Monday Mischief - Custom Bedding for the Dog Part II

Remember when Rita took it upon herself to customize her own bedding? (In a nutshell, she purloined a no-longer-needed twin mattress topper that I didn't know where to store and "customized" it to fit her fuzzy little form.)

Well, it was an eyesore, but she loved it so much I didn't have the heart to throw it away. Even though she continued to customize it more and more every night.

And even though I was constantly gathering up mitt-fulls of bits to throw away, I still didn't have the heart to get rid of it.

But... I did swear I'd get rid of it once she went through both layers and hit hardwood... which happened recently.

I was going to chuck it, but she still loved the darn bed so much I just couldn't do it.

So I bought a twin-size duvet cover and stuffed what was left of it inside, and then bought a matching blankie to go on top.
She seems to like it. And it's much less of an eyesore now.

To be totally honest, I don't think she likes the new arrangement as much as the old, but there was going to be nothing left if I didn't put what was left of that "bed" in a bag!

In Other News...
I've received copies of the audio version of RESCUE ME, MAYBE from my publisher. They sent both regular CDs and MP-3 CDs, which you can load onto iTunes and then listen to via your device of choice. (The hubs and I load books onto my iPad and then listen via Bluetooth in the car on road trips.)

I'm planning to have a special giveaway for a few of these puppies sometime this month - but it's going to be via my newsletter, so if you'd like to have a chance to win one please pop over to my website - jackiebouchard.com - and sign up on my home page for my quarterly newsletter.

Finally... if you're on GoodReads, you can enter to win one of 20 paperback copies of RESCUE ME, MAYBE that my publisher will giveaway on August 25, the release date.

  1. All doubt is gone. Rita really does have you wrapped around her paw! (The same as mine do me.) Your news about the audio versions of Rescue Me, Maybe reminded me - I already preordered your new book on Amazon! Yay! Can hardly wait :-)

    1. Thanks again for the preorder! I'm so nervous about that book being out in the world! Eeek!

  2. OMD - Rita's bedding is hilarious! My own dogs settle for the carpet. Well, the big dogs. I put blankets down, but they ignore them. The little dogs prefer my memory foam mattress. Smashed up against my legs or torso.

    1. You'd think she'd want to sleep in our comfy bed (she's welcome to) but she only comes up with us for about the last 1/2 hour every morning. She's a weird one. And, yes, her bedding is hilarious.

  3. She does look she isn't sure about this new arrangement and would prefer the old. I hope she is liking it better. I know Indy loved her blankie like that!

    1. She would totally prefer the old set up, but seriously, there was going to be nothing left of it! There were HUGE holes in the bottom.

  4. She looks pretty happy about the new bed. I'm so excited for you and the audio books, how cool is that!

    1. Actually I think she's not super happy about it. Every night now she sort of makes the rounds of all her bedding options (there are many....) and then reluctantly (or so it seems) comes back to that one.

  5. Rita's new bed cover looks so pretty but I guess the fun was digging and customizing the foam. It does look like fun it you're a dog, kind of like popping bubble wrap for us, lol! Just jumped over and watched the trailer for "Rescue Me, maybe", it looks like that will soon be added to my list of books to order. :)

    1. Yes, it's not longer an eyesore, but now she's not having that "popping bubble wrap" fun anymore!

  6. Very exciting about your book. Brown dawgs would have eaten the bed scraps, something I know Rita does not do...lol.

    1. Yeah, Rita barely eats real food. Not good if she'd eat the scraps, but luckily I don't have to worry about that!

  7. I bet it's very comfortable lol! Congrats on the book too :)

    1. It sure does look cozy and comfy, at least IMHO. :)

  8. I love how well trained Rita has you. It's your aesthetic sense versus Rita's comfort and you managed to satisfy both with your new plan. Rita's eyes are not to be resisted.

Exciting book news. Congratulations. I must pop over and investigate. As weird as it seems, I have never gotten into audio books.

    1. I love audio books for long car trips, but I really don't ever listen to them other than that. The complication there is that it's always the hubs and I in the car together, so we have to find books we can both enjoy! And, yes, it's hard to resist the "Rita eyes."

    1. She would prefer it the old way, to be honest, but she's making the best of it. :)

  10. Sometimes you've just got to work with it. She seemed pretty determined. Congrats on the books.

    1. Yeah, we kinda had to work with it - although I think she wishes we'd left it alone. She would have been happy to sleep on a pile of scraps. Silly girl.

  11. You had to do what you did, she would never have forgiven you if you'd tossed it. Look at that face. Mom has a similar problem with Taffy's bed, that came with her from Grandma's. It's disgusting and impossible to wash but there is no way she can throw it out. She got a new bed once and wouldn't use it so we know we are stuck with it. Even after she threw up all over it the other night. Love Dolly

    1. Oh, I hear you Dolly. Poor Taffy - she wants her beloved bed! Just like Rita. The things we do for our pups. :)

  12. Old habits die hard - and some don't die at all. Give her a chance to warm up to the cover, she needs time LOL Congrat's on your audio book, that is so super. Can't wait to hear it.

    1. Maybe she'll like it more once the weather turns cooler!

  13. Rita, that face! Guess you get all the right areas high, and low, so that it fits your bits. Then a mommy comes along and covers it up!

    1. Yes, she had it perfectly fitting her bits... but then she went too far! Hitting the hardwood... that just can't be comfortable!

  14. We think you came up with a good compromise! Oh yes, that face, and those eyes...I don't know how you can ever say no to her!
Congrats on the audio books and paperbacks! I'm going to enter the giveaways, those would make some great Xmas gifts!

  19. Love the new bedding! Even if poor Rita isn't as thrilled.... ;-) I also have to admit, I shamelessly can't wait for the giveaway and have to buy the audio version immediately. :-)

  20. Good solution for the bed. Sometimes we love things too much and kill them but don't want to lose them. Now she can keep it.

  23. I am always making sure that Brook's bedding is nice and smooth and comfy looking...she does the whole "nesting" thing and puts into a big pile. Every time! Why do we think we know best?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Rita is VERY into the "nesting" thing! She makes her blankie into a super uncomfortable looking blob and then plops on top of it. (When she gets up, I run over and smooth it out. She probably hates that.)

  24. That was so nice of you to redo her wrecked pad. I too keep onto beds that are destroyed a little to long. I will have to go get your newsletter as I would like to win a audio version since I drive 1.5 hours to work one way I could get a lot read.
