We've been celebrating Rita's b-day all week, culminating with today's donation-fest. It's what my friends and I always call a "Hanukkah Birthday." (What would be really great would be a "Ramadan Birthday"!) Hmmm. Just remembered Hanukkah is 8 days, and we're only celebrating Rita for 7 days. Guess this is technically her "Hanukkah -1 Birthday."
On her actual bday, we went to the beach:
As a hopefully-interesting aside... the news said these little crab thingies were blanketing the beach one day last week. Luckily by the time we got there, it was just the after-math. Not sure what Rita would have done with thousands of them!
The aftermath of Crab-pocalypse |
On Friday, she got her brand-new PrideBites frisbee with her face on it! (Long story behind this...)
Looks worried that maybe I think the toy is cuter than her. (Never!!) |
Waiting for her Dutchman at the drivethru |
Sunday we tried to give her a Frosty Paw - but she turned it down!! (WtH??) She got a pizzle instead, but I forgot to take pics of any of that.
Monday, she got a Rachel Ray "soup bone" treat. It was reduced to a few teensy crumbs in mere minutes, so she must have liked it!
Tuesday, she got another PrideBites toy - a skull and crossbones, that matches her leash!
I think so far she had more fun opening it than playing with it... |
And Wednesday, today, we'll celebrate with this post and the donation for the comments!
Thanks for helping us celebrate, and for helping out BAS and Rita's fellow Mexican rescue buddies!
* We don't really know when her b-day is since she's a rescue, but BAS estimated she was born in June so we picked the 16th for her special day.
** To a max of $250. I don't REALLY expect to get over 250 comments - probably the most I've ever gotten is in the 30's - but figured I should set a max just in case... And I should probably put a time limit on this, so it will include every person who comments through the end of the day July 4th.
Thanks to BlogPaws for hosting Wordless Wednesday! You can check out all the blogs in the hop here.
Happy birthday, Rita. Maybe scout needs a Flying Dutchman for her birthday.
ReplyDeleteScout totally needs one for her bday! And for her Gotcha Day!
DeleteHappy Birthday Rita! And thanks for sharing some of your spoiled -1, 8 day, 5th birthday celebration with a dog in need!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bethany!
DeleteHappy, happy birthday sweet Rita!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hailey, Phod & Lady!
DeleteBooker T and Cassius send their Happy Birthday wishes! That frisbee is so cool and here's hoping you get tons of donations! Booker T can destroy those Rachel Ray bones in mere seconds as well.
ReplyDeleteShe's usually not an aggressive chewer, so it was either very soft, or very tasty! (Or both!)
DeleteHappy birthday, Rita! Love that photo of her waiting for her Flying Dutchman :-) My dogs don't like Frosty Paws either. Living rural they're hard to find and when I finally did... none would eat them! Of course, that was pre-Rosie who lives to eat (and nap). lol
ReplyDeleteRita is SO fussy. She'd had one before and seemed to like it okay, but not this time!
DeleteHappy birthday Rita. You had quite the celebration. Storm's birthday is coming up. I sure hope she is not expecting that kind of celebration...lol.
ReplyDeleteRita is going to tell her! :)
DeleteHappy Birthday Rita. And I personally see nothing wrong with Birthday week.
ReplyDeleteMe either!
Deletehappy birthday and what a fab way of celebrating
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Rita!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Aunt Jean
Thanks, Aunt Jean. (Stella should get a Dutchman on her bday too!)
DeleteHappy Birthday, Rita! Enjoy all the love and happiness for your Birthday week.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think she has definitely enjoyed it!
DeleteHappy Birthday Sweet Rita!! It sounds like you celebrate birthdays the way we do, week long celebrations. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to make things last!
DeleteHappy birthday Rita!!!! My goodness we must get on mom - a week of toys and treats sounds pawsome!
ReplyDeletehugs
Mr bailey, Hazel & Mabel
Times 3 dogs - that's a lotta treats and celebrating!
DeleteI always feel guilty not remembering to celebrate my dogs' birthdays or gotcha days. But I barely remember my kids' days.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, sweet girl. You are loved.
I'm sure the dogs don't hold it against you. (The kids though... maybe...)
DeleteHappy Birthday Rita. What a great way to celebrate!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Rita! You've had quite a week! I'm going to share this over on FaceBook to help get your Baja friends a few more dollars ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, let's get BAS some more money!
Deletewhat lovely pictures! and I love the pink and black skull! We got Pride Bites of both doggies. They took a loooong time.
ReplyDeleteGood grief - ours took sooooo long. I ordered it on 3/31 - figuring I'd beat the Shark Tank crowd since they were on the show in like mid or early April. Due to a couple of snafus, I only just finally got her frisbee on 6/17, the day after her bday!
DeleteHappy birthday, Rita!!! My boys' collars match your leash !!!
ReplyDeleteThey can be twinsies (Or triplets, I guess!) with Rita!
DeleteHappy birthday Rita - you are very sweet -🎂🎁🎈
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHappy birthday!

DeleteHappy Birthday, Rita! Five is like nothing! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYes, hopefully she has many many many many many years ahead still!
DeleteHappy, happy birthday, Rita (woof, woof, woof--that's me singing the Happy Birthday song in dog talk, lol). I love the frisbee with her face on it. What a cool idea. I also love that you indulge her with a Flying Dutchman on her birthday. Yes, yes, we must all indulge every so often, eh? Cheers, hugs to Rita and have a great week.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I know I like to indulge on MY bday, so why not the dog too? (I"m sure some folks think it's terrible we let her eat that - but it's only twice a year. And I don't care what those folks think!) :)
DeleteHappy Birthday, Rita! It looks like you had a wonderful week and what a super way to top it off. So glad you avoided the crabs...I think those would have freaked me out! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'll have to do something like this when the crews' birthdays roll around, it's such a nice way to give back (just hope I can remember two months from now what I wanted to do!).
I'm glad we missed the crabs too! It was seriously a blanket of them when I saw it on the news. Creeeeepy.
DeleteAs for remembering... I'm the same way. Got the idea for Hailey & Phod. Had to write it down and still almost forgot! :)
What a lovely special birthday! Happy Birthday! I like the frisbee with her face on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! The frisbee is cute, eh?
DeleteHappy Birthday, Cousin Rita!

DeleteWhat a great bday she had and how nice of you to make a donation the the rescue.
ReplyDeleteSince she's so loved/spoiled, we wanted to do something to help other dogs find a home to get loved/spoiled in!

Don't eat the monkey
Unless it tries to attack you
(The last two lines are in lieu of "you look like a monkey and you smell like one too".)
Hahaha. Thank you. She doesn't smell like a monkey so that was an appropriate lyric change. (She doesn't smell great... But it's not a monkey smell anyway.)
DeleteHappy birthday!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Rita! 🐾❤️🐶🎂🎈🎉
