When You Ask the Universe For Something, Be Specific

A couple of years ago, I saw a turquoise gnome in someone's front yard. I know you're not supposed to covet your neighbor's goods... but, damn, I coveted that gnome in my heart...

Mainly because I'm obsessed with the color turquoise, as this photo demonstrates...

If someone wanted to sell me the London Bridge, all they'd have to do is paint it turquoise and I'd be in. (Did you know the London Bridge is in Lake Havasu, AZ?)

Anyway, I searched and searched online, but couldn't find one. So I asked my sister, who loves to go garage-saling, to keep her eyes peeled - after all, you never know what you might find at a yard sale.

Shortly after that, I was with my sisters shopping and we went into a store that was a mix of odds and ends. I was hot, so went outside to sit in the shade.

A few minutes later, here come my sisters - all giggling - and the yard-saling sis says she's found me my turquoise gnome!

Only he was a mere inch tall.

Isn't that nutty? I asked her to find me a turquoise gnome, and within like 2 weeks - she found one! And it was, technically, exactly what I'd asked for. (He was also missing an ear...)

This was an important lesson in being very specific about what you ask the universe for!

Fast-forward to a few weeks ago... I was on terminal-hold with the bank, and trying to think of something mindless to do on my computer while I waited. From some bizarre corner of my brain, the idea to search for a turquoise gnome popped up.. make that, a proper yard-sized turquoise gnome complete with two ears.

Off to eBay I went, where - cue the heavenly choir of angels: "Ahhhhhhhhh" - there he was!!

And now he's mine! I love him so!

Rita loves him too...

Rita has also taken this lesson to heart.
(Note the word on the sign above Rita...)

  1. Turquoise is my favorite color too! Most of my clothes tend that way, as does my jewelry, coffee mug, bedspread....I actually have to consciously NOT pick the stuff in turquoise!

That gnome is really cute. You can find most of your (material) wishes on the internet!

    1. I have a lot of turquoise clothes too (and raspberry). But I try to mix it up a bit... cuz once I was shopping in a turquoise top and buying 2 more turquoise tops and the salesperson commented on it... and I kinda realized I had a problem... :)

  3. That gnome is so cute and I'm glad you found it. I think Booker T would probably wish for a never ending treat supply - he's so food motivated it isn't funny. I'm not sure what Cassius would wish for and I fear it might scare me :)

    1. I must admit, that was at a place we rented. I need to start searching for those too! (The set was 4 different colors - and of course everyone knew the turquoise one would be mine... Need to find a set of ALL turquoise.)

    1. Poor, poor Blueberry. See.... she wasn't specific enough. She wished for a dish of hamburger patties, and it appeared. She should have wished to EAT a plate of hamburger patties.

  6. Back in Ithaca, I used to see "fairy houses" in people's front yards. They were tiny houses under trees that would be just the right size for your first turquoise gnome.

    1. Yeah, I actually keep him in this little planter-type thingy I have that's full of succulents, and somebody said it looks like Pandora (from Avatar... and, well, it did before some of the succulents died off and I replaced them...). Anyway, so he's got his little Pandora that he lives in. He's happy there.

  8. That is a beautiful color. I can't even imagine what either Boys would wish for, but if I had to, I think Jax would want to have the ability to climb a tree after the squirrels and Harley would love a good nights sleep without Jaxson bothering him.

  11. Both versions are adorably cute. P.S. LOVE the toes, too. Turquoise is one of my favorite toe polish colors. So happy and cheerful and really goes well with somewhat tanned feet. 😇

  12. Wishes are good. It's best to say them aloud.

I'm sure your sister loved looking for you too. I had a friend who loved the movie Office Space. (I don't get it, but . . .) One day I found a red Swingline Stapler, thought of him and just HAD to buy it. I giggled for days until I could give it to him.

    1. Turquoise is awesome!

Yes, SD is quite expensive... (actually, it seems like everything is expensive here. Used to compare my vet bills w/ my mom's in AZ and they were WAY bigger) but we love it here. Shoot me an email if you have specific questions and I'd be happy to try to answer them.

  14. Oh my gosh, I have a friend who is so into turquoise too. Her house is filled with it! It does make her easy to shop for, because it's everywhere, isn't it? Really, who woulda thunk they'd make a turquoise gnome? LOL

  15. Since we were just talking about "This Is Spinal Tap" on Facebook, all I could think of when you were presented with the tiny gnome was the 18-inch "Stonehenge"

  18. That's funny, it is true, you must be specific with the Universe, because she can sometimes have a twisted sense of humor...

Sampson of course wants lovies, while Delilah wants food. They are such polar opposites.

I'm glad you found your Gnome!
