We love Maui and have been several times as it's a not-tooooo-long, non-stop flight from San Diego. And it's so relaxing there!
Here is the view from the lanai at the condo we rented. (If the view alone doesn't make you relax, doesn't the word lanai? So much more serene sounding than balcony.)
We love to go for a long walk every morning when we are there. We made some kitty friends on one walk....
...and some bird friends.
We also saw this cool carved gate on one of our walks, which I attempted to bigify so you can see there's a little dog on it. (Walking with a rooster and a snowman.... I don't know why.)
We also did a lot of beach-going and swimming while we were there. I swear, every single time I went in the water there was a turtle RIGHT THERE. It was awesome. I swam with this guy at Secret Beach (which is our new favorite Maui beach since it has a nice calm little spot to get in the water):
Yes, that dark blob is a turtle. My swimming buddy. |
As with other years that we've gone, we saw many dogs at the beach, but the hubs was bummed because none of them would come up to say hi! Until our last night, one finally came over to say hello. The hubs was a happy boy.
One night early in our trip we went down to the beach to watch the sunset, and it just kept getting better!
....and better!
....and better!
The sunsets were never as good as that first one, but I did manage to catch this cute silhouette of this guy cruising past one night... (He did NOT come say hi to us. Despite our desperate pleas. Beast.)
That's it! That's our trip in a handful of pics! Throw in some naps, some shave ice, and a cocktail on the lanai every night and you've got the sum total of our trip!
Any fun travel plans in your future?

ReplyDelete- thank you for sharing!
My mom is over traveled, having traveled all over the world as a kid, was a flight attendant for eleven years, lived in Europe for ten years. She likes to stay home. Travel for her is in the car with us going a few hours away, but only for a couple days. Sounds like you love Maui. There are so many beautiful places to relax on beaches, but Mom prefers to stay home these days.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! When we went to Maui (back in the stone age at this point), we snorkled at Turtle Town and saw lots of the critters. Boy, was the water ever FREEZING! I expected warm water in the Hawiian Islands, and was surprised how cold it was!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures and it sounds like you had a blast even though Rita was always on your mind. How dare the doggies not want to play. Even though I love all the pictures, the one with the dog silhouette is one of the best.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset shots. I love all the flowers, so much color and I bet the smell in the air is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful vacation.
ReplyDeleteSigh... you had me at Maui. Sounds (and looks) like a wonderful getaway!
ReplyDeleteBoy a getaway to anywhere sounds good to me. Sadly we currently have no pug sitter so we are stuck at home for now

Looks as beautiful as I imagine it to be. Haven't gotten there yet - but definitely plan to.
ReplyDeleteI know everyone is SUPPOSED to love Maui (I think you are considered an alien or worse if you don't) but my dream vacation is Alaska. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. All my friends go to Hawaii and I don't even get a tshirt! It looks like our kind of vacay... nature time. LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteWe're not much for traveling, but if we were going to, that looks like an awesome place to go. It looks like you had a wonderful time...other than trying to get a dog fix and striking out for a while!
ReplyDeleteIf I just go away for a weekend without the dogs I'm stalking every dog I see hoping for some attention...LOL...you should have seen me at BlogPaws!
you are one mean lady to torture us like this lol
ReplyDeleteDakotasDen
Sounds and looks like an awesome vacay!! That turtle is huge. I am a sunshine and warm weather girl and Maui sounds wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI wish we could take dogs (easily) to Hawaii! I've never been.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! They are all stunning, especially the sunset! That door has me desperately wanting to know the story!! Dog, Rooster and Snowman what an odd combination.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, especially the sunsets. The carved door is funny. The snowman made me think of Frosty the Snowman from the special when I was a kid....lol.
ReplyDeletehello pooch smooches its dennis the vizsla dog hay maui duz luk kwite pritty!!! but it also appeerz to be infested with kitties and birds and the oshun and i am kind of afrayd of all three so i think i wil stay on dry land!!! ok bye
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery. My vet said I should move to the coast to see if that gets rid of my allergies. Maybe Maui would be a nice place to go.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, this makes me miss Hawaii so much. To those of us who live in Alaska, it's kind of our secret weapon against winter, lol. Your sunset pics are gorgeous. Of course, I prefer the one with the dog trotting by (duh!). Glad you had a great trip. Cheers, woof-woof and have an awesome week.
ReplyDeleteYou captured some incredible photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trip, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHaving returned from the Big Island recently, I know all too well what a fabulous place Hawaii is first hand. Yes it's our 50th state, but there's a state of Hawaii that is hard to describe. Your photos however did convey that state. Well done and thank you for sharing. Hanging on those those beautiful sunset memories through seeing yours just makes me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really beautiful!! Maui is now on my bucket-list!! Turtles are such magnificent creatures!! They are so majestic in the ocean
ReplyDelete:) I can tell you about that carved door! I had it made in Bali for the beach house of my friend Steve. That's his house! The door is carved the same on the other side, but in reverse. It shows three of his favorite teddy animals/toys from when he was a kid. He's got a great imagination, and he created entire mythologies and adventures in his mind for these three characters. He never forgets 'em. I had so much fun working on Steve's house, getting him great custom carvings from Bali. Our pal, Sandow Birk did the drawings for the carvings, and then we had a team of amazingly talented Balinese artisans do the carving. Sandow, like Steve, is an avid surfer (and a well known painter) . . . so he had a great time in Bali!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's cool! Thanks for explaining about the snowman, dog and rooster! They're so cute, I wondered if they were characters from a book or something. Interesting they are characters from his own imagined adventures. They need their own book!
