See Beautiful; Eat (?) Beautiful

Today we are participating in the {This Moment} See Beautiful blog hop hosted by Sugar the Golden Retriever every 2nd Friday of the month.

Last time, I posted "see and hear beautiful," so this time I thought I'd try both see and eat beautiful.

See Beautiful
We have a hawk that hangs out in our neighbor's huge eucalyptus tree.

Sometimes we see him (I'm guessing here, of course) with his girlfriend, which is really fun. But the other day, I had a real treat and got to see him, his girlfriend, and either their full-grown offspring, or another suitor for the girlfriend's hand. Er, talons. Pretty darn cool. Unfortunately, my camera skills don't do them justice.

In other See Beautiful moments, we finally got some rain here in San Diego recently. I know most of the country is freezing and sick of winter, but we've had a ridiculously warm and dry summer winter so far. It was lovely enough just to have the rain, but the rainbow was an added bonus.

Eat Beautiful
We belong to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and pick up a box of organic fruit and veggies every other week. Sometimes there are things in there I'd never buy on my own. Like this dragon fruit we got a couple of weeks ago:

A bit funny looking on the outside, but it's true beauty (to me anyway) is on the inside.
"No thank you, Momma."

Can you believe that color?! And it just happened to match what I was wearing that morning.
Never thought I'd take a selfie with a dragon fruit.

No, I did not intentionally match my T-shirt/shorts to our breakfast fruit. It was just a happy coincidence.

Anyway, it's a good thing this fruit is so beautiful, because that's kinda all it has going for it. The white flesh inside is kinda kiwi-like in texture, but it's extremely bland. (We ended up putting the 2nd one into a smoothie.)

Valentine Beautiful
Of course, whenever I'm in the mood to see a little somethin' beautiful, all I have to do is look at my girl Rita. See Cute

Hope you are all having a lovely Valentine's Day (even if it is a ridiculous "holiday").

I know there's lots of ugly in the world, but let's all get out there and see some beautiful!

In an especially beautiful gesture, for every item sold in the See Beautiful shop during February, a brand new children's book will be donated to the children's library at the St. Anne's Homeless Center in Ogden, Utah. (I especially like the silver cuff bracelet, and told the hubby as much since I have a bday coming up soon.)

Thanks to Sugar for hosting the {This Moment} See Beautiful blog hop!

  1. What wonderful images! Love the amazing hawks! The dragon fruit is ...well...wow! The rainbow is almost other-worldy to us as we slog through the sleet and slush. The photo of Rita is heart-warming!

  5. We did a CSA once but just couldn't consume all of it quickly enough - we really tried. Now we visit the farmer's market instead, well, in spring and summer. Happy Valentine's Day! love those hawks :)

  10. What a lovely post and thank you for clarifying what that fruit taste like. I'm sure it's not the kind of fruit for everyone.

  11. Rita's pillow ALSO matches your outfit and the dragon fruit! :)

  12. We like organic food too :) Never seen (or tasted) a dragon fruit before!! The colour certainly goes with valentine's day - which is ridiculous, but gives plenty of scope for blogging!

  14. Those hawks are a lovely sight. As I bet a bit of rain must have been too. If you'd like, I can send you a box of snow. It would definitely water your garden.

  15. Happy Valentine's Day to you! The fruit kind of matches the day too. :) I love trying new things. I used to tutor a Korean woman in English and she would bring me some of her native fruits when they were in season and she could get them. They were always really good because she knew which ones were best and told me how I should eat them. So glad you got some rain. When this snow melts we will have a lot of water. Wish I could ship you some. :) Cool hawk pictures.

  18. Hope your Valentines Day was great! That Dragon fruit is cool looking but it doesn't look real appetizing inside. I bet a smoothie really is the best use for it.

  19. Great point! There is lots of "ugly" out there in the world today but it is important to see the beautiful as well. Much love, The Scottie Mom.

  20. I never heard of a Dragon Fruit before, and you're right - what amazing colors! If only the taste matched it's vibrant appearance. :-)
