Monday Mischief: Chicken Treats?

You might recall (although, really, I'd be surprised if you did!) that I mentioned ages ago that there's a house in our 'hood that puts Trader Joe's molasses treats out for passing pups, along with a fresh bowl of water.
Rita munches a treat (note all the crumbs around her; slob)
We sometimes pass this house on our long Sunday walks, and Rita always enjoys it when we stop so she can munch on a treat.

Well, today was no exception. We stopped by, and she enjoyed a shoe-shaped treat, and then we went on our way.

As we passed the rest of their yard, we stopped to admire their fabulous garden and fruit trees.

And then I noticed there were about 5 or 6 hens running around the yard.

Of course, Rita was way ahead of me in noticing.
Pretty sure Rita thought they were part of the "treats left out for pups"-welcome package.

Luckily their mighty Chihuahua chased us off before Rita could take a stab at sampling one of those treats.

Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  1. Love that they leave out treats and water! We might have to start doing that too (I think the neighborhood cats would steal it all though!)

  3. LOL I did remember about those treats. Such a nice thing for them to do. Somehow I don't think they were offering up their hens, Rita :-)

  5. Ha ha ha! Flattery would have had the same conclusion that Rita did, but I'm not so sure the Chihuahua would have scared her off...

  10. O hai! Chickens! Looks like my yard! Don't let Rita pull a Chewy. He got a head start on plucking one of our hens.

  13. BOL oh my gosh, I was nervous about how this story was going to end! Hens can be pretty tempting, can't they?! ;) I love the idea of leaving treats and water outside for neighborhood dogs - I've seen it done with tennis balls as well! So cute :)

  14. What a kind gesture for the neighbor to leave snacks for you and others while on a walk.

  17. Oh wow, that is so nice! Can I move into your neighborhood too? Isis would love some of those treats. Better keep the chickens away from her too, though, that would be a dream snack for her!

  19. Trader Joes has such tasty cookies! My Gramma always has a box of them at her house! Enjoy, Rita, and try to take as many as you can as one is never enough!

  20. Our pack would by-pass the treats for the hens. Food is good, but if it moves, it must be chased and a bonus is the noise they make!

  21. It sounds like those chickens have a guard, for obvious reasons! :)
