to realize she should steer clear!
DeleteWhat a beautiful place!!!!! That field of flowers sigh
ReplyDeleteretro rover
It was even prettier in real life!
DeleteThat looks like it was really fun. I love going for walks. Stopping to say hello from the hop, hope you will come over

A Happy Havanese
It was really fun! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWe took this hike a couple of years ago, so thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's cool that you've been there before. I should have posted the pics of the stone cabin too - it made for a nice spot to cool off mid-way through our hike.
DeleteI loved your hike impressions! 3 days of it sure does sound like paradise to my ears :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely little getaway!
DeleteGosh its beautiful there! We won't have cactus blooms until June here.

I was afraid we'd miss the best of them here - we get them early!
Deletewhat a beautiful place(s) and pictures.
ReplyDeleteNot bad for just having my little phone, eh? But I had to delete a lot of them - I find it hard to see if the pic is good or not when you're on the fly. Then get home and look at them BIG on the computer and discover a ton of them are blurry! (It was breezy there, so a lot of my close-up attempts didn't come out!)
DeleteWonderful hiking photographs. Plus taken on the trail with your little mobile phone?
ReplyDeleteI love them. Through your photos I feel I've had a mini-vacation too.
Oh, glad to provide the mini-vaca service! (You should see ALL the photos I deleted. Taken on the trail w/ my little mobile phone wasn't the greatest idea, but it got the job done in the end!)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous hike! Beautiful wildflowers. Good thing you had a cool stream to lay in to get relief from the desert heat!
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Yes, the stream made it ideal! And at least we missed the really extreme heat. It was "only" mid-80s. My friend went to AZ over the same time and it was mid-90s there!
DeleteLovely hike. The scenery is so different from ours!
ReplyDeleteEverything's so lush and green where you are! Jealous.
DeleteBeautiful!! I love how Rita likes down in the water to cool off....Cricket does that too.
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
Very nice! Sampson plunks down in the water too, he's not much for swimming.
