Less Wordy Wednesday: Yard-Saling Dogs

This weekend my sis and I helped our other sis with her yard sale. No, we weren't selling dogs, but many cute pups stopped by to shop! They all seemed to be shopping for the same thing!

This is Lady. She didn't get out the car. Just did a drive-by to see if we had cookies.

This is Lady's friend, Valentine. She didn't get out of the car either. She is a wise, old girl.

We had to hold on to these 2 while their dad shopped. My sis has a VERY narrow driveway (where everything was laid out), and these are 2 VERY big dogs!
This is Charley. She was unimpressed with her dad's purchases.
These 2 were such cute little fluff balls! But they seemed a bit above the whole "pawing through someone else's stuff" thing.
And here's my sis. NO, she's NOT a dog, but with how she was dressed, I had to include her photo too! (In case you can't see it, her hat says "dogs rule" and her sweatshirt says "in dog years, I'm dead".)

Whether we are holding the sale ourselves, or out shopping the garage/yard sales, we always see lots of dogs when we yard-sale. (Yes, "yard-sale" can be a verb!)

Do you like to yard-sale?

  1. Mom used to go occasionally. Now she kind of scans the items as we walk by on walks and decided if there might be anything useful for the blog. She got a great old fashioned desk for me last year for almost nothing!

    1. That's awesome! Love it when you find great furniture for cheap at a yardsale.

  2. Yard sales are very fun! Hope the dogs all had fun and spent lots of their human's green papers.

  4. I remember yard sales when Doodle Dad was in the military. Come Spring when everyone was getting ready to rotate assignment locations, it was great fun.

    1. We used to go to lots of them in Bermuda too - whenever someone was leaving the island. But there garages are very rare, and it rains so much no one sets the stuff out in the yard. You go in the house to shop - so they call them "house sales".

  12. I don't do yard sales but I love thrift shops where someone else has done the work of getting so many intriguing one-of-a-kind items all lined us for my heated and air-conditioned comfort. Yes, I am a lazy, comfort loving little flower and my dogs are too.

    1. Very smart! I don't usually do them either, but it's fun to go w/ my sisters a couple of times/year. My one sis goes all the time, and she has great luck, always finding good stuff. Me, I don't find anything but books. And I don't need more books!

  13. My neighborhood does twice yearly yard sales but being such a child-centric bedroom community 90% of the stuff is toys, baby clothes, etc. Plus I have enough of my own junk, I really should not buy other people's junk ;-) LOL!

  16. I saw a car today with two stickers on the back: Love my St. Bernard & Love my Golden Retriever. What are the odds someone else would have that combo of breeds? I think it just had to be our shopper, Charlie's dad!

  17. It sounds as if all yard sales should have cookies available :)

  19. OMG, I HATE yard sales. Would "loathe" be too dramatic? I never thought of Yard Sales as a dog-friendly activity.

  20. Community garage sale events can be an easy way to socialize younger dogs. I used to take Haley into town during community sales just to stroll along the sidewalks. She got to meet lots of people, kids and other dogs and the nice thing is, people (and kids) are more interested in shopping the sales, so they'll still greet or say hi to the dogs, but not in an overwhelming way.

I still take Haley sometimes and might even stop and buy a few things if the homeowners are okay with me bringing a dog onto their property. If someone offered Haley a treat, that would make me super motivated to buy something at their sale. That's a good sales strategy! :)

  21. That sounds like a lot of fun, of course I too would abandon the sale to congregate with the dogs. :-)

    1. Yeah - same with at parties. I'd usually rather hang w/ the pups. :)

  22. I don't yard sale on a regular basis, but our town has two town-wide yard sales every year, and those are fun to go to, because there are so many to visit (and we've participated in it at times too). Seeing all the dogs must have been fun, but clearly you needed to have some cookies for sale! :)

    1. We always see tons of dogs when we sale. Maybe it's because the weather is nice and mild here, so good for bringing the pups along.
