Less Wordy Wednesday: Marketing Genius

Rita's a weird mix of chow-hound/picky girl, so I'm always on the lookout for new things for her. So, when I was cruising the dog section of our local Sprouts (a chain of natural/organic grocery stores - do you have Sprouts?) I immediately noticed a brand I'd never seen before called: "I and love and you."

I grab the bag of cow ears called "ear candy" and start looking at the fine print: "no hormones." Check! "Nothing artificial." Check! "Made from tasty free range cattle." Check! The word China appears nowhere. Check!! (The cows are free range, grass fed, hormone-free Brazilian cattle.)

Rita's a fan of the ear candy!
They were a wee bit pricey (I forget how much) but there are 5 in the bag, and Rita's not a chewing maniac. She made the first two ears last over 2 or 3 chewing sessions.

Here's the fine print on the bag behind the name, since it's hard to read in the pic above:
"I saw you & knew. Took you home with
me and named you. Cuddled you.
We fell in love. Um...excuse me?
No, that's my bed and that plaid
cushion on the floor is for you."

How could I resist a product like that, with a name like that? I couldn't! Marketing genius!

And since Rita likes some wet food mixed with her grain-free kibble, I also picked up some of their grain-free canned turkey "Gobble it up stew" and "Beef booyah stew". Rita gives it all "two dew claws up!"

Check out their site for lots of good stuff. I might have to look into their dehydrated food. (We tried Honest Kitchen, and Rita loved it at first, but she went off it, unfortunately.) And they have supplements and whatnot too. Definitely want to check out their "My Sparkly Ears" and flea + tick line.

Note: This is not a sponsored post. They did not contact me. I just found their products, liked them, and wanted to share. Cuz I'm nice that way.

In Other News...
Speaking of sharing, if you haven't got a copy of my debut novel, What the Dog Ate, yet, here's your chance to enter to try and win 1 of 3 signed copies from Free Book Friday. They have giveaways every week, so it's worth checking out! Also there is a wee interview with me and you can find out what super power I'd like to have. (It was SO long between when I signed up to get on their site and when I actually got on - over a year! - that I forgot my answer. Had to read the interview myself!)

Sorry I was WORDY (again!) on "Wordless" Wed. but I wanted to share about "I and love and you"!
Happy Hump Day!

  1. Cow ears. I still have to pick some up for Beamer since he's yet to try them. I've been travelling around the States and have yet to see a Sprouts.

  8. I am such a label reader too, and I have to admit that originality is what draws me in to products!

  11. All the really good treats are always a wee bit pricey! As they say, you get what you pay for!

  12. I tried this brand with Dexter and he really liked them. I didn't know about this particular product, so thanks for the heads up.

  13. I don't think we have a Sprouts. Interesting new treat you have there!

  14. Chamois my generic dog goes through most chew products the way most dogs go through peanut butter and I'm always looking for new chewies that aren't made in China and don't warn me to wash my hands thoroughly for a half hour or so after handling this product.

  15. Nope, we don't have sprouts. San Diego is looking better and better to me. You have Sprouts and no bugs. We have bugs and no Sprouts. :-(

I love that it's not made in China. I might have to check out their dehydrated food too. WE tried HK for vacation and it didn't sit too well with my guys.

  16. We just got a Sprouts this year, and have only been there a few times (mostly because it's across town and we're lazy enough that we like to shop as close to home as possible). I've seen the 'I and Love and You' products while there, but haven't picked up any to try yet. They were indeed pricey, but that's never stopped us before. Nothing's too good for the hounds, right?
I have entered to win a signed copy of your book, though I keep forgetting to re-enter. No matter, I'm happy to pay for a signed copy ;).

  17. That IS a cute product...and with good ingredients! As for the pricey-ness, you get what you pay for, right? I find the healthier options in human and dog foods (and treats) are always the most expensive.

Thanks for the reminder to enter the giveaway again today. I nearly forgot! Cute interview too. :-)

  18. No Sprouts stores here....wish we did. We have one local grocery store that carries a lot of natural/organic products though. Someone was really thinking when they came up with the idea for naming those treats, and I love the packaging. It's so good to see more and more natural products coming out for dogs. We can't do long lasting chewy treats in our house though....the beagles get too crabby if anyone comes near them.

  19. My human mommy really needs to improve the treat variety around here. Can you believe that I've never, ever had a cow's ear? Looks like some additional human training is needed at my house!

  20. Nice review, I have never seen cow ears before. They are using all the parts of several animals now but can't believe I haven't seen this yet.
