Monday Mischief: Slobber-fest

Today, for Monday Mischief, I wanted to do a belated shout-out and offer some camaraderie to Jen at My Brown Newfies, who recently did a hysterical post on National Slobber Appreciation Day. As you probably guessed from her blog name, she has two Newfies who are master craftsmen in drool production.

Of course, I immediately thought of my "nephew", Leo the mastiff and shared the link with my sister-in-law. (She was very happy to learn the tip that Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are great for cleaning dried drool off walls.)

I don't actually have a picture of Leo drooling (sorry, I know you'd love to see that) but I do have one of him sleeping.
I think he's dreaming that he's a Lipizzaner Stallion.

Since reading about National Slobber Appreciation Day, I've been trying to catch a pic of Rita drooling, so we could participate in celebrating that auspicious day. Well, finally this week we got a little drool action out of our girl.

And when I say "a little," I really mean a little. Here's the pic blown up. See the drool?! She even attempted The Wrap Around!
See the droplets on her whiskers? They even go up on her cheek.

What was it that caused this deluge? Well, since we went away for Thanksgiving, we decided to order a smoked turkey so that we'd have turkey for "leftovers." (BTW, the Greenberg smoked turkey makes awesome leftovers. To me, it's a hair too salty to just eat straight, but it makes fabulous turkey chili, turkey enchiladas, turkey fricassee, turkey gumbo, turkey etouffee... well, you get the idea.)

Rita thinks every package that arrives is for her. Especially this one!
"We gotta open this thing now, Momma! It says 'Open Immediately'!"

"Momma, I would very much enjoy a taste of that turkey."

So, the other night, while we were enjoying our smoked turkey tostadas, Rita couldn't control herself and became a slobber machine. Here she is again, drooling it up.

Okay, let's blow that one up too:
You see that, right?

So, do you have a drooler? If so, you'll be all set to celebrate next year when National Slobber Appreciation Day rolls around again.

  1. Woof! Woof! I always drool for TASTY Treats. Happy MM. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  2. It was hard for me to capture my dog's drool in order to celebrate the day as well. We just couldn't get it done in time but I admire your perseverance!

  3. I bet Leo is a champion slobber dog! Thanks for joining in the slobber fun, Rita made an awesome attempt and I think she really has the potential to be a great drooler! lol!
(I hope your sister enjoys the magic erasers as much as I do:)

  4. Jeepers! that smoked turkey has got me drooling! I had a good laugh over Rita's "drool". I have to do what I call drool patrol everyday at our house cause when these hound shake the drool does fly! LOL!

  5. I don't have slobber dogs, thank goodness. The smoked turkey sounds YUM.

  6. All I needed to see was the word "slobber" and I knew that funny-boy Leo was involved! He's a champ at this.

  7. Hi Rita! Rugby can't get that much drool! Slobber is not his strong suit! We congratulate you! :-p

  8. I had no idea there was such a day!!! I can't wait for next year so we can celebrate!!! I know just the right food to get my Coop to drool....cheese! He is a sucker for it:) happy mm!!!

  9. turkey chili, turkey enchiladas, turkey fricassee, turkey gumbo, turkey etouffee… how about turkey Doggie Food just for Rita? Did you get any leftovers buddy?

I drool about as much, maybe less than Rita, no need for magic markers around here… :)

    I hope you're having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  10. Thanks for stopping by! We love a good 'ole slobber fest!

  11. Hey Rita, Jet here. Hi Miss Jackie.

Such a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

We love Leroy and Sherman. All in all, we're tidy K9s, although every now and then, if I'm outside a while, I may foam a little. Inside, Little Miss Sloppy Water Drinker, swings water from her droopy jowls a little. I'm not sure that qualifies as official slobber, though. :)

Rita, we think you're quite dainty... Mom could barely see anything, even in the bigified version! (bigified borrowed from my Best Feline Friend, BFF, Savannah, from Savannah's Paw Tracks. :)

We love comments - even just a smiley face or a LOL will make my day. (Yes, my days are pretty easily made.)
