Mirth Watch Thursday: Peeps Show

Peeps. Would it really be Easter without them? No, not to eat - just to mess with. Or microwave. Or decorate with. Or make bunny ears for your dog.

Did you know Peeps are turning 60 this year? You can read more about that here and see a slide show of how they're hatched made.

Every year The Washington Post has a Peeps diorama contest - and every year we (we = me and some of my sillier siblings/in-laws) say we are going to enter. But we never remember until it's time for the contest winners to be announced. Someday! (Although it's a bit of a challenge as I believe you have to hand deliver your diorama - a logistical problem since we all live on the west coast. But we'll figure it out...)

Anyway, the winners from this year were announced on Tuesday. You can see the winner and other finalists here. I had planned to post some of the pics here, but there are just too many good ones, so you need to go and flip through the slide show. I especially like "Zero Peep Thirty." You can view more entries here. I especially like slide 11 - Pink Slime - and slides 12 and 21 also made me laugh out loud. And be sure to check out slide 32 for a doggy-themed diorama: Banana Joe the Affenpeepscher as Best in Peeps.

We are stock-piling Peeps (pretty sure they last forever) and some day we WILL enter!

Happy Peepster!

  5. We love the Peeps show!!! I think they make perfect bunny ears for you. (Ma says to say they are delicious when they are stale - whatever that means).

    1. I have some SUPER stale ones - not sure how delicious they would be. We've been stock piling them for years!

  6. I've never seen the Peeps Show before before this post. Now I'm also wondering how I'd get my own entry to DC. I'd really like to see Zero Peep Thirty's " battery-powered, light-up fireball made of spray-painted cotton" in action as my Easter centerpiece.

I adore those sophisticated bunny ears, who's the model?

    1. That would be an awesome center piece! And it would probably smell like toasted marshmallow!

That is our angel, Abby. I made those ears for her a couple of years ago. Not a great photo, but we managed to win a prize in a peeps n' pups photo contest!

  7. I think Rita would rather eat the Peeps than wear them on her head.

    1. That's actually Rita's angel big sister, Abby - but yes, she did want to eat the peeps!

    1. I love s'mores, but nope - I'm not brave enough to try that either!

Maybe I'll try roasting a peep over our new fire pit this weekend... If our ancient stock-piled peeps will even burn...
