Rita generally doesn't like to be brushed, so when Daddy came at her with the brush** this weekend, she went belly up.
|
Ugh. You try to get a little shut-eye in the sun. But no.... |
|
Must we do this now, Daddy? |
|
Will this thwart your efforts, Daddy? |
It kinda looks like she was enjoying it.
|
Maybe this is kinda relaxing after all... |
Or was she just tolerating it?
|
Changed my mind. Please make it stop. |
Does your dog like to be brushed? Is it a spa treatment or torture?
** Just thought I'd mention - we use a
"shedding blade" that we got for about $4 or $5 in the horse section of a pet supply store probably like 15 years ago. To my mind, it works just as well as a furminator, but at a mere fraction of the cost.
Happy Wordless Wednesday! (This was
super wordless for me!)
Getting brushed in the sun doesn't sound so bad :)
ReplyDeleteI know - I'd like that treatment myself!
DeleteIt's work to keep up all that beauty! Kelly hates it too, and she has all that long hair. The top part always is nice and silky but the bottom part gets curly and tangly. She tolerates a brushing only for so long then runs away.
ReplyDeleteRita only tolerates it for so long as well. We got her this time after she was already pooped from going to the beach!
DeleteI think they probably like being brushed but try to make it seem as if they are doing us a favor by allowing it.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Yes, just milking us for more treats.
DeleteJimmy seems to like it depending on which brush I use. Wilson would prefer it if I buggered off!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she wouldn't mind if I tried a different brush? But that horsey one is super effective for getting at the undercoat! She'll just have to tough it out.
DeleteHey if you relax long enough you get treats Rita! Don't forget!
ReplyDeleteTrue - treats make anything bearable.
DeleteWoof! Woof! WHAT? I LOVE to get brushed. I get brushed everyday. It feels good and love it. Maybe you need to a different brush. Believe it or not mom uses a small/shorter brush. Happy WW. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteMaybe a different brush would help - but she doesn't like to be rubbed down either. (Our last pup loved a good towel rub after we got back from the beach.) She's just not much of a one for being "handled."
DeleteYes Rita as long as you get treats no sweat. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
She definitely knows how to milk The Daddy for treats!
DeleteI will tolerate being brushed for a bit and then I run away. It's nice, but when the undercoat is tangled, I just don't like it one bit.

Tangles are no fun! At least Rita's fur isn't long enough to get tangled.
DeleteWe're lucky our guys have short hair, so they don't really get brushed. They do like massages though, so they might tolerate a brushing or two! Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll have to try massages on Rita - if she liked that maybe she'd learn to like the brushing!
DeleteWe get treats after being brushed, so we like it OK. It's more of an event for Torrey with her thick aussie coat. Might have to look into the horse brush.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I imagine Torrey would be a lot of work to brush - esp'y after seeing those pictures today of her oh-so-fluffy under-carriage!
DeleteGreat pictures! Love the captions too. Luna doesn't necessarily hate getting brushed... she just tries to eat it. When I can can hold her down long enough, she actually kind of enjoys it too.
ReplyDeleteJessica from Beagles and Bargains
Funny that she tries to eat it! What a nut. :)
DeleteCali does not enjoy being brushed :( Rita looks pretty relaxed!
ReplyDeleteNormally she just stands there looking very pained! I think she looks relaxed cuz this is after wearing her butt out at the beach!
DeleteMost of our dogs love to be brushed but a few didn't much care for it. We used a vacuum on Becca and she loved that vs. the brush.
ReplyDeleteOh, I wish I could use a vacuum on her! She'd be terrified of that though. But it would be awesome to brush/de-hairify/clean up all at once!
DeleteFinn has long curly hair, so it's always got knots in it (and also food on his ears, since they dangle in his dish). Brushing is not his favorite!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's no fun. Food on the ears is good though - he can suck on them later.
DeleteI knew of a woman who would put her pup's ears up in a scrunchy when he ate so he wouldn't get food on them!
Humm, we will certainly be looking into buying one of those! Thanks! Hugs Rita...it's over now...relax and enjoy your sun! :)
ReplyDeleteThey're really good for getting your undercoat. Do you shed much, Max? You don't look like you'd be much of a shedder!
DeleteLOL! I think she enjoyed it after hating it. She looked like "Really? Now?" and then she looked like "Ahhhh!!!"
ReplyDeleteJasper and Cupcake hate to be brushed. Daisy is afraid of it, but usually likes it once we get started. Nick, my cat, LOVES it. :)
I think she resigned herself to it. She was too tired to put up a fuss!
DeleteWe've used an equine shedding blade for years (we have horses, too) and love it! Jeffie puts up with brushing; Rudy loves it. Rosie tries to horn in just because there's some kind of "action" going on ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe're so glad we discovered the shedding blade. We know nuthin' 'bout horses, but a friend long ago introduced us to them.
DeleteOMG Dakota ADORES being brushed. He is so vain, he would stand there for HOURS if we wanted to brush him that long lol
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny. He has so much hair - I bet you could brush him for hours!
DeleteBut Rita if you let them know you like it, you don't get any treats afterwards, right?! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to go on my grooming table when it's time to be brushed and it takes between 1 and 2 hours every week - Mum also sneaks in some mini sessions without the table in between! I don't mind it unless she gets to a knotty bit, then I put up my paw to ask her to stop :)
Afterwards I always get a Dentastix - Yay! :)
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy :)
It's good that you have trained your Mum to stop when you put the paw up. "Talk to the paw, Mum."
DeletePatches LOVES a good brushing. She trots right over when I break out the undercoat rake (also as good as any defurmination and only about five bucks). Flash I have to brush first and hold in place, since his bones turn to jelly and he drops to the ground, like Rita. I get that. My very ADD self can't stand to be touched. All dogs are ADD. Makes perfect sense. Sensory issues.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the sensory issues. I wonder if that relates to how those thunder shirts work? Been thinking of getting one of those to try on Rita.
