This is a photo of a nearby park that Rita LOVES to walk at. Normally on our walks, she's happy to head home because she knows there's a post-walk treat waiting. But she never wants to leave when we go to this particular park.
I like it too, since it has lovely views of the bay, and it's a good size for walking around. But... there's one thing neither of us like. Even though there's an off-leash park not far from here, there are ALWAYS dogs running loose at one end of this park. Of course there are signs everywhere saying dogs have to be leashed, but other than Rita and I not too many people seem to pay attention to that.
I guess we are dorks, but we follow the rules...
(Okay, I know it looks like she's not actually on leash but she is wearing her harness. Swear!)
Now For Some Book News...
First of all, stop by my pal author Peggy Frezon's blog for her review of Stray Magic and a chance to win your choice of an ebook or paperback! The giveaway ends at midnight Monday. All you have to do is leave a comment telling what one quality in a dog you'd like to see in your significant other. Fun, eh? So pop over to Peggy's blog to enter! And while you're there - check out her books too!
In other book news.. If you haven't read What the Dog Ate, the ebook is on sale until the end of this month for 99c! It's available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes and Smashwords.
Try not to let Rita's obvious lack of enthusiasm for these books sway you... They are both meant to be a fun diversion/escape from your/the world's troubles!
Okay, so... got a caption?

Rita, you need to learn to read! We don't like those folks with the free running, out of control dogs either, but they don't seem to understand the rules and why their dogs should be on leash. Maybe they can't read either.
ReplyDeleteYes, that’s it! She’s yelling that they need to learn to read! :)
DeleteWe follow the rules too. One time while hiking some random stranger actually told me B doesn’t need to be on the leash. I raised my eyebrow and carried on.
ReplyDelete“All the other dogs are running around free, why can’t I?”
Yeah, especially when we are hiking I keep her on leash. That makes me crazy. I’m guessing it was badly behaved offleash dogs that caused the Nat’l Parks to ban dogs from most hiking trails, which is a bummer. You never know what’s out there or just around the next bend. Here it’s not uncommon to encounter a coyote or rattlesnake so it’s important to have your dog on leash or RIGHT by your side, but of course the folks I see with their dogs are leash are generally the ones who have a dog they can’t control.
DeleteDon't know why people think they don't need to follow the rules!
ReplyDeleteMom loved "What the Dog Ate"! And is anxious to find some reading time for "Stray Magic"

Hope you’ll love SM too once you find the time! (It’s hard to find time for everything we want to do, isn’t it?!)
DeletePoor Rita obviously has zero idea why you're tormenting her with those pesky book things! And don't you just hate DADOs who can't follow the rules?!
ReplyDeleteYes... DADO’s... the bane of our existence on our walks!
Delete"Off my field you unleashed beasts!" At least that's what I figure Booker T and Cass would say...o or at least Cass. You know I STILL need to read What the Dog Ate. It's your only book I haven't read even though I own it. I simply must remedy that!
ReplyDeleteGood caption! Yes, she definitely could be saying that!
DeleteHope you’ll enjoy WTDA once you find the time!
Yeah, that's upsetting. Ruby is sometimes reactive with other dogs so I'm always nervous when others let their dogs run around. She always wears a leash (though I sometimes photoshop out her leash in photos)
ReplyDeleteYeah, Rita’s the same. And really you can’t blame them when they’re reactive when they’re on leash and the other dogs aren’t.
DeletePoor Rita, I'm with you on following rules of safety. We do it. Just last week in our neighborhood we had three dogs bolt up to us off leash. Stupid owners.
ReplyDeleteWe had one on our walk just two days ago - ran across the street at us. Luckily there wasn’t much traffic on the street right then and the one car that did come by stopped!
DeleteI think Rita's saying, "What do you mean another book signing?! Who's going to take care of ME?!"
ReplyDeleteOh, but Mom’s too shy to do book signings! So no worries for Rita there. :)
DeleteLovely Rita...are you singing? "The hills are alive...with the sound of doggies?" 😆
ReplyDeleteHehehe. Good one!
DeleteHmm... maybe she is saying, "I'm a good doggie, 'cause I do what I'm told." Tee hee hee. -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews
ReplyDeleteYes, and she's saying that at the top of her lungs to show those other doggies!
DeleteShe does think humans are often stupid... :)
ReplyDeleteMy copy of "Magic" just arrived!! I can't wait to get started!!
ReplyDeleteYay! Hope you enjoy it!!!
DeleteCute photo, I must be blind I can't see any other dogs.
ReplyDeleteOh, there aren't any in the photo... I guess that could be confusing. They are off on the one side of the park - the direction she's looking. We have to avoid that side since she doesn't like to be rushed at by off-leash dogs while she's on-leash. (Which I think is reasonable!)
DeleteI'm a rule follower too, and people that aren't really irritate me.
ReplyDeleteI can't really interpret Rita's expression there, maybe she just doesn't understand how people can sit still and read, when they could be out on walks instead? Also, what a beautiful view on that walk, I can see why you love it!
