Wordless Wednesday: DONE

If you've been following along, you know we started a so-called "6 week" backyard remodeling project waaaaaay back in mid-October. Finally, for today's almost-wordless Wednesday, the word of the day is DONE.
"I love my new sunning spot!"

Yes, four and half months later, our "6-week" project is done. Or, at least, the workers are done. Now all the decorating/planting begins. I'll try to post "after" pics once all the final prettying-up is done done done. Right now it's just a big ol' slab of deck, but Rita loves it cuz it's perfect for sunning. She especially likes to lie on the step - I think she likes have a warm backrest from the riser.

One bummer is that now every little dirty paw print shows on the new deck:

Anyway, Rita and I are just happy there will no longer be strange men in the yard. Well... except for Daddy. (Hi Daddy!)

Happy Sligthly-Less-Wordy Wednesday!

  1. What kind of wood did you use? It looks beautiful and so smooth, like indoor flooring. I can't wait to see the decorated version!

    1. Isn't it pretty? It's a Brazilian hardwood called ipe. (pronounced ee-pay). It's supposed to be really long lasting. It looked kind of a boring pale color until they put the sealer on it. The sealer really made it a gorgeous deep color. (So now we have to be good about re-applying the sealer every year - hopefully not more often than that!)

    1. It's true - things always take 3X as long and cost 3X as much as you think they will! Should have remembered that from all the projects we did at our previous house!

  4. A realtor friend of mine told me about someone who took her dog's fur into a flooring store to match her linoleum. Maybe you should have done the same with Rita's foot prints and the wood. :)

    Looks fabulous!

  6. I'm so envious that you have sun in your sunny spot! Your porch looks lovely, what a beautiful color stain. What are your plans for furniture/flower pots/etc?

    1. Oh, that's the overwhelming part now! We had planned to buy new furniture, but the project was (of course) more than we thought it would be, so this week I've been re-painting, cleaning and car waxing our old patio furniture. (It's actually coming out looking really nice! Did not know about the car wax thing until this week.) Ordered new cushions so it will all look nice and new. Then the planting begins! Mostly going to do succulents, because they are dead easy and even a black-thumb like me can't kill them too easily!

And, yeah, we've had some lovely sunny weather this week. It's been really nice!

Ok, have a really ignorant question but since I didn't see an email address, gonna ask it here...ok, I think I have been a hot mess joining the Blog Hops and doing it wrong....sorry to all!! Anyway, can you kind of explain the "rules"...do I copy and paste the whole linky link thing every Wednesday now when I post on Wordless Wednesday or just the day I join, etc.? Also, how do I know when to stop doing Wordless Wednesday? I'm sorry but it's all pretty new to me and I need "training" like my Max :)

  9. Congratulations! It looks great! The paw prints add character to it!!

We felt the same way a few years ago when we had a nice new stamped patio added to our backyard. It was all nice and shiny until it rained and the dogs walked on it!
