What I Think This Look Means, And What It Really Means

Pretty much every time I take Rita for a walk, she'll stop a few times and look up at me with a smile, sort of like this:

Here's what I like to think this look means:

And here's what I'm pretty sure it really means:

I'm just the water-girl* around here.

What about you? Are you more dog-pawrent or more dog-servant??

*Yes, Rita knows how to drink out of a water bottle. Well, technically it's an energy gel flask for running, but it's a handy size for carrying water for her and I can stick it in my pocket if I need to free-up a hand.

  1. We are so busy walking and sniffing out critters, we rarely stop, let alone look at Mom. I do it the most, but Mom says it is because I'm older and wiser and it is just to get a cuddle on our walk.

    1. Oh, you have cuddle breaks on your walks?? We do that too! I call them hug breaks! I’m not sure Rita loves them, but I do. :)

  2. A little of both with Ruby. But definitely food service girl for our cats.

  3. I think all pet owners are a bit of both. I lean a little more toward pet parent though.

    1. Yes, it depends on the day and the activity I guess. But mostly pet parent here too.

  4. LOL Aren't we all really dog-servants? I know I am!

    1. Sometimes I do wonder what Rita thinks... Sometimes I think she worships us, and sometimes I think it’s vice versa!

  5. I agree, probably a little of both... but I try to be more of the parent. But when they give you those puppy eyes it's hard to stay strong, LOL.

  9. I can only say what Milo might think... hurry up! Whee!!! Run!!!!
Rita is so much more mature in her thoughts!
(Milo is influenced by his youth and not being snipped yet)

    1. Yep, definitely a consensus on “servant” here. :)

  11. We are all servants but that's only because our dogs don't have hands! If they did, they would be more than happy to help themselves to breakfast....lunch...dinner....1000 snacks.... ;-)

    1. That's why our dogs are always nicknamed "Moo-Moo Bossy." Taryn's comment reminds me of the time silly Jon asked who I'd save first in a burning car. Him? Or the dog? My response: Which one of you has hands? ;) Terry

    2. Haha. Yes, I would have responded the same!

Gosh, can you imagine the chaos if they had hands?? We’d all have to have padlocks with secret codes on our fridges and pantries!

  12. All our dogs drink out of water bottles. In fact, they have 4-5 of the Gatorade ones the football teams use and when they go to play, especially in the summer, we take them all in a backpack. And yes, it does make you feel like you're just the waterboy!

    1. Smart to bring a backpack. I bring a bigger water bottle when we go on longer walks or when it’s really hot. Maybe Ishould put it in a backpack to keep my hands free. Although... when she wants her water, she wants it NOW! :)

  13. You mean there's a difference? BOL Definitely servant. I live to serve these two knuckleheads. And they know it. 😆

  14. Ha ha!!! I'm both - definitely the servant but hopefully the best friend too. I love your captions with her soul-searching look!

  15. BOL!! My humom probably thinks the same too but really what I mean is.."hey mom! give me a treat since I'm walking so well on leash!"

    1. Hmmm. You could be right. Rita might mean the same!

  16. The only times my dogs acknowledge that I exist on a walk is when they stop and decide they need a treat! (I make them work for it though...they have to do a "sit" or a "watch me" to get it!) :)
