The Trees Say "Fall"; The Thermometer... Not So Much

We've been having what the weatherman calls "unseasonably warm" weather in San Diego recently. (I would call it "grossly hot." Or another phrase that would need censoring.) It was in the 90s on Saturday, even here at the coast, so we had to cut our usual morning walk pretty short.
Ice cubes in the water bottle keeps us both cooler!
On Saturday, the forecast claimed it would be almost 10 degrees cooler on Sunday, so we were looking forward to that!
This tree says it's fall. I call bulls**t.
When we woke up Sunday, it still seemed pretty darn hot, but we didn't check the forecast. Since it was so warm, we decided to go for a little hike in a canyon near our house, since the trail is mostly in the shade there, and there can sometimes be water for Rita to cool off in.

Before we got to the end of the trail, Rita let us know she'd had enough and turned around so we could head back. As we finished our little hike, she found some fairly gross water to take a dip in.
The girl loves a murky puddle!
When we got back home, I noticed the thermometer in my car said it was 92 in our 'hood. The weatherman totally lied to us! It was only about 1 degree cooler than it had been on Saturday.

It's supposed to cool off a very tiny bit Monday* and Tuesday and hopefully by Thursday it will be back in the 70s where it belongs!

The fall is my favorite season. I just hope we'll get to experience it soon! I dream of wearing jeans and a sweater!

Please tell me of your lovely fall weather so I can be jealous!

* Sue was right in her comment below. The weatherman lied again! Was supposed to drop to 88 today, but now they are saying it will be 95 today. Our worst day yet. Bleh. So over it.

  1. I have a theory about weather forecasts when it is hotter than hades and they claim it will cool off tomorrow (then tomorrow rolls around, no cooler, and then they say the next day) - it is simply a plot to keep us from having a psychotic break. At least that's what I began thinking last summer when it was well over 100 degrees every day for 5 1/2 weeks. This year is totally crazy. It's in the 80s and hard to believe Halloween is just around the corner!

    1. Ugh. I think you're right. Going to have to do an update to my post. It was supposed to drop to 88 today, but they just said on the news today will be the worst day yet - 95! (And that's at the coast - even hotter inland.) Can't believe you guys had 5+ weeks of 100+ degrees! But then, we dont have central AC so I'd lose my mind!

    2. 95 degrees and no central air? Yuck!! In California?! Mother Nature has some 'splaining to do! Jeffie is laying in front of an open window sniffing the breeze and wishing Rita was here :-)

  2. I have to say I'd much rather have the warm weather. I live in NY and we have long winters and Cocoa and I both are more summer girls :) It is perfect today though at 70. Hot for us this time of year!!

    1. Well, our version of "cold" isn't that bad, so I'd rather have it be cold - but that's OUR cold. Not NY cold. :) Rita agrees with me. With her partly-black coat, she definitely prefers the cooler weather!

  3. That is amazing to me that it's so hot there. Sheesh. We arrived in Washington were it's cool, and looks like it may have rained recently.

  4. Toronto's weather is always all over the place. Some days it's above ten others it's under. But yes it looks very fall like here also.

    1. Okay, had to do some math on that one, but since I used to live in Canada, I *do* know how to convert C to F! Under 10 is chilly!

  5. We here in Wyoming are also having unseasonably warm weather. We were 91 degrees on Saturday and 85 degrees on Sunday. Just not fall weather!

    1. Wow - that's crazy. Thought it was only our little corner of the country that was so hot. Is it too much to ask for a little fall-like weather?!

    2. I'm totally a spring/summer/ hot weather person with hot weather dogs. We would like to skip over the next two months and have it be the winter solstice when the sun start back to earth. Spring comes here in February and we can't wait.

    3. Rita and I are cool weather types. But of course, our winters aren't too bad - it's not like we live in Buffalo!

  7. It is unseasonably warm here today 22 C/77 F, normal would be about 10C/ 50F. Winter will be here too soon so we are just enjoying it!

  8. We did get a cool down on Sunday. Sat we were in the 80's and Sunday was very windy and high 60's. Got up this morning and it was 37 degrees. Time to bring in the garden vegetables!

  9. sorry, for once the weather is fabulous here in MD.
Of course the toxic mosquito Man company is still spraying for non existent mosquitos causing me to seal up the house to avoid a reaction. But not today... that's next week.

  10. We are going to hit the 100s this week but hopefully that will be the last of the summer weather. It never looks like fall here - but I settle for the cooler temps in the mornings and evenings. Blueberry and I are both happier with our "cooler" weather. :)

    1. It's all relative, isn't it?! We can't wait for our version of cooler too! :)

  11. Eeks! It hit 80 here yesterday and upper 70s again today and we are NOT happy about it! We went to the forest preserve this afternoon and weren't prepared, no water, sunscreen, etc. But 90 would just kill poor mom. Cooler air coming tonight yay! Love Dolly

  14. The weather in Northern Virginia can flip flop between hot and cold this time of year. We had a gorgeous weekend with daytime temps well into the 70's and probably close to 80, but then last night it cracked into the 30's, cooling off to 39. We have a frost warning for later this week! Years back, I remember getting TEN inches of snow on Columbus Day!

    Replies
    1. Wow - into the 30s?! That's a big drop after getting close to 80! That reminds me, when we lived in Canada, it snowed in mid-October. Not 10 inches, mind you, but a few inches! It was my first snow storm. I instantly was ready for Xmas!

  15. Oh my gosh, it's so hot there! The 90s are just too much. Rita sure is cute, though!

We've been having a similar weather thing here, it's been getting cold, then hot then cold and now it's warm again.. but not nearly as hot as the 90's! Eek!

  18. WV is seasonal and in the 70's. We have actually had to turn on heat last a few nights. We watched the San Diego/Pittsburgh game last night and I think it was 93 on the field there at kick off. Hope you guys get cooler weather soon. My dogs love this time of year!

  21. Wow. 90s. That's hot. Here we're still getting 70s. I'm happy with that. I'm sure it will cool down soon. Until then...ice cubes.

  22. I don't envy you. We didn't have a very hot summer but Sept. turned out to be hot at the beginning and that was enough to get us tired of it.
Our weatherman says we might see snow flurries this weekend! Don't be jealous of that. We have been enjoying perfect 60's and 70's and lots of sunshine, and the foliage has been gorgeous. But I'd prefer it stayed that way a little longer. But we're starting to see more clouds, and breezes today, so I have a feeling we're going downhill soon.
