Exercise For My Brain While We Exercise On Our Walks

I've been doing this thing over on Instagram. If we're connected there, you will possibly have already seen it. I call it "A Pup and A Plant Series." On our walks, I try to remember plant names, then I take a photo of Rita next to the plant, and try to do a little word-play caption.

I've done quite a few, so here are a chunk of them.

Rita and red roses.

A grrrl and an agapanthus

A doggy and some daisies.

A mantija poppy and a mostly-good puppy.

A blue fescue and a cute rescue.

Calandrinia spectabilis succulent & a Californian spectacular shepherd-mix. #thayitwithalithp

A lantana and a Latina (diddya know Rita's from Mexico?)

A hibiscus and a high biscuit.

A bougainvillea & my beautiful Rita!

Pampas grass & a pampered lass.

An oleander with my lil meanderer. #lame? (They can't all be winners, people!)

This status update brought to u by a statice plant & a stately pup.

Dusty miller & a stone-cold killer. (Confirmed kills: several gophers, 1 mouse, 1 squirrel, countless bugs) #dontletthesmilefoolyou

As you can see, they started off pretty simple, but after a while you really have to start working the ol' brain to come up with something new (or to remember the plant names! Cuz I have CRS*!)

I have a bunch more that I've already done on IG and some waiting in the wings. And some ideas where I still need to find the plant so I can take a photo! It's definitely good exercise for my brain while we're out getting our exercise!

Rita's been a trouper through it all!

Can you think of any plants - fitting captions - I could throw into the rotation?

  1. We would fail miserably as Mom doesn't know many plant names at all. Cool idea, though!

    1. Thanks! I don't know tons of plants, but I know a good number. Sometimes I have to text a pic to my sis and say "What's this??" And hope I can come up with a caption for it! (She's really good with plant names!)

  2. WOW! This makes my Wordless Wednesdays look like a kindergarten game! I am so impressed! I'll have to think on it after my coffee. My brain is too sleepy right now!

    1. It's the sheer number of WW posts you've done though... I mean, that's just amazing! Every week I think "Will this be the week when Wilson runs out of WW posts?" (Hey that could be one...) But you seem to have an endless supply! (And agreed - can't think pre-coffee.)

  3. What a cool thing to do. I know almost nothing about plants so I'd totally be lost. I really love looking at the pictures of Rita though. I think I like the Calandrinia spectabilis succulent one best. Rita looks so dreamy in that one.

    1. I can't decide which one I like best. The "stone cold killer" is my fave caption, but I love the photo on the statice plant one because I'd already decided on the caption I wanted before taking the photo, and I couldn't believe that she struck the perfect "stately" pose.

  4. All of them are great but my favorite caption is the last one, dusty miller & a stone-cold killer (Then you have a list of things she has killed). I had to laugh out loud at that one when I saw it on IG :D

  9. I've seen some of these, what fun! That's my problem with exercise - it can be boring and I need my brain to be engaged. What a great way to do that. I'll try to think of one when I'm on my next walk! :)

    1. Yes, sometimes I get bored too! I used to listen to music when I walked Abby, but I can't do that with Rita since she's reactive to certain things - need to keep my ears open!

  10. Well, mom enjoys looking at all the different plants and pretty gardens people have, and there's the park so lots of pictures with me and plants. Problem is she has no idea what they are called! Love Dolly

  14. What a great idea to do that! That's a fun way to see & learn about beautiful plants & explore the neighborhood. I bet Rita is having just as much fun as you are. Bessie, my minion Basset would love to go walking with Rita. Mew Mew!

    1. Rita does seem to enjoy it - as long as I don't make her pose tooooo much. :) But she gets compensated with treats so I think she's even okay with that!

    1. haha. Yes, she has a list. I fear the neighbor's cat might be on the list... so need to keep them apart! (Actually - she'd probably like to think the cat is on the list, but once the cat turned and hissed at Rita, and Rita screamed like a little girl, and it literally echoed down our canyon. So embarrassing.)
