Celebrating the Print Version: Enter the Giveaway!

I briefly mentioned the other day that the paperback version of WHAT THE DOG ATE is now available! Hooray! I can hold my book in my hot little hands. (And now you can too! Links for purchasing are at the end of the post.) So, I'm doing two things to celebrate:

Donating proceeds
I've committed to donating 10% of the proceeds of all print sales for the rest of this year to Best Friends Animal Society. I had a hard time deciding who to choose, but decided on Best Friends because I admire what they do (I'd love to visit them some day!) and love their mission: "To bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets." I can't even imagine that - what would it be like if there were no dogs and cats to rescue?? Wouldn't it be wonderful?

So, if you buy the book in print, know that part of the money will go to help animals in need. And we're not just talking dogs and cats here! No - you'll be helping chickens, ducks, goats, horses, parrots, pigs, pigeons (adopt a pigeon??), rabbits, sheep, and one burro and one mule. (Someday I would love to have a burro or a donkey! But that's probably not going to happen in my lifetime...). Burros... those are asses right? So, buy my book and save an ass!

A Giveaway
The other thing I'm doing to celebrate is giving away a goodie bag to one lucky winner!

Here's what you could win:
1.  A signed copy of WHAT THE DOG ATE!

2. "Smooches" dog treats from The Honest Kitchen
I'm so excited that The Honest Kitchen folks are providing these treats (and the next item!) for the giveaway! We recently won a sample pack of some of their food and treats (and Rita loves it all). That's when I found out they are based in San Diego. Since I am too, and since my book is also set in San Diego, I thought their treats would be a perfect tie-in. Not to mention the name, Smooches, goes perfectly with my Pooch Smooches blog! I pitched the idea to them and they not only generously provided the Smooches, they sent along item #3 as well! The Honest Kitchen rocks!
So, in keeping with the "what the dog ate" theme - this is what your dog will eat if you win: handmade cookies, made with all human grade ingredients and "an extra helping of love." Each treat is "individually crafted" into a little heart. How cute is that? And each one has only 2.3 calories. (I wish someone would make a tasty human cookie that's only 2.3 calories! That's like less than 2 TicTacs!) They contain: 100% human grade barley flour, USDA chicken, molasses, filtered water, eggs, organic virgin coconut oil, cranberries, aged parmesan cheese - with nothing artificial.
They're heart shaped! So cute. (See Rita lurking??)
She LOVES them! Look at the lust in her eyes...
 3. The MADE OUT OF LOVE cookbook from The Honest Kitchen
The book has over 65 recipes for meals and treats that you can prepare for your pets--some of them you can even share with the humans in the house! Some recipes include Honest Kitchen products, but many are made from things you probably already have on hand. There are both cooked and raw recipes, and there's even a chapter for cats! I don't discriminate, man! It's not ALL about the dogs here. (Hmmm. Sequel idea... WHAT THE CAT ATE??)
4. A dog-themed bookmark, handmade by a local artisan. (OK, it's my sister... but she's local, and she's an artisan!)
You can't have this one with the dog paw charm cuz it's mine. But yours will be cute. Promise.
Here's how it works - you slip the hook inside the paperback. Cool, eh?

5. But wait! There's more: you get all the goodies listed in the cute bright pink reusable tote bag pictured above. The retail cost of the everything that's included is over $50!

How to Enter
The contest will run from today through midnight PST July 31; it is open to residents of the US and Canada [EXCLUDING Quebec** & where prohibited by law. Canadians will be required to answer a skill testing question before being declared the official winner]. To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below, maybe naming the dog that you'll be sharing the treats and cookbook with if you win. If you leave your comment anonymously, please be sure I have an email address to contact you if you win.

You can earn an extra entry by "liking" my Facebook author page. Please leave a separate comment saying you "liked" it (or that you'd already liked it in the past) so I can count your second entry.

In the past some readers have mentioned that they had problems leaving a comment. If you want to enter and are unable to leave a comment, you can email me at jackiebouchard {at} hotmail {dot} com.

On August 1st, I'll use randomizer.org to select the winner.

[Update: if you forget to add the separate comment, I'll add it for you. You can see in the comments I've added some already for folks. At the end of the contest, randomizer.org will crank out a random #, and the # will be matched to that comment # to determine the winner - that's why I'm posting separate comments for people. If the # picked is a comment from someone who isn't entering the contest, like my sis, I'll just go to the next #.]

Where to Buy the Book!
Here are all the places you can buy the book:
  • Print and e-book: Amazon (available for free shipping if you buy $25 worth of stuff. Buy 3 copies and ship free! Makes a great gift for the dog/book-lover in your life.) :)
  • Print only: CreateSpace CreateSpace (an Amazon co.) is the printer. You have to pay for shipping, but I make the most money if you buy it from here  - and in turn, Best Friends will make more money too.)

I hope you'll enter to win. I hope you'll tell your friends/fans/followers to enter too. And I hope you'll help save an ass.

** Sorry any Quebec friends who are reading. My own hubs is from Quebec, so I feel badly about excluding you - but apparently I gots too cuz of some Quebec laws about sweepstakes. Sorry!

  1. I would LOVE to win this. My dogs are my life and I would be sharing this with mt oldest Chance, my middle girl Missy May, and my little man Scooter. I would love to read the book as I enjoy anything dog related and I am always looking for new recipes for dog treats. The book mark would be great for the favorite part of the new book.

Hope to be hearing from you

  14. I would share the treats to my rescues: Cassie from Utah, Bailey from Cali and Misfit from Texas. I would also share with Sadie also from Texas, she is not a true rescue but a critter that really needed a bigger yard.

If I don't win, I will look for your book. Mom and I love reading books about critters

  20. I love your writing and you make me laugh. I was Chili Dawg's grandma. We have Sarge, a rescue dog, we think he is shar-pei/boxer mix and Burley, another rescue dog, mastiff/boxer mix. I would read the book aloud to the boys and make them share the treats with their cousins Finchy and Buster.

  21. Yay!!

  25. Quick comment to let you know I "liked" your FB page (and like it too; your header picture is great!).

  26. Well, the goodies look good enough to eat myself. But I guess I could be convinced to share them with Honey and our current foster, Cherie. :)

The question is will I read the book out loud to her if I win? Given the title, I'm not sure I want to encourage her eating un-sanctioned goodies.

BTW, don't know much about Blogger. But if it allows it, you might want to look into using Rafflecopter to run a giveaway. It helps "anal" people manage the process and be fair to everyone without going nuts.
