Less-Wordy Wednesday: Sporting Dogs

Usually sporting dogs are the hunting breeds... but not at our house.

Oh, Rita does like to hunt a squirrel or dead gopher every now and then, but she's more of a Pawdres ball girl:
"SD... Does that stand for Super Dog?"

"Mmmm, tasty..."
And then we have Reggie, who's a huge fan (definitely short for "fanatic" in his case) of any televised sports. We found out this weekend while he was staying with us that he's a huge hockey fan!

He's supposed to be sitting about 6 feet back from that spot, on his designated blankie, but he just HAD to be closer to the action!

In Other News...
You might remember that I shared that my new novel HOUSE TRAINED was supposed to come out this November. Well, I found out the other day that Lake Union, my publisher, has moved the release date forward to October 20th! So the book will be out a few weeks earlier than planned. Whoohoo!

I can't wait to see what the cover will look like, and you know I'll share it as soon as possible!

Are your dogs like Reg and like to watch sports on TV, or are they more like Rita and would rather play ball!

  1. It must be fun to sink your teeth into the leather on a baseball.

    1. Actually it was a littel soft ball, not a real baseball. She had a good time nibbling on it!

  2. Shiner is with Rita all the way! Sometimes, I wonder if she even knows the TV even exists. I've never seen her watch TV... ever.

    1. Rita likes to watch TV if there are animals on - especially birds. But she doesn't watch sports!

    1. Yes, we're big sports fans here. Kinda funny when Reg wants to watch the game with you!

  6. Jimmy is CRAZY about the TV. He's actually a danger to himself as he will charge across the room, barreling through anything in his way. Sports don't interest him, though. It's all about the animals.....real or cartoon! Wilson prefers to be on neighborhood watch out the upstairs window. He will stare out there for HOURS!

    1. Rita will also watch real and cartoon animals. But she doesn't come barreling over (thank heaven!).

  7. Sounds like Taryn's Jimmy and our little fanatic Reggie could be brothers. Reg is perhaps a little crazier, since he charges and barks at the TV over athletes, animals, anyone running, small children, and even bugs. And yes, this includes cartoons. Apparently Rita is a good influence since his hockey watching at your place seems on the mellow side.

    1. Yep... Reg is pretty crazy! Even if there's just the slightest snippet of a dog or a horse or something on a TV show or commercial, he'd come running to watch (and pace and whine!). Nutty boy.

  8. Bailey is the TV watcher at our house, but he prefers action shows to sports! And anything with animals gets him barking!

  10. Ha ha, Cricket and Sheba prefer to play ball, and Luke prefers to watch his sports on TV (hockey and basketball are his favorites)! Is this some kind of stereotypical male/female thing? :)
That's exciting news about your book!

    1. That's so funny that Luke likes to watch hockey and basketball! I'm not sure which sport is Reg's favorite. Possibly football.

  11. We don't watch much sports on TV around here, not so interested. We aren't ball dogs either. Sports for us are sniffing sports, but lots of dogs are into ball sports. Katie was always a big soccer fan until she got too old to play.

    1. Rita's not a huge ball fan, but she does enjoy a little game. She'd never make it in the big leagues though. Not enough commitment! And her catching skills are the pits!

  15. Hunting and Hunting Dogs are big time news where we live, we evens have had Toby Keith and others come to our little village to hunts....so pugs don't really make such a great impression around heres.

  16. I don't think that ball would last long at our house! No tv here so ball playing is where it is at (and cat chasing and barking at birds, etc) Great news about your book!

  17. Honey only likes to watch dog sports on tv (she's been known to raptly watch agility runs). But that doesn't stop my husband from shouting "Let's go, Mets!" every time she misses catching a ball he's just thrown. :)

  18. The boys love to chase squirrels! Congratulations on the new book release date!

  19. All of mine would rather lay on the rug and watch TV. Fantastic about your book!!!

  20. Oh congrats on the book! That is so exciting, I cannot wait to read it.

No, my dogs do not watch TV although sometimes when a doorbell rings or a dog barks on TV we have a little bit of barking take place.
