Sometimes the hubs brings the brush along on walks, so he can quickly sneak in two or three strokes when she stops to sniff something. But this weekend, she was completely distracted by a lizard in the bushes, so he went to work on her!
He really cleaned out a lot of her undercoat on her haunches and, man, she needed it so bad! She looked like she was wearing wool pants before the hubs got at her.
So, even though brushing is not her fave activity, everyone was happy:
- Rita got to chase a lizard;
- Hubs got to remove a very satisfying amount of hair from those haunches;
- The birds in the 'hood got some very cozy nest fluff;
- And I got blog fodder! :)
Does your dog like to be brushed or groomed, or does he/she hate it like Rita?
Thanks to BlogPaws for hosting Wordless Wednesday! You can check out all the blogs in the hop here.
LOL! If you think that is "fur flying", don't ever get a corgi! You probably already know from Reggie. (How's your sis doing? Haven't seen her in my comments in a long while....) Wilson hates to be brushed and Jimmy likes it. They can leave behind a pretty big pile of hair after a bath! Nothing compared to what my childhood collies provided however! They literally gave off a full garbage bag!
ReplyDeleteOh, that "fur flying' was a wee exaggeration for the title. :) Wow, a full garbage bag?? My one sis had a husky mix and she could have built another dog with all the hair that would come off of her.
Delete(My sis is good. They've been busy with their new house in Oregon!)
We tolerate it for a few minutes but that is about it. Even though we have been brushed regularly since we were little, we are not fans.
ReplyDeleteRita agrees! She's definitely not a fan.
DeleteLOL Jeffie was very, very hairy and he really wasn't keen on brushing though he needed it daily. He sort of had a time limit - about 15 minutes - and then he was DONE and left the scene :-) Rudy and Rosie don't mind it at all, but I've had other dogs who loved it and would be happy with 24/7 brushing!
ReplyDeleteMiss that fluffy boy! 15 min is pretty good, but I'm sure that was a drop in the bucket. Figures that the furriest of your dogs woule be the least tolerant of the brushing. :)
DeleteForget nests, we can build full bird complexes with the fur that is shedded here. When it gets warmer I take them outside and it is hilarious watching the birds come for the hair.
ReplyDeleteNot fans of brushing, but Katy does like the feel of it when the undercoat is brushed out. Bailey never admits it's better.
Rita likes Bailey's attitude!
DeletePoodles love grooming. Any Poodle who didn't like to be brushed and clipped would not have been bred hundreds of years ago.
ReplyDeleteGood point!
DeleteOoooh! Too bad there are no lizards in Belgium! It looks like soon much fun!!
ReplyDeleteLove x
Wow, no lizards there? That's interesting!
DeleteHailey hates it. Phod likes it - up to about 10-15 min and then he is done. I love your method!
ReplyDeletePhod looks like he'd need it more than Hailey, so it's good he doesn't completely hate it. I'm assuming he's a coat 'blower' like Rita is.
DeleteMr. N got a haircut yesterday and he is .4 pounds lighter!
ReplyDeleteLol. That's a lot for him! (Heck, I'd take losing .4 lbs.)
DeleteThat is a lot of hair coming out, but nothing compared to when we had a Golden Retriever. The birds could build a skyscraper with that fluff!
ReplyDeleteYeah,, she sheds a good bit, but I know it could definitely be worse! I enjoy picturing the birds in their G.R.-hair skyscraper. :)
DeleteRaven and Stetson love getting brushed. Archer and Linus not so much. Unfortunately, for Archer he's shedding like a maniac right now. We have a zoom groom and use it on our two Labs. I agree you'd think they'd love it like getting a massage.
ReplyDeleteI know - what's not to like about a nice massage?? Rita also hates getting rubbed down with a towel, which our last dog loved!
DeleteLooks like it would feel good on the body. Love the tail wagging. Harley loves it - Jax not so much, especially around the paws. It's a battle - but I usually win!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what makes one dog love it while another hates it?
DeleteMabel doesn't mind but Bailey and Hazel will run to hide - Dad has to hold them so mom can brush
ReplyDeletehugs
Mr Bailey Hazel & Mabel
Yep, sounds like our house, only here mom holds while dad brushes!
DeleteI covered a story years ago on a woman who knit sweaters from her dogs' hair. The sweaters were gorgeous, very soft and fluffy, and she sold them for a good price, too. So maybe, you know, if the hubs keeps sneaking in brushings you can knit him a Christmas sweater from Rita's extra fur.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about those knitting projects made from dogs' hair. Too funny. Since Rita doesn't really shed all *that* much, I could probably only knit him a beanie. :)
DeleteI never remember to brush my pugs. That might explain the hair balls my. Tuvok gets brushed a lot. He does not love it
ReplyDeleteOh, poor Tuvok. Maybe he'll learn to love it??
DeleteNice the lizard was there so Rita could get all prettied!! My Daisy loved being brushed and Cocoa likes baths!!
ReplyDeleteWow, likes baths?! Gosh, I wish Rita did!
DeleteHa ha! You're tricky.
ReplyDeleteHoney enjoys being groomed except when I'm having to wrestle knots out of her hair. And since her favorite hobby is rolling around on the ground, she gets plenty of them.
For us, the tricky part is finding a place to groom her. We can't do it on the boat because it's too big a mess. I try to find a place where no one is down wind of us because no matter how hard I try to nab the fuzzies in a bag, there are always a few escapes.
Honey and her knots reminds me of the knots my sis and I would get in our hair when we were little. It was never any fun when Mom would try to comb them out, so I can empathize with Honey! (My sis's knots were so bad, they had names - Gus & Sam.)
DeleteWay to sneak in the brushing during Rita's favorite walks!! BOL
ReplyDeleteWe're sneaky! And she never even asked "Does this video make my butt look big??"
Deletehahaha I love it how you take it on walks and catch her when she least expects it.
ReplyDeleteWe're sneaky that way. :)
Deletehello pooch smooches its dennis the vizsla dog hay my sister the beautiful trixie yoozed to drop all kinds of furs like that wen she wuz gitting brushd!!! she mostly liked it eksept wen she had tangels then she wood sort of giv dada that luk!!! i am shoor yoo no the luk i meen!!! ha ha ok bye
ReplyDeleteYes, we know that look well here!
DeleteA win for everyone!
ReplyDeleteWin-win-win-win! How often does that happen??
DeleteFaolan hates to be brushed. This is a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteYou can use our idea. It will only cost you a 25c royalty. :)
DeleteI have to groom Sam in segmented stages too (one side tonight, the other in the morning so he doesn't look like a lopsided lamb). He's good natured about it but I know it's not his favorite. He definitely prefers brushing over baths any day though. ;)
ReplyDeleteTrue - Rita would rather be brushed than face the dreaded bath tub any day!!
DeleteSo funny! You'll have to keep the lizards around if you can :D Toby tolerates being brushed but he doesn't seem to love it. I don't get it either.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should get her a pet lizard?? :)
DeleteThat's a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteIt looked like he might be getting some good scratching in there at the same time!
ReplyDeleteSampson LOVEs to be brushed, he will just lie right next to you and let you brush him. Delilah doesn't mind it, but I don't think she loves it the way he does.
