Shepherds Keeping Watch

Since we have our own little shepherd (mix), I wanted to do a shepherd-themed card this year, and this is what I came up with:
Shepherds Keeping Watch...
These were another of our forced crafting sessions, where my sisters and I made our own print blocks using "Speedball Speedy Carve" blocks. The blocks were easy to work with - you just draw on them, then carve away the parts you don't want to show using special tools.

I made the scene from 5 different "blocks." For the "Bethlehem" block, we coated it in paint and pressed the cards onto it. For the animals, I simply stamped them on the cards using an ink pad.

Here are some of the other block prints that my sisters made. My one sis made these first three and used them to make gift tags.

My other sis made these cute houses and paired them with some tree stamps and a water-colored background for her cards. Really cute!

It was a lot of fun. But I definitely need more practice! It would be fun to make your own wrapping paper using plain brown paper and a homemade stamp. Maybe next year!

See you in the new year!

  3. These are so cool! I am very impressed. I have always wanted to try block printing - though I have a bad habit of buying craft supplies and then never following through!

  10. I love stamping. But you're right. It does take a lot of practice! Mine tend to be wobbly at the edges. I'm an endless fidgeter, and I can't hold still even while stamping!
