My mom has a collection of teddy bears. But Rita never tries to snag the ones that aren't "hers."
My mom has one little lavender-colored, bean-filled bear that Rita is allowed to play with. It sits on a little stool in my mom's bedroom, and Rita runs to get it first thing when we go visit Grandma. It always makes us laugh when she runs to get it right away, like it's the whole reason we're there!
Although she plays with it somewhat roughly - grabbing it and shaking it like the Terrier that she (partly) is (or might be, per her DNA test) - she never chews a hole in it. (Which is a good thing, since beans would fly everywhere!)
Rita is also very brave about riding the elevator at Grandma's. It's the only time she ever has to ride in one, and although she seemed a bit nervous the first few times, she rides in it really well now.
There might be one bit of mischief when we go to Grandma's... My mom's lease says "no visiting dogs." We are taking this to mean "no overnight visits." :) Rita never stays overnight at my mom's and is only there for a few hours at a time, so I'm going to keep bringing her along until someone tells us we can't. (I'm always such a rule follower; hopefully we're not breaking the rules there!)
Do you take your pup along when you go visit friends and family? Does your pup get into any mischief there?
Thanks to Snoopy’s Dog Blog, Alfie’s Blog, and My Brown Newfies for hosting Monday Mischief!
We don't take our current dogs to visit others as often as we would like. Hailey gets into everything and Phod gets soooooo sick going. We really should.
ReplyDeleteHope you can keep visiting grandma for a long time!
Oh, that's a bummer that Phod gets sick! Rita loves to ride in the car. She loves to come along - but i think she's also perfectly happy to just stay home and sleep! :)
DeleteMy mom is a pro at feeding the dogs little scraps after dinner. And boy do they know it.
ReplyDeletelol. They always know who the biggest sucker, I mean, sweetheart is!
DeleteWe usually don't take the pugs along, not everyone enjoys visiting dogs. And we like to be able to not worry about them getting into things. But 3 is different than one BOL.

Mr Bailey, Hazel & MAbel
Oh, but they're small! 3 of them probably equals 1 of Rita. :) (But, yeah, we don't take her everywhere either. She only goes along to a few select places.)
DeleteAlways on best behaviour at grandmas house!
ReplyDeleteShe tries! :)
DeleteGrammas always let pups have something special. Visiting Gramma is a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Grammas are supposed to spoil the grand-dogs, right?!
Deletewhat a great story grandma must love you to have a toy just for you

Rita loves her grandma!
DeleteIt's been my experience that 'no dog' rules are made to keep out the rude and rowdy dogs. If dogs are polite and well behaved, they are not bothered. We've gone to a lot of places that we are not exactly invited and people even pet us and baby talk us.
ReplyDeleteRita's not *always* that well behaved.... She's been known to bark at loud noises if she's out on my mom's balcony. (oops) So we try to keep her inside and quiet. She's *mostly* a very good girl.
DeleteIt really depends who we are visiting whether the dogs come or not. Jimmy doesn't always play well with others (dogs, that is) so I take that into account. Plus I can relax more if I'm not needing to keep an eye on them. But Grandma's house is definitely one of the "Go-to's!!!"
ReplyDeleteYep, same here. Rita doesn't always play well with other dogs so she doesn't go along everywhere, but she does go to Grandma's and to some of my sisters' houses. Other places, she has to stay home - and we're all probably happier for it. :)
DeleteWe like that teddy bear.

