Monday Mischief: Custom Bedding! And a Storage Problem Solved!

The hubs and I have been on the search for a good night's sleep (defined as not waking up in pain. Is that too much to ask?) for, like, years now. A while back we realized we wanted different things, so went to two twins in our king frame. Because of our search, we have a couple of spare twin bed toppers around the house, and since we had (yet another) new bed coming, I needed to do some rearranging.

I asked the hubs to toss one of the toppers in the spare room until I could rearrange some stuff stored under that bed and store the topper under there too. That night we went to bed and Rita trotted off to the spare room where she sometimes sleeps up on the guest bed. We heard what sounded either like distant fireworks (my guess, since we live within hearing distance of SeaWorld's fireworks and it was a 3-day weekend for MLK Jr. Day) OR Rita rearranging the blanket we keep on top of the guest bed for when she sleeps in there (the hub's guess, since Rita likes a cozy nest). We were both wrong.

The next morning I found this:
Someone had a good time.
Yep, my normally very good girl had gotten up to some mischief! (Finally!) I just laughed.

The next night we heard the same sound, so I went in there to see her in the act of creating her custom bedding (or her "art project" as we have also since started calling it), to find this:

She's kinda got it just how she wants it!
Custom fit!

So... that solved that storage problem.

She loves the thing more than the real dog bed we have in our room for her. So I moved her "art project" back into our room, and for now I'm just going to throw an old flannel sheet over it. I hate to throw it out after she's worked so hard to get it just so! She loves the thing!

It's super unattractive, but I just don't have the heart to throw it out.

What about you? Do you put up with unattractive stuff in your house for your pets' sake?

    1. Luckily she barely eats real food, so I knew she wouldn't eat the bits!

  5. Kilo loves a white shag carpet in my house, and by "love" I mean that's his favourite spot to roll around on, relieve himself on and shed daily on. I'm constantly cleaning it.

    1. And you wouldn't dream of pitching it, would you? The things we do for our pups!

  6. oh yes. The two overflowing toy boxes for one. Not that the toys are in the box often.
The worst is the baby gates that became necessary after age 12 when Cole went into his second adolescence and chewed up my dance shoes.

    1. Ugh on starting to chew things up at age 12. Hope rita isn't going to get progressively worse with this stuff! And yes... There does seem to be some mischief with the hop lately!

  7. I've been told that my house is perfect for a dog, which I take to mean that most everything in it is unattractive. That's okay - Blueberry likes it and her comfort, since she does live there, is my first thought. :)

    1. Yeah, since rita lives here, I guess she should get some "say" on how the house looks. :) Ans luckily we rarely have visitors outside of family and close friends! :)

  8. I do try to buy "pretty" dog things. His crate isn't all that attractive (I keep meaning to get a cover for it) but otherwise, most of his stuff is pretty cute!

    1. Have you seen those fancy-schmancy crates that look like end tables and whatnot? They really do have some nice looking dog stuff now,

  9. Looks like the work of my little sis Bailie! As long as no real bad harm was done, why not?

  11. That's too cute! I keep piles of blankets on the loveseat and the spare room bed because the kitty loves to make nests. He also shoved the quilts off of the shelves in the closet because he decided those should be napping cubbies for him, so my quilts are all folded on a chair in the bedroom instead of stored neatly in the closet. Sigh.

    1. That's s o funny that he made his own napping cubbies. Smart! Yeah, we have spare blankies tossed on top of things too!

  12. That is so funny!!!

We have a bunch of really ugly cat trees at our place but the cats love them!

  13. Ha ha ha! This reminds me of the time a couple of years ago when we got a new king-sized mattress at the end of November. We moved the old mattress off the bed and onto the floor to get the new one on and start rearranging things. No sooner did we get the sheet on the new mattress then we looked down and discovered that our old mattress had become our new dog bed! We left it in there for them for about a month!

  16. Definitely! I may have a nice vintage wardrobe but my house isn't very well decorated. We have torn old t shirts on dog beds because they like them. A chewed dining room table leg and a bit of chewed wall courtesy of Bob and quite a number of other things.

    1. Yep, we've got the doggie blankets everywhere too, and the toy box (although a lot of the toys aren't IN the box), and the multiple dog beds now! Easy to guess when a loved dog lives there, isn't it Stella Rose?

  18. I love how she customized it, and how you won't throw it out. We have many dog beds around the house and I don't really love them all, and sometimes trip over them, but they stay!
My hubby and I have been through many mattresses too. We finally got an adjustable bed and we're both happy with it! It makes me feel old, but you know, whatever works!

    1. I don't know if you'll see this reply, but by adjustable do you mean raise/lower the feet/head, or like a sleepnumber where you can adjust the firmness? Cuz that's also what we got - the adjustable feet/head thing, and with a latex mattress. We are still breaking it in (guy said to give it a month) but I think it might end up working out!

  19. Please don't throw it out! That's her masterpiece. She's worked hard on this. You've got the right idea, cover it and let her enjoy it!

    1. She does love it so.... So tempting to throw it out (especially since we have guests coming to stay with us...) but for now it's going to stay! Just don't have the heart to pitch it.

  20. Oh yeah. When Sampson was recovering from ACL surgery he practically shredded a blanket getting his bed 'just right.' I kept the blanket and throw it over the bed to protect the other bedding. You get used to it. LOL

    1. Isn't it funny how they have to get their nest all 'cozy'. Luckily she never shredded it while it was in use on the bed!
