Rita is mostly a very good girl - doesn't steal socks or undies, doesn't counter surf, never chews things she shouldn't. Of course, it's easy to be good when you live in a lax house like ours. But... we do have ONE rule: No sticks in the house!
Rita loves to find a stick when we go on a walk. Usually I'll toss it for her a time or two, and then she forgets about it. But the other day, she found a fine stick that she insisted on bringing all the way home. She trotted the entire length of our street (about 3/4 of a mile or more) with it in her mouth, tail proudly wagging.
So, of course she wanted to blatantly violate the "No sticks in the house!" rule.
We solved the dilemma by putting her bed out on the deck for a while, where she happily chewed her stick al fresco.
Don't forget...

Mischief!
All she is missing is the candlelight...lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, and maybe a red-checkered table cloth. :)
DeleteWhat a great Mom to solve her stick issue.
ReplyDeleteWe do try to bend over backwards to keep her happy. She's pretty spoiled...
DeleteI bet she was happy to accept the stick compromise!
ReplyDeleteShe did seem to enjoy it. We need to get her an outdoor bed!
DeleteWow, that was a pretty awesome stick.
ReplyDeleteHoney shreds sticks up so thoroughly they don't last long enough to get home. So luckily we don't need to enforce that particular rule.
Yeah - she was trying to shred this one. But she's slow about it - so you end up with a lotta stick stuff in the house, hence the rule! it's good you don't even need that rule!
DeleteThat is quite a neat looking stick! I can see why she didn't want to leave it!
ReplyDeleteShe was so cute walking down the street with it! It's almost as tall as her!
DeleteThat Rita cracks me up! Looks like she needs more bones and fewer sticks. ;)
ReplyDeleteShe would agree with you, I'm sure!
DeleteLOL...that's quite the stick too. Good job for Rita!
ReplyDeleteShe takes her work seriously.
DeleteI love sticks too.
ReplyDeleteFunny how dogs love sticks... I wonder what the appeal is??
DeleteMy guys don't try to bring the sticks inside, but Jimmy did sneak a mouthful of deer poop in one time!
ReplyDeleteAgh! The horror! lol. That must have been an exciting day at your house!
Deletehaha such a big stick!
ReplyDeleteShe carries a big stick - but she doesn't speak softly. She's got quite a loud bark actually!
DeleteOur house is pretty lax too but our rule is no chews on the bed!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of one other rule! We have a "no licking yourself on the bed!" rule!
DeleteThat's was one of our Sally's favorite things to do - find a stick, bring it home and shred it.
ReplyDeleteAbby used to do that too. Sometimes HUGE sticks. Hence the instigation of the rule!
DeleteI find stuff like a bottle or a stick all the time, but sometimes they are extra special and I just have to carry them all the way home. I never get to bring them in the yard or house, though. That was nice Rita got to enjoy it for a while anyway.
ReplyDeleteShe also found a squeaky ball that she just loves on a walk. It's fun to find a treasure on a walk. Bummer that you don't get to bring your treasures in the house, Emma!
DeleteWith my last dog Shadow, sticks in the house were pretty common. I suppose I allowed it because hey, the dog door swung both ways and it was pretty easy for her to bring them inside when I was gone at work all day and plus the fact that it is way too hot here in the summer to do any stick chewing outside. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a different ballgame when there's a dog door. My sis's dog once tried to bring a baby possum in through the dog door!
DeleteI like your way of thinking by putting her bed outside that would be something I would do, got to be comfy you know.
ReplyDeletewhat a complete sweetheart she is and what a smart Momma you are!
ReplyDeleteOur dogs get almost all their treats on the porch because of the mess Prince usually makes. Just seems easier to clean only one area. I haven't taken their beds out but they usually eat in their kennels which they love. Glad you two were able to work something out that made everyone happy!
ReplyDeleteThat's one very big stick! Rosie is in complete sympathy with Rita about sticks in the house :-) (Jeffie thinks sticks belong on trees...)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful compromise! Rita is lucky to have parents that are always thinking of new ways to spoil her (and are probably experienced at bending the rules)! :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute :) Storm used to love sticks as a puppy but she seemed to grow out of it as she no longer looks for them.
ReplyDeleteRita looks so pleased with her stick find :)
ReplyDeleteHa! I was wondering if she would hide it in the bed so you could carry it back inside for her!
ReplyDeleteThat's not a stick! That's practically a tree!! MOL
ReplyDeleteHaha Rita, are you trying to bend the rules? :) Mum used to have a Golden who used to try to bring his sticks through the doggie door, his sticks were massive, so it took a lot of effort to finally get it through! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy :)
