A Pup & A Plant, Part Deux

Last month I posted about how I exercise my brain while Rita and I are out on our walks with my Instagram "A Pup and A Plant Series." On our walks, I try to remember plant names, then I take a photo of Rita next to the plant, and then attempt a little word-play for the caption.

I originally thought I could keep this going for maybe a week to 10 days, but I've managed to think up quite a few of them, so figured I'd share another batch here.

An African iris & an American princess. #sospoiled

Morning glory groundcover and my girly brown Rover. #weak?

My love behind an olive (tree).

A hedge of natal plums & a girl w/ no thumbs.

A phormium & my furry chum.

Suffering the "burn" as we pass this sword fern. #OurHoodIsHilly!!#CardioWithTheDog

Australian tea tree & an Aussie-mix cutie. #HadHerDNATested

Un agave con mi amore. #PossiblyButcheredThatItalian

"Beeblossom" with Rita, who's awesome!

Bamboo & our boo who has no clue she's about to be shampooed #bathtime

(And then of course I had to later post a pic of the sad puppy in the tub...)

A basic pine and a super-fine canine. #shessofine

Our fur kid, suspicious of our new orchid. #wefearchange

I have a bunch more, plus some I've thought of but haven't been able to find the exact plant, or haven't been able to get Rita to pose by it, or ... the other day she took a squat in front of a loquat, but I just wasn't quick enough to get that shot. :)

The blog will be "dark" the next 2 weeks, for a little enjoy-the-end-of-summer break.

When I get back, I should be able to share the cover for my new book! I hope you guys will love it!

    1. I don't always know them off the top of my head. Sometimes I have to try to search "bush with purple leaves" or whatnot, or I text a photo to my sis and ask if she knows.

    1. Sometimes I have to research them. I know a few - but my sis really knows a ton! Sometimes i text her for ideas.

  8. These are really neat photos and a clever idea! I can't believe how much your dog resembles my sister's dog--only darker. Her dog was a stray and is a mixed breed. They know she has German Shepherd but aren't sure what else.

    Thanks for sharing this series!

    1. That's so funny about your sis's dog, but I'm not surprised. I also know of another dog that RIta looks like. We had her DNA tested and she's mostly German and Aussie shepherd mixed with dog-knows-what.

    1. An ebook would be fun. :) Or one of my IG friends said she wished they were on like baseball cards.

  13. Morning Glory is not #weak! It reminds me of a vocal exercise that a singer would go through before a performance!

Sad dog baths happen all too often at my house. Dexter is a shihtzu/terrier who can't decide if he wants to sit on a a pillow all day (literally) to keep his paws clean, or chase things through a muddy backyard!

The word play and research are a great mental activity to keep you sharp!

    1. Hehe. It is sort of like a vocal exercise. Hadn't thought of that. Will have to try to come up with more tongue twisters. That's funny about your Dexter. (Rita hadn't had a real bath in ages! She sometimes gets sand from the beach rinsed offf with the hose, but a real bath... oh, man, it had been months and months!)

  15. Those are all really good. For the agave, I expected spanish (which is close enough to italian - con mi amor).
