Less Wordy Wed: Whatcha Waitin' For?

Can you guess what Rita is waiting for?
Sitting and waiting, about 20 min before the expected arrival.

About 5 minutes before arrival, she's still at the door waiting:
"Momma, I'm sure I heard something..."
One minute before arrival:
"I KNOW I heard something!"
 ARRIVAL!
"He's here! He's here!"

"Open the door, woman!"
So, did you guess that REGGIE was what Rita was waiting for? (Not that you can even tell that that's Reg... Sorry about the terrible blurriness of this photo, but this is honestly how they look for the first 15 minutes or so.)
"HE'S HERE!"
After a while, they settle down to something more like this:
"You're not really tired, are you, Rita?"
Until this happens:
"No! I was faking!"
And then, eventually, they look like this:
"Okay, maybe I'm a little tired. Bring me a snack!"
 And this:
"That was SO fun!"

So, what are YOU waiting for if you haven't already entered my giveaway to win a signed paperback copy of Rescue Me, Maybe?? Go on - enter! Even if you've already read it, it makes a great Christmas present for any dog-lovers in your life!

How do your pets do with waiting?

Rita knew Reg was coming over, but he was late, so she was getting antsy! Luckily for us, she's a pretty mellow girl, so "antsy" for her = sitting quietly at the front door!

Thanks to Blogpaws for hosting Wordless Wednesday!

  1. That's so cute, waiting at the door like that. Maggie mostly just hangs in her bed all the time, Jack will pace if he's waiting for something - like his morning walk.

    1. Oh, sweet Maggie. Rita lays there and stares at us if she's waiting for her walk, but she's mostly very patient!

  2. So cute! Love it! At first I thought Rita must be waiting for her daddy. Then I was going to leave a snarky comment about how she was waiting for Jeffie. Dog-gone it, I should have thought of the adorable Reggie :-)

  3. BOL Oh Rita, you know when that Reggie is coming and you just can't contain yourself! But you do have tons of fun together! Happy WW

    1. Yes, she loves it when he comes over. It also helps that my sis is Rita's 3rd fave person in the world, so she's get excited when her auntie comes over too!

  4. Harley is a door watcher also. From the pics, it looks like there was nothing but good times had by all.

  7. How did Rita know her friend was coming over? Did you tell her?

    1. Good question - we have to put up the Puppy Suicide Prevention fencing when Reg comes over cuz he flings himself off the edge of our patio - and it's a long drop to the ground below. Fine for Rita, but not so good for a short-legged, long-backed boy like Reg. I had put the fence up cuz they were supposed to be there at 9:30, but then they were late. Anyway, once the fence goes up, she knows!

  8. So surprised it was a dog! I get like that when its time for dad to get home. I sit in the backyard watching the fence and listening for his truck. Love Dolly

    1. When Daddy comes home, she waits by the door into the house from the garage. Daddy doesn't come in the front door.

  9. We have a similar scene here (only much more animated) when Reg knows Rita is coming. In fact, we try not to say her name too early. We now have code names for her, which I am sure he will pick up on eventually.

    1. Oh, I'll have to find out what those code names are!

    1. Yeah, it's kind of funny. At first I thought she was trying to tell me she wanted to go for a walk, but then I realized she knew Reg was coming, and she was listening for him!

  11. It's remarkable how dogs seem to know the future. Waiting is always so long in dog minutes.

Oh, and pick me, pick me.

    1. Yes, in the immortal words of Tom Petty, "the waiting is the hardest part" - when you're a dog.

Hopefully your number will come up!

    1. I wonder what Rita does when we are both gone, because sometimes I find her laying in the hall by the door from the garage. I think she might lay there the whole time... Need to get one of those 'nanny-cam' type things hooked up and find out!

  14. LOL! I thought it was going to be the pizza man. My first Cardigan Dylan would wait as long as it took for the pizza guy to get there. He never wavered in his resolve. Just stayed by the door....waiting and drooling.......

    1. Oh, she barks at the pizza guy! She doesn't understand until he's gone that's he's brought something wonderful! So funny about Dylan. How did he know?? Did he know the word "pizza"? If so, that's my kinda dog!

  15. Dylan definitely knew the word pizza and the connection to hearing it spoken while on the phone. It got to the point where we would say "Should we order a P?" so he wouldn't catch on. That only lasted a couple of times! It got to the point if he saw us talk on the phone and then write a check, he would go wait by the door. He was a smart little bugger and he LOVED his pizza!

  16. Isn't it great how they learn the signals of what is going on. My pugs know that on Monday, if I change into my tennis shoes - someone is going to training class!

  20. Oh, she's such a good patient girl! I had guessed she was waiting for Dad or the mailman with a package....Reggie was way better (sorry, Dad)!
Our dogs are patient waiting for Dad to come home, lying on the back of the couch watching out the window, until they see the truck in the driveway, then they go nuts!

  21. I knew. And I love how they love each other. That must make both you and your sister very happy!

  22. Aren't they so lucky to have a playdate! Wonderful photos too. BTW I won't be entering because I already have Rescue Me, Maybe on kindle and it is a great read - so good luck to all the entrants!
