Monday Mischief: Our Dog's a Drama Queen

This past weekend, the hubs and I went away for one night, so my sis came and dog-sat Rita for us.

After some initial barking when my sis let herself in the house, she was greeted with two kisses from Rita. (Rita is VERY stingy with kisses so getting two is a big deal.)

Once Rita got over being happy that it was her auntie who came in and not a burglar, she started waiting for Momma to come home.
Rita camped out by the garage door
For some weird reason, Rita slept in my office that night (she normally only sleeps in there during the day) rather than in her bed in our room. When my sis got up in the morning, she found Rita camped out by the front door.

She missed her momma and her pop! Of course, she didn't miss them enough to not beg for a bite of her auntie's scone.

While Rita was acting pathetic and tortured, the hubs and I were up to our own mischief . . . visiting CATS!
Of course Topi was hanging out in a box, 'cause that's what cats do, right?

The other cat we visited, Bob, was above all that. (Bob is 18 and a very handsome boy.)

Please don't tell Rita we left her home (to be tortured by her auntie) to go and visit cats. What she doesn't know won't hurt her.

When we got home (after being gone barely more than 24 hours) she made these pathetic little "it was so horrible!" noises. She's a total Drama Queen.

Does your pet ever act like a Drama Queen/King?

Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!

  1. My mom and Gramma say I'm a true diva and drama queen. I make a big fuss about the smallest things, but it is how I am. Glad poor Rita didn't have to "suffer" such terrible conditions for too long ;)

    1. Rita makes a big fuss too! But, like you said... it's just how she is. And we love her for it, just like your mom and Gramma love you, Emma!

  3. That's pretty funny! Don't worry we won't tell her about your mini-vacation with the cats.

  4. I did, in fact, torture her. Let's see--forced her to eat bites of my lunch and breakfast, rubbed her belly whether she wanted it or not, forced her to keep me company on the office couch while I read, gave her many sloppy kisses on her head, and took her for a walk. It was truly awful! Glad she survived. But seriously, poor girl. Have you ever left her at home when you were away. Sure she was like, WTH? It's the end of times!!

    1. I'm sure she does appreciate the attention (and shared food!) even if she acted pathetic. And, yes, that was the first time we ever left her at home. She usually goes to "the gulag" with Reggie. Thanks for staying with her!

  5. Your secret is safe with us. Our dogs are very dramatic about not being included. They can't understand why they wouldn't be welcome anywhere.

    1. She *could* have come along, even though there were cats, but we knew she wouldn't like sitting in traffic with us. (It was a long time to be stuck in the car!)

  6. Poor Rita! I bet she knew you were cheating on her with cats!

  8. So did you stage these photos, or was your sister "on assignment" for a blog story ;-)

Jimmy can be quite dramatic when he sees Wilson getting attention, and it is very noisy drama!

  9. Aw, poor pup! She missed the folks! Mine do the same thing. I always see faces in the window when I am coming up the walk. :-)

  10. My boys are super dramatic. Even if we are just outside with out them, they pout and howl at the door. And if one of them is out and the others are inside. OH MAN are we in for it!

    1. Oh, man - that's just cruel to only take ONE outside! :)

  15. Reg isn't really a "drama king" when we come home after being gone. He's what we call a "tiny dancer" doing all kinds of crazy gyrations cuz he's so glad to see us. And of course Rita was weirded out! I mean, "hello?", when you leave, Reggie and I are supposed to take over!

    1. I know - our girl's such a creature of habit. I thought she'd be happy at home, but I guess she's used to being with Reg at The Gulag. :)

  16. Our pups do not have the Drama "queen" or "king" thing down as well as Rita!!!! It sounds as if she was truly pining for you!!! Our dogs are Labs, and they simply love whoever they're with ;) At least that's what I tell myself - so that I don't feel guilty when I leave them!

    1. I know what you mean - we used to have a beagle, and beagles have a very philosophical attitude about just making the best of whatever situation. (Which, sadly, is likely why they are used for testing...) Anyway, she used to pretty much be happy with whoever/wherever we left her. :)

    1. LOL. Rita does like to run in there and check on me. Since I'm almost always home alone, I'm not sure what she'd do if I shut the door in her face! :)

  19. Hopefully Rita didn't smell those kitties on you! You were in enough trouble just for leaving apparently. Cricket is our little drama queen. When we give her a bath, she shakes afterwards like it was the worst experience of her whole life.
Our dogs do well when we leave them though, as long as someone shows up to feed them and wait on them they seem to be OK. :)
