Rita and Her BFF and a Classic Work of American Art

Rita has a buddy that we try to meet up with once a week for play/a walk. She's a boxer named Dakota.

She is a little nutty high-energy.

Trying to get a good picture of the two of them together is not easy.

This shot is very "we all have that one friend..."

Dakota is a kisser. Big-time! But Rita doesn't always want kisses.

But she tolerates them because she loves her friend/

Even more than kissing, Dakota loves her Frisbee. (Notice Rita being ignored in the background...)

Finally got a semi-decent pic of them together...

...although... is it just me? Do they look a little like the couple in American Gothic?

Only Dakota and Rita are concerned about treats, not the farm.

Does your dog have a BFF?

  1. My sisters are their own BFF's, and they also have tons of friends in the neighborhood. I prefer to be more on my own.

    1. That's nice that they're such good friends. And nice that you like to be on your own. It's good you don't feel left out of the fun. Rita is mostly a loner, but she does have a coupla friends.

  3. They are very American Gothic. It is definitely hard to get good photos of boxers as almost all of them are a little nutty. Our 3rd boxer, Cooper, had a girlfriend who lived a block over. She was a basset hound named Susie and she was in love with him. They would visit and bump noses when we took him for a walk and they even exchanged Valentine and Christmas gifts. Cooper has passed but we still see still Susie from time to time. In fact, her mom says her abominable snowman Cooper gave her one Christmas is still her favorite toy.

Rita does not look overly amused at times :)

    1. Oh, that's such a sweet story! Rita has a Dalmatian in the 'hood that she has a crush on - she's never met him but they whine and wag their tails at each other through the fence.

  4. My dogs have each other and have a little cliche that can be dickheads to other dogs.

    1. Funny how dogs can be like that. People say to 'be more dog" - but dogs can be jerks sometimes! :)

  5. LOVE the comparison! My dog Ginger tries so hard to be best friends with our other dog Bear. But Ginger is a bit too much in your face and get pushy and Bear wants nothing to do with that. He just ignores her and walks away :)

    1. Oh, poor Ginger's looking for a buddy! Our angel Abby was like that with my 'nephew' Lou who we would often dog-sit. She wanted to play/be buds SO bad, but he was older and not into it. Since he was a corgi, he could go hide under the vanity in the bathroom. :)

  6. Oh Yes! Mabel favorite friend is her cousin Willow, my sons miniature schnauzer. How how they love to chase each other and wrestle when they get together

    1. Oh, that's so nice that they're friends. And I know Willow came to help dog-sit so that must have been perfect!

    1. If only Dakota was on the right instead since she's the taller one. And if only I could have gotten her to hold a pitchfork.

  8. Right now - the Boys rely on each other as BFF's - they're not around many other dogs lately.

    1. Riat's not around too many other dogs either. Some dogs she just doesn't like, so I have to try to limit her exposure to them - but some (like Dakota and Reg) she loves!

    1. Dakota gets pretty fresh with me too! And man.... that tongue is huge! If I bend down to tie my shoe or something, she's all over me with that gigantic tongue!

  10. In my collies, the smooth girls have picked out best friends. But Ryder, the only rough and the only boy, prefers either myself or my daughter.

Rita has a sweet face, she has a worry line that makes her look concerned!

    1. Yes... she's like her momma. We both have the worry lines. :)

  11. Well, if I'd read this before I saw your FB post I'd have known Dakota is a girl! Such cute photos! Rudy's best friend is Skeeter. Rosie's best friend... I think it is her bed!

    1. Aww, that's sweet that Rudy and Skeeter are besties. And I like the way Rosie thinks. :)

    1. That tongue of Dakota's is pretty crazy. Huge and curled - and very sloppy when she's coming at you for kissing!

    1. Your sister's one dog reminds me so much of Rita! Sometimes when she posts pics of just her face, I have to pause for a second and think "How'd she get that pic of my dog??" :)

  14. Love that comparison!! They are definitely a cute couple. Our crew just have each other now. Back when my sister used to visit with her dogs, Cricket would always neglect her company in favor of a ball!

  15. Rita and Dakota are so cute together! That last photo of them is just perfect - frame it! My Husky Icy had a BFF next door, Cooper, but we think he is moving away this Summer and we're all very sad. We love him.

  16. My dogs are each other's BFFs. They get too territorial with the other neighborhood dogs, sadly. Grrrrr. I wish they would all get along. We have a boxer next door. The three of the "fence fight". It's awful. Boooo. I'm jealous! I can always count on you to make me LOL with your photos, though!

  18. You're comparison to American Gothic made me laugh. The dogs do look rather stoic. And I don't blame Rita for not wanting kisses from that big boxer mug.

  19. Love these pics! Dakota is adorable, and spunky. And Rita looks as if she wants to roll her eyes in some of the photos, hee, hee. Dogs need friends. Maybe that sounds silly but they're pack animals and need to be around others of their kind. Seriously's best friend is Peka, a high-energy husky with a naughty streak. They have a blast together. We take them running and they just go crazy out on the trails. Fun times. P.S. Love the American Gothic reference. Too, too funny.
