Nope. Our girl would never do that. Siriously, never.
She won't even eat one breadstick.
Here is a (not very good) picture of her enjoying a bite of a breadstick.
But she won't eat a whole one.
The hubs noticed this one day when he offered her an entire breadstick. (He thought she'd just nibble off the end, and then he'd eat the rest and save her the last bite.) When he offered it to her, she looked away, disgusted.
"Daddy, no! I would never. Why would you think I would eat a whole breadstick?!"
I caught it on (an 11 second) video the other day...
Here she is happily accepting one small bite (5 sec video):
She's so odd! Wouldn't any other dog just grab the breadstick and run with it??
I know she shouldn't eat a whole breadstick, so it really is a good thing that she won't accept one. But it's odd, no? I mean, if she WOULD take the whole thing, I'd never offer it to her, but because she won't take it, we do sometimes offer her one. Just to see. But she never changes her mind. Funny girl.
Does your dog do peculiar things you can't explain?

LOL! Yeah, I think most dogs would take the breadstick and run! Too funny.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. Our girl is pretty unique!
DeleteI suspect this is one thing Jeffie loves about Rita: she is a lady. A lady with excellent manners! (However, I suspect if Jeffie was offered a breadstick, after examining it thoroughly, he would happily accept. My three dogs love bread and crackers!)
ReplyDeleteWell, in truth she only has excellent manners when she's with her family. Her manners are terrible when "strangers" come over! This is why we say "she's MOSTLY a very good girl!" As for bread and crackers in general, she will only eat that sort of thing if there's nothing better around. If I"m having crackers, she wants a little bite. If I'm having crackers and CHEESE, she spits out the bite of cracker I offer her.
DeleteMy 3 know that crackers are an excellent carrier of something very good :-)
DeleteWell that is a bit odd it would never ever happen with Bob our our pugs. Norbert when he was alive did turn his nose up at bisquick pancakes but LOVED home made ones
ReplyDeleteretro rover
That's so funny. It reminds me of our beagle who would refuse to eat microwave popcorn (refuse!) but loved the homemade kind. We realized she was on to something and haven't eaten the microwave kind in like over a decade!
DeleteMaybe she is watching her food intake. I think Torrey would be all about the whole bread stick though.
ReplyDeleteThat must be it! :)
DeleteI can just see how Indy would have taken that. She would have been a little snorty and quivery as she waited to get her lips on it. Rita is nutty!
ReplyDeleteHeeehee. I can see Indy being all snorty and quivery too. Cute. (Rita IS nutty!)
DeleteShe may be concerned with empty calories and not wanting to waste calories on non-bacon smelling food.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be it, right?
DeleteAlthough... I bet if I broke the entire thing into pieces, and offered her the pieces one by one, she'd eat the whole thing that way!
DeleteLikely all members of the pack would take it and it'd be gone! Probably even the cats would want a taste too.
ReplyDeleteUsually when I post something "weird" that she does, some other folks will say their dog does it too. But I think she's going to be alone in this one!
DeleteRita is so sweet and mannerly! Haley would give me the look as if she was asking "Really? I can have the whole thing?" She would ask permission, but if granted, the whole thing would be gone, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's nice that she asks permission! She sounds sweet.
DeleteLOL Kilo I don't think would ever turn it down.
ReplyDeletePugs know what's what!
DeletePugs rarely turn down anything!

Mr Bailey, Hazel & Mabel
lol! Yes, as I just said in my last reply - pugs know what's what!
DeleteI've never seen a breadstick and don't know what one is. But if someone held out something like that to me I'd grab it and run. Silly dog. Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteif anyone ever offers you one, you should definitely run with it, Dolly!
DeleteShe is too cute! Maybe she doesn't like the texture? I don't know, I've never seen a breadstick I didn't like! LOL
ReplyDeleteMe either! :) And these ones are especially good - just a touch of sea salt! We enjoy them with a cocktail on the weekends. :)
DeleteI love her look when you offer here the whole breadstick...I get the same look when I offer the girls fruits or veggies. Like we're trying to poison them or something...LOL. I'm pretty sure all of mine would take a whole breadstick though!
ReplyDeleteI love Rita's little quirks....they are adorable.
Jan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
I get that look from her a lot - every time I offer her a veggie or piece of fruit!
DeleteMr. N doesn't normally do carbs lol. One time I offered him a sweet potato and he was insistent that I cut it up for him before he would eat it.
ReplyDeleteFunny. Sweet potatoes are one of the few veggies she likes - but I do only offer small bites. :)
DeleteA girl has to have her standards!
ReplyDeleteShe certainly does! And I guess this girl wants to keep her girlish figure too!
DeleteRiley once snatched an entire biscuit out of my hand, but then just laid down on the floor and stared at it like he didn't understand what it was. Only after I broke it up for him would he eat it. Maybe they just want to have more manageable bites to eat? ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm pretty sure if I broke the thing up she'd eat it all. I guess she's just dainty! :)
DeleteI'm funny like that myself. I don't like new things right off the bat and often refuse them, or spit them across the room, but sometimes I do try them. My sisters munch everything right down.
ReplyDeleteRita is the same, often spitting things out, but if I offer it a second time and coax her she'll try it and like it.
DeleteHA! She's got standards....
ReplyDeleteVery strict standards! :)
Deleteoh my gosh she is so silly, yes mine would grab the whole thing and run.
ReplyDeleteShe is SO silly. Some might say crazy....
DeleteLol... we had a dog who wouldn't eat any people food unless we assured her it was OK. But I think that was just because she was well behaved and knew she wasn't supposed to eat it. Seems like Rita disapproves of the shape of the stick. Food is not supposed to look like that! lol!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny. Yeah, maybe that's what Rita's thinking. Although... the shape is not that much different from a pizzle, and she will greedily accept one of those!
DeleteRita is obviously not a 90 pound British black lab (okay, he's a 100 pounds)! That breadstick and possibly the fingers holding it would be gonners!
ReplyDeleteLol. Oh, no. She's much too dainty for that! :)
DeleteThat is cute. Freighter would take it, but then put it on the floor to inspect it.
