Follow-Up Friday: Dog Breeds & Dog Books

It's Follow-Up Friday - time to catch up on the news and answer those burning questions.

It's been a busy week, with Rescue Me, Maybe officially launching this past Monday. Boy, you think writing a book is the hard part... but the work has really only just begun once it's published! Anyway, let's get to the followin' up.

Pledge Post
On Wednesday, I shared photos of our angels lost to cancer and pledged part of the profits on the book to Morris Animal Foundation. Lots of folks had really sweet comments, and I was especially touched by the other folks who have also lost furry friends to cancer. There's too many of us in the club. Hopefully that will change one of these days.

On a more fun note, Jan of Wag N Woof Pets added to her comment, "It looks like your family has a thing for beagles and goldens too!" We did have a lot of beagles in the family (4) and goldens (2) over the years. Right now, we've only got 1/2 a beagle! (Rita) Such fun breeds - as Jan knows with 2 beagles and 1 golden.

Organic Designer Dog Breeds
In my post on Unique Breeds, there were some fun comments.

Roxy the Traveling Dog said "Someone told me just the other day that Roxy is a poma-huahua. A true one of a kind, BOL." Roxy is the cutest poma-huahua you'll ever see!

My sis said that her dog, Indy, "is lab + bad attitude = Labrabad." Or maybe a BadLabratude.

Pam of Words With Wieners said, "I think Rita's gorgeous(!), [ed. note: so do I!] and she is definitely her own unique breed." The funny thing is that we've seen a couple of dogs that look a LOT like Rita at the beach here. One dog could have been her sister! The others were also adopted from Mexico. I even had a woman walk up to us once and say, "Did you get her from Mexico? She's got that look..." So, apparently there are a lotta sheagles running around in Mexico!

Kat of Us on Cloud 9 said that her Beamer, who I adore cuz he's SO cute, is "a one of a kid Germador Sheptriever." Heee.

In Other News...
Flea of Jones Natural Chews is having a giveaway of my book. And she wrote a really nice review of the book as well! Stop by and leave a comment to enter. Thanks, Flea!!

Also today, I'm going to be on Clippings in the Shed, hosted by my lovely author pal, Francine LaSala. Stop by to see our "Five for Friday" Q&A and her fun bonus question where she asked what breed of dog I'd be. :) You can also check out an excerpt from Rescue Me, Maybe there.

Thank you to host Jodi from Heart Like a Dog and this week's co-host 2 Brown Dawgs

  3. Hi Jackie, thanks for joining the blog hop. Sampson is a Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever we call him a Golden Lab but maybe a Labofgold is better? He's a real sweetie. :-)

Do they call the dogs from Mexico anything in particular? I know they call the Puerto Rican street dogs, Satos.

I'm really looking forward to reading your book and can't wait for it to arrive!!

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Wait. More dogs like Rita? Sheagles abound in Mexico? I see dog smuggling in my future.
Great interview at Clippings in the Shed! Made me look forward to your books arriving even more!

  6. So Rita isn't that unique after all then, though we might have to go to Mexico to find that particular Sheagle breed? I'm thinking searching for one on Petfinder might not work. :)
Great follow up, thanks for mentioning my comment too! I once saw some golden/beagle mix puppies, and they were pretty darn cute!

  8. Nice follow up! Finally broke down, joined the modern world and got a Kindle. It arrived yesterday and your books were the first I purchased. Looking forward to some reading later today :-) Hmmm... would Jeffie be a Border Retriever? A Golden Border? Maybe just a Goldie? I like that!

    1. Just read your (great) interview and had to say more. Read the excerpt and... I've lived through a scene so much like that one that it's as if you read my mind. Mine, though, was about my mother's ashes and the breakfast was with her brother and his wife. Yours rang so, so true! I don't know if anything like this has actually happened to you, but, if not, you have an amazing muse.

  12. That is so cool that you pledged part of the profits to the Morris Animal Foundation. We had a Lab that had liver cancer. I had never had a dog with cancer before. It is hard to lose a dog no matter what, but losing her to cancer was especially hard. Thank you for your nice comment about the loss of Phe. Losing her was rather difficult too:(

  14. Hey Rita

    I didn't realize you were so much Beagle! :) I think I'm a Beardie/Mischief mix! :)

We love comments - even just a smiley face or a LOL will make my day. (Yes, my days are pretty easily made.)
