Follow-Up Friday: Replies, Awards, Suggestions & Wooly Balls

It's the Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend! Come on, weekend!

The End of K9 Kamp?: A Reply & an Award!
Taryn of Tail of Two Cardis commented: "You and Rita probably live in one of the best spots ever for walking a lot! Your area is just so gorgeous!"

We really are lucky. San Diego - especially near the coast - is pretty perfect for walking. It rarely gets too hot; it's never too cold; there's no ice in winter, no bugs in summer, etc. One of these days soon I'm going to do a post with lots of pics from one of our fave walks.

In other K9 Kamp follow-up news... Rita got an award!
The Lion-Hearted Award was bestowed upon Rita along with these nice words: "Walking not only was good fitness, but at times it took courage, especially with stick-wielding menaces on the beach. But Rita showed exemplary bravery!" (If you missed our "stick-wielding menaces" story, you can read it here.)

Thanks again to Peggy's Pet Place and Kol's Notes for the fun time at Kamp and the award!

Were Our Bunnies Robbed?: Wooly Balls Stuff
Pam from Words with Weiners commented, "...when else in life will you get to say that you were bested by wooly balls?" Pam also suggested I need to just let go of the wooly balls. :)

Snoopy from Snoopy's Dog Blog asked, "Do you think maybe it was a complete balls up? Tee Hee." Good one, Snoop.

Anyway, wooly ball jokes aside, I wanted to state (as I did in some of the comment replies) that I think making 16 uniform balls is probably harder than making 3 (super adorable) bunnies. So, on technique and being true to the theme, she definitely earned her 2nd place ribbon. I'm just funnin' with her, wherever she is out there.

Operation Tired Puppy: A Suggestion
Flea of Jones Natural Chews said, "OMD - you could highlight little Reggie here EVERY DAY. He is so CUUUUUTE! WANT." To which Pooch Smooches' very own Rita replied, "Hey now... let's not get crazy with this thing..."

My sis (Reggie's mom, signing off as "Tired puppy owner") said that they "don't want to infringe on Rita's blog territory. We do, however, feel strongly that Reggie could be a regular for the MONDAY MISCHIEF section." Since Rita doesn't get into too much mischief, we might have to feature Reg there a time or two. And since my sis doesn't blog (yet??), Reggie fans will have to get their fix here - occasionally.

For all you Reg fans, here's another pic of him...

I Whip My Ears Back & Forth: Another Rendition & A Warning
Kathy from K2K9 alerted me to a rendition of Whip My Hair with Jimmy Fallon as Neil Young (I love a good impersonation and he's pretty darned perfect) along with Bruce Springsteen. Thank you, Kathy! (Check it out here.) I especially want to thank you because I'd much rather have this version stuck in my head than the original!

Jodi from Heart Like a Dog mentioned in her comment that she finished reading my novel, What the Dog Ate, and loaned it to her mom. That is super sweet. But I do worry when folks tell me they are giving/loaning/buying it for their mothers. I always picture a sweet little gray-haired lady sitting bolt-upright when she gets to the occasional swear-word in the book. (I swear - no pun intended - that they are not gratuitous and few and far between!) I usually say the same thing I wrote in the copy I gave to my mom: "Please close your eyes when you get to the bad words."

We received a Versatile Blogger award from Hawk. Check out Hawk on his Brown Dog CBR blog. He's a very handsome boy!
Thanks, Hawk! We love the company we are in with this award. :)

That's it for Follow-Up Friday. Thanks to Jodi from Heart Like a Dog and this week's co-host JoAnn from Sand Spring Chesapeakes.

  2. Hey Jackie,

Thanks for joining the blog hop, you had a great recap here. From reading your book it seems you and I have some similarities in the humor department. From you reading my blog and facebook page you should know that I'm what some might call "colorful" I swear in real life. A Lot. And I learned it all at my Mama's knee. ;-) no worries about her getting offended or stumbling over a word. LOL

You asked a question on my blog about what I stuff the dogs bones with. Usually it is pumpkin alone or any variation of the following: yogurt, fruit, cottage cheese...etc. If you want specifics on how I do it, check out some of the Tasty Tuesday posts, I'm super lazy when it comes to making treats for the pups. :-)

I've been to San Diego once and it was hot as blue blazes (they told me not typical weather) but I really do like the idea of no bugs.

    Have a great weekend!!

    1. I swear IRL too - but my mom doesn't! She thinks the F-word is "Fine!" I'm glad to hear she won't be shocked!

Cool - thanks for the 411 on what to stuff them with. I'm super lazy too - so this is right up my ally!

It does sometimes get blazing-hot here (supposed to this weekend) and it can be really hot just a little ways inland, but it *normally* stays nice, and not too humid by the beach.

    1. Heehee. So glad you are enjoying the book the whole way through! Fabulous!

I confess I don't use a reader. I guess I should. I just remember the blogs I like and go to their sites. I need to get a reader - but confess I don't really know how they work. Not sure how to get started. Another thing for me to look up and learn!

  6. Been to San Diego... heaven! Congrats on your awards! Love Reggie, but kinda see Rita's point ;-)
I try very hard not to swear... it upsets the dogs. 99% of the time my swearing is computer related. The dogs can be at the other end of the house and I could say sh*t under my breath. Dogs come flying in to comfort me. Jeffie on one side with a paw on my thigh; Rudy on the other leaning his head against me. Dogs. How do people live without them?

    1. That is so sweet that they come running to comfort you! Awwww.

Yes, there's been some computer-related swearing around here lately since my laptop died recently!

  7. Congratulations on your award! It is well deserved. We just love Reggie...it would be nice to have a puppy guest post every once in while. I bet he can get into a lot of funny mischief.

  8. LOL! Mom and I are laughing about your thought on grammas reading your book! My mom says Gramma never used a 4 letter word until she was a Gramma! You never know what those little old ladies are up to! Congrats on the awards!

    1. That's so funny about Gramma. When you get to be a gramma's age, I say do whatever you want! I plan to eat ice cream for breakfast!

  9. I still get mad when I think about that guy on the beach! We were driving home from buying new bikes the other night and some woman was driving 10 miles an hour below the speed limit in the fast lane on the freeway and my hubby was tailing her a little bit trying to get her to move over and she started flipping us off, so he tried to go around her and she tried to run us off the road!! Then once we got past her she sped up and tried to do it again - I really don't understand why people are so ANGRY!! 10 miles later when she exited the freeway, she was still flipping us off - classy, right?

Congrats on your award. I have your book on my iPad and I can't wait to read it next month while I'm on vacation!!

Have a great weekend - I know it's supposed to be a hot one!!

    1. That is crazy about that woman in the car. Very classy. And, yes, people are super close to rage - and especially in their cars! Not good since they are flying along in 2-ton steel boxes.

Hooray about the book! It's a fun vacation read. I hope you'll enjoy it!
