What's On The Telly? Dog Don't Care; He Watches It All

As you know, Reg stayed with us for two weeks recently.

Man, that dog watches a lot of TV! He loves everything - dramas, dancing, sports, cartoons, the news... even commercials.

Here he is watching Peaky Blinders. Not sure if he could understand their heavy Irish accents or not. We certainly can't, so we turn on the captions, so maybe he was paying such close attention because he had to read along like we do.
He also enjoyed watching the Stanley Cup. He doesn't care who won; just enjoyed watching the puck zing around. (I had to watch it through his ears since he was on my lap...)

He was absolutely riveted by Bloodlines (you can see the TV reflected in the glass door). I kept asking him, "Do your parents let you watch these R-rated shows?" He said yes. "Did they even watch the previous seasons? Do you know what's going on?" He claimed he could follow it.

Sometimes I'd have to put up a pillow block, just so he'd finally relax and get some sleep!

He's a funny boy. (BTW, points to anyone - outside of my family members! - who knows where the "What's on the telly?" line comes from. Bonus points if you know the follow-up line!)

Thanks to BlogPaws for hosting Wordless Wednesday! You can check out all the blogs in the hop here.

  1. He might be related to my wife! Now that summer is here watching TV is her full time job. She could probably make a career out of it by creating a blog about her shows.

    1. There probably is a career in that - I often google looking for synopses of episodes of shows I can't remember. (Like I had to do with Peaky Blinders, because we couldn't remember some of what happened in S1!)

    2. Yeah, the only problem is I don't think I can get her to do the writing/blogging part.

  2. Funny! Leo was pretty riveted to something last night.

  3. Looks like a penquin? (Monty Python)

Jimmy watches so much TV he is a hazard to himself as he will fly across the room to bark and jump up and down right in front of the screen. If something is in his way, he just bounces off of it and keeps going.

    1. Another similarity between our two crazy pups, Taryn. TV is an adventure here.

    2. Yay! Points for you! (And I just went to look up the video of it - turns out we've been saying it wrong in my family all these years. We always say "What's on the telly then?" But he/she actually does say "television." So, good for your getting it when I quoted it wrong!

    3. Oh, and I never did manage to get a pic of him running at the TV. He would jump up on these footstools we have under the TV to try and get closer to it. Nut.

  4. My cats have shown occasional interest in the movement on the TV. The dogs only care when there's a strange noise. Otherwise they must be totally baffled at my ability to stare at the thing for hours at a time!

  5. We always leave the TV on for Booker T and Cassius when we go to work. They enjoy the sounds. Booker T doesn't watch much but I catch Cass watching a lot. Reg has some interesting tastes in shows and Cass watched the Stanley Cup Sunday evening as well.

    1. Funny that he was also watching hockey. Rita has zero interest in sports! Unless it's the Doxy "wienie races".

  6. That is too cute. The line must be from a british show, but I don't know which one. We are pretty much hooked on all shows british. So if you have a good series to watch, I'd love to hear it.

    1. Taryn got it - it's from an OLD Monty Python sketch! Very very very very silly stuff! (We've been watching the 'darker' British shows lately, like Ripper Street, Peaky Blinders and Broadchurch. All very good. But dark!)

  7. Jax is into sports mostly. Can't figure it out, but like Reg, I think it's adorable to watch them watch "the telly!"

  8. Fry really watches tv and barks like crazy. Sometimes he runs right up and gets a close look so cute. Reggie is adorable.

    1. Yeah, Reg does the run up and get closer to it thing too. I've only seen Rita do that when coyotes or birds were on the TV. She only likes to watch animals, especially other dogs.

  9. Bailey used to watch a lot of TV - he would get his couch pillows all fluffed and settle in. He liked action stuff but hated sports. We had to keep a fireplace screen around the entertainment center cause he jump and bark at any dog, cats, horses!

    1. That's hysterical that he hated sports. Rita is indifferent to sports on TV. Our last dog would go nuts when we watched football - but that's because I'd start screaming at the TV or cheering, so she'd start racing around!

  10. Reggie's mom here. Yep -- he's a TV maniac. Hmmm - like this last idea about the fireplace screen to deter our jumpy kook.

(Oh, I wish I was eligible. I love that follow-up line.)

    1. That is a good idea! He kept jumping up on our footstools to get a closer look. Told him he'd ruin his eyesight!

  11. Have you ever tried DogTV from DirecTV? We had a foster dog who would actually move her bed into position in front of the tv and be mesmerized by it!

    1. That is SO cute! I tried it with Rita when we had it for free one weekend and she didn't seem too interested. There weren't enough dogs in the parts we watched. She only likes to watch dogs!

  12. LOL Reggie is adorable! Rudy and Rosie are not interested in TV at all. We got a free trial of that DogTV and neither paid any attention. However, our cat Skeeter loved it. It is entirely possible Skeeter thinks she's a dog, too ;-)

  14. I don't know where that line comes from, something British? But...that is HILARIOUS! Dakota never watches TV, but Cody LOVES The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, he not only watches, he holds "hands" with me while he does :)

Yes, it's British - it's from an old Monty Python episode!

  15. Haha! Reggie did a better job than I did while watching the Stanley Cup. I think I need to sit closer to the TV to keep a closer eye on the puck.

    1. The hubs says we need a bigger TV so he can see the puck bettter! (I'm hoping he'll forget - at least until next hockey season...)

  17. Isn't that phrase from Monty Python? To which the next line would be "Looks like a Penguin."

Sam could give a whit about TV, he likes it when I encourage him up to lay in or near my lap though. He's such a cuddler and I only wish he loved hockey as much as his mum. ;)

    1. Yes! Monty Python! And yes it DOES look like a penguin. ("And now, the penguin on top of your television will explode.")

That's too bad he doesn't cheer for your team with you!

  18. Those pictures are fantastic! We leave Dog TV on to keep Shasta company during the day. I'm really dying for a "doggy cam" so we can see what he is doing during the day!

    1. Oh, we'd love to have a doggy cam too - although I'm pretty sure she just sleeps while we're gone!

  19. When I saw in the comments that the quote was a Monty Python thing, I asked the hubby about it. He knew immediately, and then went into a whole long quote of what came after....sorry I didn't get it all to repeat! LOL
Luke is our TV watcher. He likes the news, gets excited if there are dogs or other animals, and will also watch Nascar races with me. :)

That's good that you have a Nascar-watching buddy!

  21. LOL none of our dogs are at all interested in tv. Storm used to bark whenever there was a doorbell on the tv. She would wake up from a sound sleep to bark at it. Thank goodness at some point she figured out it was tv and not our actual doorbell.

    1. That's so funny because so does Rita! When she hears that "click" sound it makes, she heads for the back door. Has to check and make sure everything's okay out there before we all head to bed!