Isn't it cute?
DeleteWe got to grandma's and a friends house, usually it is me, and gussie, Maggie gets to nervous. We are very good when we go.
ReplyDeletestella rose
Oh, that's nice that you get to go along. If Maggie gets nervous, I'm sure she prefers to just hang out at home!
DeleteHarley has always been that dog who goes everywhere, we're not rule breakers, we just do and beg forgiveness later :). I wouldn't worry about Rita, I'm sure by now she's been spotted and no ones been that interested to inquire about her presence - I mean who would - she's PAWdorable.
ReplyDeleteYes, she's definitely been spotted by the neighbors. And nobody has ratted us out so far! :)
DeleteWe rarely take our dogs when we visit people; we're talking 200 pounds of pup altogether. That could be a little overwhelming. ;-D
ReplyDelete--Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
Yeah, 200lbs of pup is probably a good amount to leave home. :) I mostly leave Rita behind, but my mom likes it when she comes along. And of course she goes along when we go to my sister's house - where Reg lives!
DeleteMr. N usually goes with me to visit people. He is very good.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if he was my pup I'd take him everywhere! He's such a perfect pup!
DeleteMy folks used to have a house on a golf course out in Palm Desert - it was Sally's favorite place and we would always take her and Tino along when we visited.
ReplyDeleteOh, nice. I bet you all loved to go out there.
DeleteLike kids, the quieter you are, the more you get to do... we take Cole almost everywhere and sometimes we're told no dogs in the store, sometimes they give him a cookie... LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteOh, nice on sometimes scoring a cookie, Cole!
Deleteoh and Rita, the fact that you go looking for your bear?? So sweet!! LEeAnna
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty sweet!
DeleteWhat happens at Grandma's stays at Grandma's, right, Rita? Like Groovy G said above, I think someone would have seen Rita by now and said something if it was a problem. When we had one and two dogs they went a lot of places with us. Then when we got up to four, they no longer did. I really miss taking them more places too.
ReplyDeletelol, yeah, taking 4 dogs (or even 3) is kind of a lot! Especially if, like at my mom's, you're not even sure they're welcome!
DeleteWhat a smart girl Rita is for knowing her toy. Honey has looked with lust at every stuffed animal she's ever seen. I'm just waiting for her to steal one from one of her fans.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rules--that's only for the bad doggies, right?
Rita's really funny about that. She loves stuffed toys, but she knows what's for her and what's not. I have several stuffed dogs that are exactly at her nose height on a shelf and she never ever even looks at them.
DeleteShe can be 'bad" every now and then, but she's MOSTLY a very good girl!
I love that she has her own bear! I have a creative interpretation of a "No Pets" sign next to a community garden that we walk past on our way to a play field. I assume it means no pets in the garden, and we're just passing through. And actually there are way worse offenders who actually let their dogs hang out while we garden... so I don't feel guilty at all. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I think that sounds like a fair interpretation!
Deletethat is great that you are a rule breaker and take Rita to visit your mom, I bet she really loves it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so NOT a rule breaker though usually! It stresses me out to break rules! But, yes, my mom likes it when I bring the pup along. We always get such a kick out of watching her run to "her" bear!
DeleteRita knows her bear and it looks like taking good care of it. I think your interpretation of the dog rule is perfect. And if someone complains, you're not "visiting" you're just "stopping by" :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, they're you go! We're just "stopping by" - and we can always pretend to be on our way out! :)
DeleteMom always encourages all my dog nieces and nephews to come visit. She says it's good for them and for me.

I think she's right! :)
DeleteThat's so adorable how Rita goes and finds "her" bear. I've been known to break a few "no pets" rules before and usually people are pretty cool about it unless your dog is causing some trouble.
ReplyDeleteHopefully she won't ever cause any trouble! :)
DeleteAwe Rita has her little routine when she visits grandma. :)
ReplyDeleteRita is a lover of routines! Just like her momma!
DeleteSuch a cute photo! When my mom was alive my pups loved to visit her. No mischief - too busy loving on my mama :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, that's sweet.
DeleteDelilah absolutely cannot go to someone else's home, she would eat everything in sight. But since my mom lives downstairs, she can visit with her. She usually goes in, scopes the food situation out, cleaning up any little crumbs mom might have dropped, pulls out laundry from the basket and rolls in it, then goes home. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, that's nice that she stops by to hoover up your mom's crumbs. :)
DeleteYou asked if we lived in Toronto. We actually live near Ottawa (just north of the city in Quebec). I grew up in Southern Ontario, about 2 hours from London.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to answer! :)
